My favorite sandwich / lunch place downtown. The focaccia sub is the absolute best. Real, fresh cottage fries. Eclectic, nostalgic decor. Looks like a dive from the outside, but go in - you won't be disappointed. Family run, friendly staff. Absolutely unique in the South Loop. Using the dining area on the second floor up the rickety stairs is an absolute trip. Great, heavy, heavy food - as one of my friends said "if you order the vegetable lasagna, make sure you say "no meat sauce"".
Wonderful, cozy, old school place with friendly service and fantastic Italian sandwiches. Highly recommended!
Classic Italian old style tavern with authentic touch. Plenty of meal options so you never get tired to tried something new. Surely not fancy but unique experience. Only downside side is the cash-only rule. Recommended for the price too
They don’t make them like this anymore. A unique place with loads of character, quality homemade food, and a relaxing homey atmosphere. Great Italian sub and eggplant parmesan, with crispy cottage fries on the side. Sit at the bar and take in the amazing collection of bar-related antiques, old film posters, all manner of cool stuff. One of a kind.
Love this place... family run and wonderful food. My father-in-law has been coming here for over 30 years!!! Highly recommend to satisfy that italian comfort food craving you might have. But be careful, don't want to be falling asleep at your desk in the afternoon... grab a quick espresso next door at the starbucks to get you back on your game!
This place is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. Their Focaccia Sub is one of the greatest sandwiches I've ever had. There have been many times I have gone to this establishment with the intent to order something else, but then my reflexes kick in an I order the Focaccia Sub. It's that good. Everything else I have tried on the menu has been excellent, but their is something about the Focaccia Sub that keeps drawing me back. I recommend this place 10 out of 10 times when someone asks where to get lunch. The only drawback is that they are M-F establishment.
Ladies and Gentlemen.. You cannot find a better lunch spot in the city of Chicago and you have my word on that. The staff here is incredible and the food is to die for. I recommend the Tomato bread focaccia sandwich.
The Italian beef w sausage combo was incredible! I'm not going to get a new one for a long time. I have a few questions about the other day and I was wondering if you could send me a copy of the receipt for the rest of our behalf and I will be there for the interview.
I’ve worked a few blocks from Bombacignos for years now, but I didn’t even know it existed until recently. I can’t believe it took me this long to discover it. The smoked turkey on focaccia sandwich might be the best lunch item in the Loop area. The cottage fries are also delicious, served hot and fresh. The staff is friendly and efficient, just be aware that this is a cash only restaurant.
Old school Italian Chicago deli/subs - oozing with charm and days gone by, this old world food spot will have you coming back if only for the experience. I had the Italian Beef, which does not stand up to Al's or Portillos but it wasn't terrible. Constant buzz of others, many whom appear to be regulars suggest there's more on the menu to be explored. Will come again.
