The husband and I went to kalish for lunch today and were blown away. The friendly greeting, service, and food were amazing. I had an avacado crunch burger, husband had the adz burger and we also split the spicy clucker crisp. For desert we had a caffeine chocolate chip cookie and an apple crisp type thing. Everything tasted amazing. This is our new favorite place. We've been vegan 6 years and hadn't found a restaurant that really captured that perfect burger and fries craving that everyone gets, until now. I recommend kalish to veg heads and omnis alike.
We can't wait to go back.
One of the best spots in Chicago. I’ve never had a bad meal there! When it’s warmer they are super accommodating for larger groups to sit outside, BYOB and chow down on some amazing vegan food! Highly recommend both their Sunday brunch and almost anything off their regular menu!
Delicious food!! The casual atmosphere and quick service compare to a 'fast food' but the healthy menu is off the charts! Vegan and GF options! Plus, my 6 year old was completely unhappy with his choice and the wonderful owner made him something he enjoyed at no charge. Hoping they will eventually have vegan and GF desserts as well, I'm always looking! Will go back again and again!
There's a lot of vegan diner style restaurants in Chicago but there's something a little different about Kalish. The clucks are so moist and well breaded you have to double take and make sure it's not real chicken. There usual menu is extensive and unique. Their brunch is absolutely delicious!
Last time we were in I mentioned getting "that weird looking cookie" sometime at the checkout. As we sat down, a man who I assume was the owner, came over and brought us the cookie for free while we were waiting for our food. It was the coffee chocolate chip flat cookie and was so good! Little things like that make this such an outstanding establishment for vegans in Chicago!
Never dissapointed. Already tried almost everything what is on menu :) yummy! amazing ice cream! friendly staff. reasonable prices. bright point on Uptown's map! :)
So yummy! I had a few different things and I was so impressed with them all. The Avocado Crisp Burger and Clucker Crisps were so good that I didn't even miss the meat! As someone who's new to the vegetarian world that is definitely a BIG deal. It was so filling that I didn't even have room for the desert that I ordered. So I saved the Apple Turnover for breakfast the next day and it was AMAZING!
My wife and I have eaten here multiple times and we have never been let down. The staff has always been friendly. As for the price, I look at things differently than most I think. When it comes to vegan restaurants, I don't mind paying for what I get. I believe in supporting these places. The food is really amazing comfort foot. Most or all of it is made in house. I read some other reviews and I think everyone has an opinion. It I think to be able to sincerely write a review about a restaurant, it needs to visited at least twice to make an accurate judgement. I am so happy that Kalish opened in the neighborhood, it was highly needed. Thank you! Also go try Longacre next door !!!!!!
Absolutely amazing experience.
Excellent food. Wonderful staff and the owners are fantastic.
I love this place !
Eat here and be happy !!!
I've had the chicken and waffles a couple of times now, they are amazing. My favorite amongst the vegan chicken and waffle offerings from various restaurants. I'm writing this review because I'm sitting here thinking about wanting their chicken and waffles and I'm nowhere near the city. Instead I'm trolling the photos of their delicious food and treats. Soon ... soon.
BEST vegan burger I’ve had!! The quesadilla was delicious too. And they have such a lovely assortment of pastries and cakes from Pie, Pie My Darling! If you’re vegan this is a must visit.

We ended up here solely because we wanted Pie Pie My Darling cake, and decided to order dinner too. We had the greatest experience and will surely be regulars, despite not living near here. Every staff member was super friendly and welcoming and they took time to help us navigate the menu. The food was delicious. The desserts were divine. Oh, and the decor is quite impressive too! There is even a cute sidewalk dining patio. I wish they sold iced tea, but everything was excellent!
I finally got a chance to come to Kal'ish earlier this week for lunch. I had the fried fish sandwich and the cherry dessert and my partner had the fried chicken sandwich w the banana pudding. Sooooo freaking good! The fish sandwich was perfectly fried and very moist and accompanied with yummy veggies and a house made tartar sauce. The sandwich was perfect, but the tartar sauce did not have much taste to it, in my opinion. Both sandwiches came with a choice of side we both got the salad which had cheese, black beans, tomatos, cucumbers and homemade balsamic.
The menu here at Kal'ish is extensive and I look forward to going back to trying more items!
It's difficult to say which offering is more incredibly delicious.
We got there late this time. Ordered takeout and brought it home.
The "Vegan vegan" sandwich is quite large and we got it with a salad - you need to know this side salad is as large as what other places sell as a main course, and it's more than just some mixed greens. See photos below.
We got the chocolate cupcake with a cream filling. Moist. Perfect. This alone is worth traveling to Chicago. Seriously. Book a flight.
Easily as good as the cupcake is our 2nd dessert: the "pop tart"
Hands down the BEST vegan place I’ve tasted in Chicago! My kids are picky eaters and even they ate everything. Please try the grill cheese. You won’t even know it’s not actual cheese. Very creamy and smooth.
The best place for plant-based vegan food hands down.! My favorite is the SmokeHouse Burger it is truly amazing and oh so flavorful, the quesadillas with beans and rice is very tasty, macaroni and cheese is delicious, the tuna melt is out of this world, and all the Cakes and Pastries are so so unbelievably wonderful....🍰🍨🍔🥞🥦🥑🍓🍊🍅
We sat in the sidewalk patio. The food was so delicious. The veggie burger was one of the best I’ve had. I loved the nachos. The tacos were amazing, and also the Reuben sandwich.
The food was amazing. I had the burrito and my wife had the bad az burger. The sweet potato fries were also amazing. I like the fact that the place had spoons and plates made from corn / plant matter . The place is tiny .parking ( paid / free ) is availble in the surrounding area easily. Their coffee was really bad- pretty watery .
This place is amazing! I came with my sister, just off of a plane and this was one of the places on my list to eat while we're here and I am not disappointed. She isn't vegan and she loved her G Burger with fries and I had the chicken sandwich (look out Chic-Fil-A). We also shared, but did not finish our nachos. Nice vibe to the place, modern diner with better music. And a take away stand for quick grab and go's.
Great food. best vegan chicken in the city, I only wish they had a good BBQ sauce. Dessert case is surprisingly tasty too. Try their twist on the rice crispies treat.
Super friendly, creative food menu, awesome sauces & delicious food! The desserts were amazing too...will be bringing some home. BYOB a plus. Maybe our new fav vegan spot in CHI?
I'm visiting Chicago for one night on a business trip and I made sure to make it to Kal'ish for my one dinner out! It's so delicious, filling, and the service was amazing and quick. Love that I can get a vegan breakfast all day!
