Smokehouse does two things well. The beer is pretty good but there really is something to be said for a good barbecue, and this place most definitely fulfills that.
This place is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. It's family-friendly, has a relaxing ambiance, the staff is super nice and the food is delicious. Our favorites are the BBQ Nachos with pulled chicken and the Boy Oh Boy Trio in either the silders or the mini taco salads. This place has amazing dill pickles too! I'd give it a perfect score except the Mac 'n' Cheese lacks in flavor. I'd expect more pizzaz since everything else really excels in taste.
Smokehouse Brewing (formerly Barleys Smokehouse) is best known for great craft beer and their signature wings. What makes the wings so special? They are more work than any other wings in town - they are brined, then smoked, then grilled to order before being served with what in my (trained BBQ judge and longtime food writer) are the best sauces in town. The BBQ sampler is usually a good bet.
An absolutely awesome experience for a friend, my girlfriend, and I. We shared the Buffalo chicken dip, appetizer sampler, and four-meat dinner sampler, and it was excellent. They were out of their stout and Belgian tripel, which was a bit disappointing, but the beers we tried were very good. Absolutely a great place to go for a filling, meaty dinner. Also, is called "Barley's Smokehouse" in-person last I checked.
Delicious Food. Great food! Delicious wings and ribs! We will be back!
My favorite wings in Columbus. I haven't been to Barley's in Grandview for a while, but every time we go, I think, "They've got the best wings!" So we went last night and I promised myself that I'd write a quick review on why I love their wings and sauerkraut balls so much. Their wings are smoked for an hour, and then grilled for a couple minutes to give them some color, and the meat almost falls off the bone. So if you're the type of person who loves taking 10 minutes to get all the meat off of one tiny fried wing, you might not appreciate these wings. There are 5 sauce flavors, which is all you need when the wings themselves are so tasty. I do like Rooster's wings, and Winking Lizard's, for they both have some amazing sauces. But when the wings are just so-so, you better have a million sauces to choose from. About those sauerkraut balls... Sometimes when I order this item, they end up being a bit more bitter than I remember, but the ones at Barley's are so smooth and somehow creamy that they melt in your mouth. And if you like a less bitter non-hoppy beer, their Amber Summer Wheat is amazing, with just a hint of Michigan cherries. Seriously the best dinner I've had lately!
Good food, beer and ambience. I have been here two times and enjoyed each visit. They have a good beef brisket sandwich and can be washed down by a variety of beers they have on-site or pick from many "guest" beers. I'll definitely be back.
Fav place in town for beer and BBQ
Family of 5, we took our kids to this restaurant for family night.. Great service great food. Will definitely return....Weel worth the money
My wife was looking for "lots of meat" so when I saw the carnivore sampler on their menu, I was sold. A great selection of beer was also a big plus. The meats did not disappoint. Brisket, the special of the night, was amazingly tender. Ribs and pulled pork were great as well. Horseradish mashed potatoes were tasty as expected. Mac&cheese was tasteless. I will try onion straws next time. TVs played a variety of sports. One downside was the non-management of a very large group near us. They ran out of seats and instead of the waitress helping them find another table or rearrange the one they had, she took their drink orders as they stood directly behind my wife's chair. But overall, a satisfying BBQ meal. We will be back.
I tried Barley's Smokehouse about 10 years ago and thought it was okay, I didn't go back until last summer and had the brisket baked beans and can't get enough! The brisket quesadilla is really good and the grilled wings withe the KC sauce and gates of hell on the side, they tend to burn with the sauce grilled on them. The beer selection is great. The service and the food is inconsistent. The food is always good, but sometimes it's great.
Holy Smokehouse Batman!. Traveled to Columbus to see my Penguins take on the Blue Jackets. As with every city I go to, I found a fellow fat man and asked him where the locals love to eat. Without hesitation, he said Barley's and gave me directions. Simply put, the scotch ale was nothing short of angelic. I also ordered the wings, and hands down the best BBQ wings I've ever had. I can't wait for next hockey season when I plan to refill my growler and my soul.
Wasn't expecting much, and was blown away. The skill of the staff was evident in the smoked meats. The ribs had a good smokeline and were tender and flavorful. The brisket was smokey and moist. Like others have said the fries were ho hum. The baked beans made up for it with complex flavors unexpected in such a side.
4 Basic Food Groups = Pork, Beef, Chicken, and Beer. Barley's Smokehouse is a low-key, unpretentious spot in the Southwest corner of Grandview to lay low, relax, and fill yourself up with good barbeque and good beer. Parking is on-site and plentiful, with an over-flow lot behind the building (and an FYI -- the entrance is on the side of the building, not in the front).
