Awesome lunch deals. This place is officially my best lunch place. for 7.50, tax included, you get a lot of menu options, my favorite, their pulled pork sandwich, they smoke their own pork. It comes with soup or salad. Staff is very friendly. Vibe is totally a dive bar which is pretty cool.
Somehow, and I'm not quite sure how, I've never been to High Beck Tavern without something weird happening. I'm not talking zombie-apocalypse-weird or even stranger-proposes-marriage weird, just slightly-off-kilter-weird and probably-worth-mentioning-later-to-friends-weird and definitely-going-on-the-blog-weird. High Beck is located on the edge of German Village, right at the intersection of--fittingly--High and Beck. I've found that it's a fairly popular happy hour locale, presumably due to its central location, large interior, cheap drinks, and the fact that it has not only an outdoor patio, but also a pool table. Oh, yeah, and they casually give away free food every Monday and Tuesday. That might have something to do with it, too. The first time I went to High Beck was with a friend of mine who was a member of my sorority in college and had already been living in Columbus for a few years. We were having a sort of "girls' night out" shindig where we tried to relive the college glory
The High Beck Tavern is a real neighborhood dive bar. It reminds me of the places that were in the OSU campus area before gentrification. As I have said, we enjoy exploring dive bars and visiting the High Beck is always popular. The pizza is delicious, and you can build your own. The BBQ is super, but not out of this world. The BBQ includes both brisket and pulled pork. The BBQ is not cooked with a great deal of seasoning, but there are several sauces for you to try. There are subs, burgers, and chili dogs. We love the BBQ and pizza, which is mostly what we go for.
The High Beck is a real dive establishment. Ordering is done at the bar. The prices are low, and the beer is cold. The High Beck is ideal if you are going out with a crew. Everyone will find something to munch on, and no one will mind if you become a little rowdy. Parking is at meters along High Street. So, if you become bored with the Short North, make a trip down High Street with your pals to the High Beck in German Village.
Right across the street from classics, if you are looking for a smaller bar without nearly as much why do and you wish to play ping pong then this is the bar for you. Pretty good wings also
The owner , excellent . Stuff , excellent . Food and prices , excellent . Live entertainment , Barefoot Jake McCoy . Absolutely excellent . Patrons , some of the finest people you will ever meet . Atmosphere , very well done . To the owner I would like to personally thank you for creating such an atmosphere and environment that all is Shirley to love .
Received great customer service from Jami. She was super nice and attentive! When something went wrong with our order, the owner Wayne and Jami took initiative to make it right. If you are looking for good food at a reasonable price and excellent customer service, this is your place.
I had my retirement party here because my friends could get happy hour prices on a Friday.
Free wifi with no password.
Full bar, great beer selection, kitchen, fair prices, ample bar and table seating, pool table, patio on High St.
good background music.
This place feels so authentic and unpolished, it really makes for a perfect night in a bar with some friends! Despite a few of my favourite beers not being available when I visited and a shady-looking staircase to the toilets, the bar is absolutely fantastic and I would return in a heartbeat!
The sub was on point thanks I definitely will be back!!!
Grungy old school kind of bar. Good prices and laid back atmosphere. Has dart boards and ping pong table. Outside seating a plus.
Traveling through, never been there before, and it happened to be one of the best bars I've ever been at. Open late, great crowd, cool vibe, great prices, good music, free pizza, couldn't of found a better place..
Got potato skins and a mixed drink and a beer. Everything was good. Lisa made it great. She definitely knows what she is doing.
This is a cool place to grab a drink after work in the downtown area. But the seating is pretty limited and it's a little disorganized. We weren't really sure how to get food ordered or how it would get to our table. The bartending staff was really friendly but a little overwhelmed when we went on a Thursday at 6pm.
I organized our racquetball Banquet there. High Becks is a small corner tavern with your standard beer and bar food, but they also have a ping pong table and pool table that's great when you have a group of people that want to do more than sit at the bar, drink and talk. They had some great 80's music piped in, but it wasn't so loud you couldn't hear each other. Perfect for socializing! The bar tenders were all nice and checked on us at perfect times to see if we needed refills. They have typical bar food. I did order the potato halves and they were good, but didn't get anything to eat. The crowd was friendly and shared the ping pong table and pool table without monopolizing them. The only draw back I could make, and I'm stretching it here to find anything negative, is the parking in the Brewery district. It took me a while to find a metered parking spot. But it was well worth the extra time spent to find a spot. All of us had a great time! Denise was our bartender most of the night and she did a great job making the rounds and making sure everyone was served. And she was nice to everyone in our group. While I'm mostly easy going I can get a little obnoxious when with the guys and she was able to hold her own with our group. The bartender that replaced her was just as friendly and checked with us often as well. If you're looking for a typical neighborhood bar that's not too loud, not too rowdy, and has ping pong and pool in addition to drinks and bar food then I highly recommend High Beck Tavern. I'll definitely go there again soon.
My favorite spot in German village! Good fried snacks, great atmosphere, and friendly bartenders. The owner is absolutely the best guy, great person to talk with!
We were staying at the Holiday Inn and made this our go to spot before heading to Hockey Games. The beer prices were cheap and the food was excellent. You will have to be patient as the staff count is not high and you have to order your food from the bar outside of that it is a fantastic bar.
š wings are absolutely delicious š¤¤ and drinks are fair as well great place to enjoy friends and make some new ones
Food was great! š
Service was great!š
Come here for the ping pong table. Also have foosball and a pool table. From what Iāve heard the pulled pork or brisket is very good. Canāt remember which one he said, but I have a friend who is big into smoked meats (haha) and said this was true. I was surprised because Iāve eaten here many times and never thought the food was exceptional. But perhaps I was ordering the wrong things.
It really is a great time and great atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday night and thereās a line to get in the ping pong table. Even better feeling is when you win your game and youāre all sweaty waiting for the next opponent. And youāre also sipping your nice cold beer or other adult beverage. Canāt wait to go back.
