Nice comfy local dive bar. Everyone is super friendly and the owner is constantly trying new concepts. When I visited, they had wonderful ice cream sandwiches and excellent deals on craft beer. I look forward to stopping in the next time I visit my friends in the neighborhood.
I affectionately refer to Carabar as a hole-in-the-wall sort of place. Definitely not a yuppie palace, but rather a friendly neighborhood bar accepting of all ilks.
I am a food snob! Mostly, because I love to cook, and hate going out to eat food I could have made better myself. On my first visit to Carabar I was skeptical, bar food ugh. I WAS WRONG!!! I was told to try the tacos and did. My present favorite are the fish tacos. I order the soft shell variety and love them...I have been to local Mexican restaurants that don't even come close to competing. Someone at Carabar, I suspect Cara herself, loves and knows good food and it shows.
I read one negative review of their food by someone (complete idiot) who had the veggie dog and said it was horrible... All veggie dogs are horrible...I hated them when I was a vegetarian and as a foodie the concept is just wrong...sorry I digress into my food snobbery.
Thank you and keep up the good work
if you want free popcorn, they have it. and cheap tacos on tuesday, and cheap drinks, good beers on tap. also, good bands play there. be forewarned: it's hipster paradise. they're everywhere there. and the hipster bartender always gives me attitude when i order or drink, or ask about anything. it's the guy with the hipster mustache.
Sometimes you just get too cool for cheap drinks and good tacos. (Honestly though...)
Totally a cool place to lax until I realized anyone can go to bars. I like staring at hip strangers i don't know. Not average Joes drinking pbr feeling cool. LOL
This bar is a great part of Columbus. Went back for the first time in years..
pitchers are still 3 dollars and 99% of employees there kill it for the customer.
If you're not too impressed with yourself to accept a good deal and have fun, i'd highly recommend
One of the ultimate Columbus dive bars. Carabar has a menu of good bar food, plenty of beers on draft, and if you are looking to go cheap, I highly recommend their mini-pitchers of something like PBR. Carabar has a pool table and always has live entertainment, which best of all never has a cover. The bar is pretty big but still tends to get crowded on weekends. Parking can be dicey in the area as the street tends to fill up. There is an empty lot across the street but the legality of parking there has always been up for grabs I think, and in the winter it can get downright treacherous.
Carabar is a great place for food, drinks, live music, and great company!
The menu is amazing. I've had burgers, vegetarian chili, fajitas, and salads and all were terrific. They make everything in-house from good ingredients; none of it is factory food.
The drinks are fairly priced and they have a great selection. There's a whole wall of beers so you'll find something you like. They also have a full bar with everything from well to top shelf. There are four top-shelf gins and at least as many different kinds of vodka. Rachel got me to try Tito's vodka, which was really sweet & kind of tasted like corn. That was a huge contrast to Grey Goose or Ketel One, which they also have. I can't remember if they have Beefeater or Tanqueray (my usuals) but they have at least one. They also have Ohio brands, so you can drink local. I saw an equally-impressive selection of whiskey & bourbon, but that's not my bag so I can't personally vouch.
A lot of my friends have played at Carabar. The sound man right now is really good, so the instruments are well-balanced. I've heard (and sometimes played) everything from jazz to hiphop, and there are a lot of indie rock shows too. They have a wide variety of music, so you can go there often and not get tired of only one thing.
The best thing is the people! I've known the owners for years, and the bartenders are great. Cara in particular is a shining beam of happiness. Carabar is a place you can have a great time and invest locally rather than some generic place like Applebee's or whatever. I'll take the local flavor any time.
Friendly staff. Reasonably priced drinks. Cool/relaxed/chill enviroment. Tasty food. Overall great dive bar in the Columbus area. Would 100% recommend giving it a try!
This was the best place in the city to go for Taco Tuesday, for diversity, for a good jukebox, to shoot pool, to "just be" whomever you are. I really miss this place. Bad. Went there the whole time they were open and never once had a bad experience. Not once.
Great bar. Awesome drinks. If you want a real taste of Columbus history, slip Ron a fiver and ask him to show you the basement. If he's not feeling too surly he should be up for it.
Now im a little over the age of the majority of the people that come here. There is a wide variety so if your close minded dont come here. The buffalo chicken quesidillia is probably the best overall meal. It is the most value and best tasting for six bucks. By the way the burgers are good too
Friendly, good prices, comfortable, good music UPDATE 6/12/18: Sadly., Carabar closed several months ago due to freeway expansion. What a loss for the neighborhood. Longstanding places full of good memories are dropping like flies all over the place. (Carabar, Florentine, Blue Danube the past six months or so.) I hope we don't lose any more.
Cheap beer and food, taco tuesday happy hour is great $1 for most of their tacos otherwise $2 each. Fast service, can get somewhat cramped during happy hour
Great Place. Easy to find parking around the block or so that surrounds it. I like the ambiance and the liberal artistic expression in and throughout the business. I will enjoy going everytime I go.
If I mention a bar in columbus; it's probably Carabar. Great drink prices, amazing food quality, and free shows throughout the week. I love everything about Carabar.
Great place to stop in and get some good craft beer on tap. They have great daily deals for food as well, along with live music.
Why not a 5 star? Because nothing is perfect! Great mushrooms! Great atmosphere! Awesome music! I love this place!
Can't get cooler than this bar. Great happy hour and staff. Best vibe around.
The food is good, the drinks are cheap, and the music is always free; what more could you ask for?