The atmosphere is what you'd expect, with various hop and malt bags stapled to the ceiling and various beer signs and memorabilia decorating the walls. There is even a shelf the circles most of the building that is filled with the various empty beer bottles and growlers that act as a resume for the brewer's knowledge and experience with his craft. The brewhouse is partitioned off (and not open to the public), but luckily there are large windows offering a glimpse into the brewing operations to pique your interest while you eat. Seating inside is plentiful, but there is also a patio out front if you find yourself there on a particularly nice day.
The food is primarily barbeque -- though non-discriminatory, offering both Kansas City-style (ketchup and molasses based) and Carolina-style (vinegar based) sauces. The flavor is well above the typical BBQ you find in Ohio, and is my personal favorite here in C-Bus. You've got all of the classics on the menu -- pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken, 2 kinds of coleslaw, mac 'n cheese, etc., with a few seafood, salad, and burger/sandwich-type offerings for those not BBQ-inclined. Typical entrees range from $7-12. They do offer a special Brisket dinner on Saturdays, but the real treat comes during special occasions when they smoke a whole hog and cut you off a slice right there in front of you.
Service is more than satisfactory for a brewpub and BBQ joint. If your expect the service of a 5-star fine dining establishment, you'll be dissappointed, but once you temper those expectations, you'll be pleased.
On to the beer. They offer 5-6 of their own beers at any given time that are semi-seasonal, with 1-2 Real Ale options and 1 Nitro-tap. They have a weekly Firken option every Friday afternoon - which usually goes pretty quickly - and they will also fill up growlers to-go for any of their own regular taps. In addition to their own beer, they usually have 6-10 guest taps and bottles that rotate frequently and are well-chosen amongst the craft offerings out there, as well as a respectable Whisky and Scotch selection.
This is definitely a "Regulars" type of place, as you'll immediately realize by the groups of old-timers posting up at the bar. Further, if you grow tired of their regular offerings, they hold many special events through out the year, including Oysters and Stout night, Hop-IPA-alooza, and the Mini-Real Alefest, all worth a visit. Enjoy.
Must-try dish: Mildred's Saurkraut Balls
Best sauerkraut balls ever!. Both the Smokehouse and Barley's have just awesome sauerkraut balls and really good beer. I almost always get the Brisket and the fresh veggies. The veggies are often a bit over cooked, but the beef is really good. Not quite RRailhead in Ft. Worth good, but way up there. Great sauce, a bit of heat, perfect to dip your bread in. Check their seasonal beers, The bread pudding is pretty damn good as well.
Great Micro Brew. This place serves microbrews that are made on site and has great bbq to go with it.
Great beer, good BBQ. Barley's beer - average to good
Guest taps - good to excellent
BBQ - above average
Yuppies suck. But the food is great. I walked in looking like my biker self, and was surrounded by yuppies staring at me.
But the ribs are delicious! A great dry rub. I'll definitely come back!

Every year the wonderful world of technology brings me to Columbus Ohio for the annual E-Tech Ohio Conference. I decided to take advantage of these few days in Columbus and do some reviews of some local brewpubs and eateries. My first stop brought me to Barley's Smokehouse and Brewpub. Ratebeer.com recently rated Barley's as the 86th best brewer in the world. How could I not go there after reading that information? Food ---Being a Smokehouse, Barley's menu heavily revolved around BBQ. I opted for the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich. I love BBQ and I love pulled pork, steak and chicken so I really had some high hopes for what I was about to eat. Here is how the sandwich was described on the menu " Whole chickens are seasoned and hickory slow-smoked until just right, then hand pulled off the bone and put on a brioche roll and topped with our own Kansas City BBQ sauce." The sandwich was served with shoestring fries as well. As you can see from the picture the sandwich has a good amount of pul
The building has a long history in Columbus dining. It was once Jack Bowman’s Suburban Steakhouse home of the nation’s first salad bar (although a few other places debate this). Then it was a B.J. Salvi’s…oh, Pasta Salvi, how I miss you. In 1997 (or 1998 depending on a few interpretations of various things) Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub was born. Most of you know of Barley’s Ale House #1 located downtown. And 95% of those folks that know, know that Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub was connected to Barley’s by ownership until 2012. Smokehouse Brewing is still owned by Lenny Kolada. Angelo Signorino Jr. is still the head brewer in the house. While the name change was announced a few weeks ago, today, May 7th, is the day that Smokehouse Brewing decided to go big and stay home with a new menu. Many menu favorites of the last 15+ years are still on the menu but if you are a regular afraid of change, I encourage you to take the plunge into these new selections. If you have never visited, th
Stopped in for a quick warm-up and a beer. Chili and Gumbo were hot and delicious. Pumpkin Cask beer was tasty. And there was a pop-up group of musicians playing Irish music.
