Bread and Sauce has the feel of an old REM album. Yes, good music is playing inside the place, but moreover the thoughtful and intelligent appointments to the decor only nod to the amazing energy and cate put into the menu and the ingredients. You know when a person makes a sandwich where the ingredients and thoughtfully applied and care is taken so that each bite has the same tasty experience as the others that a place cares about consistency. The tomato was in season and local. You can even buy some rather amazing flavors of hot by Co-Op such as Ramp Finishing -This rich and classy sauce is packed full of sustainably harvested wild ramps for a deep silky finish for all of your grilling and sauteing needs.
And to close…

Wow. Like WOW. Amazing food and the hot sauces are incredibly flavorful. It’s not just heat - but flavors you want to taste in the sauce. Cool place with great local finds. If you’re a Chicagoan or a visitor, strongly recommend you stop in and grab a hot sauce for the road. They don’t disappoint!

What an amazing place! My normal bakery was closed, the pandemic caused them to need to take an extended break for the holiday season so they were closed. I had a taste for some quiche and so I put the search into Google and it brought me here. Little did I know that I was going to experience what I experience. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming! The sheer variety of offerings on display was a joy to behold. Yes I got the quiche and it was amazing filled with ricotta cheese and mushrooms. But then they make chili in house black bean and brisket with in-house made vegan cheese. And then the pastries scones and filled croissants it was really spectacular. I will definitely be back!
Woah what a gem of a spot! Incredibly fresh, unique and consistent food. Great for grab and go, or they have nice seating in and outside. I had an almond cake pastry that blew my mind. The woman who took care of us at the counter was able to guide us through the menu and made great recommendations, A+ service. Definitely will be coming back.
Went here because we just moved in very near this place. Wasn’t expecting much (I admit I was PRETTY HANGRY). Ordered the Reuben. I have had a lot of Reubens. I like them. “Everybody” has “the best one”, most are bullsh@%ing you. In my honest opinion, this place has the best Reuben I have ever had! Period! Very good food, decent prices; a great place to grab a bite to eat.
This review is LONG overdue! TLDR; run, don't walk to SBK!! I've been enjoying Sauce & Bread Kitchen for years and can't say enough great things. Their food is incredible and inspired - the house made breads and pastries are perfect and their menu is full of unique delicious offerings made with quality ingredients. I was never big on fish and for some reason decided to try the Troutmaster (everything else I'd tried had been great, so why not?!). I've become a smoked fish fiend - it's now my go-to and I even replicate it at home. The coffee is also delicious - I get it iced with a dash of the simple syrup (which I think might be infused with cinnamon and cardamom? - so good!) and oatmilk. YUM! They also turned part of the dining area into a market during the pandemic - I love to browse all the interesting items including their housemade sauces and other local products! On top of it all, they couldn't be nicer people. Everyone is always so kind and helpful. SBK 4 LYFE! 🤩
Visited 2 days in a row and wish I lived closer than Seattle cuz I'd be here every single day. Thank you for the the amazing food. I can't wait to share Mike's sauces with all the luckiest people in the PNW.
My go-to breakfast/brunch place on the north side. The owners are always coming up with new stuff like venison Raman (pictured). Their baked goods are fresh and delicious. I always make sure to pick up 4-5 co-op hot sauce bottles when I am here! Love this place.
