Completely blown away! Been living in Colchester for so long, & never thought of going to our very own diner here! Always searched for great diners all around us but we have a gem diner right here!! So mad we haven’t tried them sooner, but the place is just wonderful! Wonderful food, the staff was amazing very personable, sit where you want & enjoy some great breakfast/brunch food and lunch food as well! We had breakfast there or really brunch & loved it! The pancakes were amazing & eggs, hash browns, etc!! All with a good dose of coffee!! Yes please!!! Will be visiting many times again in the future! Great little find!!
The food was amazing the atmosphere you felt as if you were sitting in the owner's kitchen the staff was top-notch and the muffins were out of this world
The people are so amazing and the food is incredible! Great place to bring the family for a home cooked diner breakfast!
Rosemary was so sweet and attendant. We stopped in Herman’s Drive-in before our drive back to Brooklyn on a weekday late morning. Everyone was so friendly, service was fast and food was good! We ordered the make your own omelettes and they were made perfectly. Our server Rosemary was very helpful and genuinely kind. As an LGBTQ black couple, it was a great experience in CT.
Let me start by saying that the food itself was very good. We sat down at 11:10am, was able to order food at 11:15am. We received our food at 12:05pm. Almost an hour for breakfast. While it was busy, the place is very small and absolutely inexcusable for breakfast to take an hour. Regardless, the eggs were perfectly cooked, the toast was done just right but the hash browns were mush and very oily. Some people might like it that way but I felt they needed to be crispy. The bacon was perfectly cooked. Everything had a small bit of char on it which was the best part. Small Town atmosphere, you know what to expect walking in. You know what's being cooked because you can see it. Overall good experience.
It was an icy day and we didn't want to travel far so we gave this place a try. We were so happy we did. The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and the staff extremely friendly. We will definately be back.
Food was good. Service was friendly. This place is a "greasy spoon" in every sense of the word, and I mean that in a good way. I'd definitely go back if I was in the area again.

Great hot off the grill breakfast. Sit down or order out. Eggs, omlettes , hash , homefries hot off the grill. Great Service good portions and quality.
Funky little spot with good breakfast options. Got the irish eggs benedict which was tasty. Also got some pancakes which were a very good size. I'd return again in the future. Pickup was easy. Place gets packed so call your order in early.
Great spot worth the wait
Delicious food, and amazing muffins. It is a diner so there is limited seating, but worth the wait. I got the Benedict with hash on it. It was a large portion and most of it had to go home. I wish the English muffin was toasted more, but still good (spinach was added to cut down on the saltiness of the hollandaise). My friend also ordered a spinach and kielbasa omelette which was quite large as well. The home fries were amazing and perfectly flavored.
Only place we go for breakfast . Great eggs any way ! made to order! And quickly! Lots of regulars there! You can tell by the interaction between customers and staff.
I am grateful for Waze, our GPS app. Since we are unfamiliar with restaurants in Connecticut, I entered “Breakfast Salem CT” We got a list which predictably included Dunkin Donuts and other chains. However, one stood out. Herman’s Diner. We like Mom and Pop places, so we plotted a course. It was a pure 50’s diner with stools at the counter facing the stove and grill. The staff was bustling. Two young men were peeling potatoes at our end of the counter, chatting while they worked. I took pictures of the Moose. They told us they thought the Moose were cool. Of course, they are. The server, a multi-tasking dynamo, said her friend traveled with Gumby, taking pictures everywhere she went. Everything on the menu looked delicious. One of the young men advised that the “biscuits and gravy are the bomb” and “the portions are huge.” He was right. We found gold. This is a little bit of heaven in Connecticut!
Great little spot. Open Early. Good Prices. Good Food.
We seen this little building and decided to just try this place. Excellent experience!!! Staff is very friendly, the absolute most accommodating and prompt service we’ve had in so long. The atmosphere was comfortable. Food is so delicious. It’s hard to find good breakfast potatoes these days and these were perfect!! Thank You for the great experience we so needed one!!
Cute little town diner, love the area and food is a good price with great quality!
Food was awesome!!! The staff was very friendly and fast.
Stopped at Herman's yesterday. While I've lived in Colchester my whole life that was only the second time I ate there. I was partial to the other diner in town for most of my life until it closed.
The food and service are great and I do like the intimacy of it. The only drawback is probably out of their control. Being it is such a classic/historic diner, the grease smell is typical and of course it melds itself to your clothing. Again, I am pretty sure that's nothing they can do about it.
I highly recommend it.
Friendly workers. Food portions are a lot for your money. Food cooked well and I will go again
The real diner. Locals and visitors enjoy sitting at the counter and watching the cook put out breakfast 🍳 efficiently. Ask for a He I’m the Wall on rye. My favorite.
Small place but quality food and staff are super nice
Definitely a spot I go to when I'm in town as I've been several times in the past.
This place has an amazing breakfast! Just like eating breakfast at your grandma’s house! Big portions at a good price. Loved it!!