We visit a few time per year with the whole family. Always greeted by friendly staff members. Great food and atmosphere. This locatione never disappoint! Thank you.
Where do I start 😂 cool location with a nice patio and bar area. Easily some of the best smoked chicken wings I’ve had in Columbus (and I’ve tried many). The flavor was amazing and the brine process kept the wings very moist. Kansas City bbq and Carolina gold didn’t wow me but will try other sauces next time.
The brisket nachos were awesome! Beer cheese tasted great and the salsa too. Topping coverage could have been a little better. Easily top 10 in Columbus.
Good selection of house brews and the house pineapple ipa I had great flavor. Next time I’ll try the stout.
Our hostess was super friendly but our waitress must have been having an off day. Also not her fault, but the kitchen halved our wing order somehow. Probably the only fault of the whole experience. A good try after trying Barleys for the first time given the previous ownership connection (exceptional service through and through at Barleys haha). Definitely worth the drive!
This place has great service. The food is okay. We had appetizers - smoked wings and sauerkraut balls which were okay.
The atmosphere is cool and could be better (very large place, somewhat dark in the back.
5/5 on all fronts: taste, dining experience, price
Had the cured and smoked pastrami sandwich with coleslaw. Man was this a treat. The beef brine came through on the palette, and the Swiss cheese complemented the smoky zest.
The establishment was cool, clean and the outdoor patio was spacious. Next time I will enjoy a brew outside. The service was attentive and in good mood.
We like to visit this establishment when we get over to this area. Food is usually good and the beer always hits the spot. Unfortunately they seem to be down on staff so this particular visit wasn’t great. But that’s everywhere so I can’t really hold that against them. I had the baby back ribs with Mac and cheese and tots and my husband had the meat loaf. Tots were over cooked and hard in the middle, my husbands green beans were cold and cold water squirted out of them when you would bite them. Stick to the pub grub and you will be happy. I recommend the sauerkraut balls…yum!! Give them a try if you are in the area.
So this place admittedly looks like it's closed from the outside but seriously come right on in. The food is really freaking good, especially the wings. I've been here twice now and the place is empty!! I think they do a good takeout business, but still. We legit had a private watch party for the OSU game on Saturday because nobody was there! If you're on the fence about this place (because you think it's closed?) give it a try!! Additionally, their outdoor patio space is dog friendly.
Wow, what an experience, start to finish. We were waitied on Latyce who was more than willing to bring out samples for us to find the right beers. (Fantastic)
Our cocktails had depth of flavor.
But the food.
Wow. Wowowow. We ordered almost ever sauce, apps galore and 2 main entrées.
Flavor was out of this world good. No lie, best Jamaican Jerk sauce I've ever had.
Wings should be the #1 best in town.
Inferno sandwich is something to brag about.
Long story short, 11/10 would come back.
Best darn barbecue in the city hands-down. Extremely tasty! Even their pickles are absolutely delicious! I do not have one bad word to say about this place. Highly recommend you get some food from here.

Great lunch today! I ordered the smokehouse classic salad with brisket - it was delicious and huge! My friend got a burger that looked amazing. Our server was so friendly!
We arrived with a little less than an hour before closing. The staff was attentive and pretty upbeat for the end of the day. The drinks were good. The food was nicely portioned for the price. The menu has a little something for a variety of dietary preferences.
Our fav wings (& pickles) in 614. Service is good but tight during semi-busy times. We all (two adults, two children) love eating here.
Def recommend!
Solid BBQ and great scotch selection. Cool staff. Music isn't too loud, which is great. Coming back asap.
Located just south of Grandview, Smokehouse Brewing Company is a bar & grill with a sizeable menu, a full bar, and even a private room for small events. Most of the menu items are designed to pair with specific types of drinks (usually with a reference to said pairing), and the staff is exceptionally prompt and friendly.
There isn't much around it in the way of shops, and the location doesn't cater to those without their own transportation, but it is certainly worth the trip if you're looking for an above-average, bar & grill experience.
The good: exceptionally friendly staff. The food and service are excellent.
The bad: staffing shortages since the pandemic (though the staff and management are great). A pinch pricey (but worth it).
The back room is available for small events, including D&D (I've played it here on multiple occasions), and the staff is VERY friendly and accommodating. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would.
Food and drinks excellent. I had the Cosmo. Best Cosmo in decades. I did the bbq slider trio. I will be back. Only complaint was when we arrived seating was confusing. No one up front.
