Sushi was really good, service was bad. Our waitress seemed pretty overwhelmed, either she was the only one scheduled or someone didn't show up. Either way the service was not a pleasant experience... But go for the food for sure, sushi is simple and delicious without a bunch of frills...
Not as good as it use to be. Service is strange. Sushi cuts are good. Kind of a different place. Use to come here a lot way back. Same chef in the back.
If you want fast food sushi, go to HEB. This is a place to go to enjoy an evening and, in my opinion, the best quality sushi in Corpus Christi. The reason they stay in business are regulars like me that recognize the difference between average sushi and excellent sushi. Much of why the fish and other foods are so good at Origami is that the chef trained in Japan for years and knows how to select the best quality seafood. Anyone that has ever lived in or visited Japan knows how selective and picky they are about their sushi. And when you go, and it doesn't seem as if it should take so long, keep in mind they do a big business in people stopping in to pick up phoned in orders. Friday nights can be especially slow so if you want to try the food and don't have the time or patience you may have better luck on a week night.
The Japanese experience is not about churning tables as is traditional here in the States. As many readers will say, it is not a place to go for a traditional American type meal where you can get in and out in 30 minutes. The experience in Japan includes making an event out of the meal. When a group of us go, we usually plan on spending around an hour and a half to two hours and enjoy ourselves and not be in a rush.
The more you go and become a familiar customer, the more the chef starts to share with you the exotic items that are not on the menu. Regulars also get extra treats from the chef. It is a restaurant run by a great Japanese sushi chef and his wife and I like it because they treat me like family. Plus it is a small business owned by them, and is not one of the big chains that you can find all up and down SPID. If you love great quality traditional Japanese sushi give it a try. I have been eating there for thirteen years so maybe I'll see you there next time...
Great sushi, terrible wait. Having once lived in Japan and then finding myself in Corpus, I did not have high hopes for the quality of sushi at this restaurant. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised! This is some of the best sushi I've had in the States. I'm pretty sure I've had better only in Japan and Vancouver. Unbelievable to find such a gem!
Now for the downside - no one is joking about the wait. I showed up for lunch. There were no more than 3 other tables in the restaurant with customers the entire time I was there. It took forever to have someone take my order. After my order was taken, I watched someone walk in, go to the bar, sit down, place an order, and receive his order before I received mine. I did not have a complicated order - one roll and 4 pieces of sushi. Took forever to get the check as well. When I paid and got change, I noticed they paid it in large bills, meaning I either had to break the bill, give them a ridiculous tip, or woefully undertip. I almost undertipped, but ended up flagging down the waiter (who couldn't be bothered to check on my drink or see if I needed anything else for the entire meal) and still gave a decent tip.
Probably the best way to enjoy Origami is to call for take out. Place the order with plenty of time and take it home with you to avoid the terrible service. Shame that such great food has such poor service.
Authentic Japanese Cuisine. My favorite sit-down restaurant. You won't find any better Japanese food or sushi anywhere! Period. I have to restrict how many times per week I eat there because I enjoy it so much. Prices are reasonable and all the wait staff speak English. It's a real Japanese restaurant.
Best sushi in town. What a treasure! This place has the feel of some fantastic hole in the wall from a large city. The servers learn your name quickly as well as your regular order. And the sushi is just amazing. Try their seaweed salad, it's seasoned just right.
LOVE THIS PLACE. I can't say enough about this place. I have been going here for over 5 years and frequent the restaurant at least twice a week. If you want true authentic sushi than this is the place to go! They don't have all of the fried sushi or sushi will all of the sauces all over them just the simple sushi in which I love. The sushi is always fresh and great quality! The wait staff is pretty amazing as well! One of the owners of the restaurant is actually the sushi chef. If you haven't tried it, You must give it a try!
Straightforward authentic and real sushi. If you like flashy rolls go somewhere else because those are not even close to real japanese food.
If you are scared of sushi, the entrees are incredible. Ginger steak or simple chicken teriyaki are worlds apart from other restaurants in town.
The only downside is that it is a small business, so it is more prone to a longer wait during rushes. It is important to have patience if planning to go on a friday. But during the week expect prompt, friendly service and food just like Japan!
Best Authentic Japanese. From what I've gathered, this one's the only true Japanese owned restaurant in town. The owner himself is the one who makes the sushi. All the rest of the sushi places in town are either Korean or Chinese owned. So, whenever I feel like having Japanese foodi, this is the only place for me.
In my opinion best sushi in corpus christi.
A favorite! Great service, nothing is flashy. Simple menu but delicious food.
Okinawa, Japan is my hometown. Hands down this is one resturant that tastes like home!
Best Japanese Cuisine in Corpus. Hands down the best in Corpus. Reminds me of the food I had when I was in Japan. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and great price. Fridays and Saturdays can be a bit busy, but worth the wait.
Thought they changed the owner but dishes still fresh and delicious. The tempura is sooooo good and service are nice. Spend 116 dollars here and fully ate everything with my husband. Cheaper than Dallas, the city I came from.
So incredibly fresh. Every bite was very flavorful. Prices are surprisingly good. We had six rolls and all were winners. Kirin beer served in a frosted glass. Staff super friendly and humble. First time here. Wish I had discovered this place sooner.
10/10 sushi was fresh and really good fried rice was sweet and savory will be back again
Origami has been a Corpus Christi essential establishment since 1990, I personally have been visiting since as long as I can remember, my picture proudly hangs on the wall, a small 3 old buried deep into his soup bowl. The food is always great, and the sushi a exercise in perfection and dedication to true Japanese cuisine. The staff has had it's ups and downs but has settled into a comfortable consistency that is both welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere takes you to Japan and is very homey. Overall I highly recommend this establishment.
Ps try the Philadelphia Roll or the Dragon, both are excellent, and far better priced then many local rivals.
If your in the mood for tempura its excellent and the Ginger steak while a smaller cut is always excellent.
I always enjoy this place. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The food is so delicious and fresh. The waitstaff is always polite and helpful. I usually order a meal and try some new sushi items I've never tried before. So far they have all been well made and delicious even if some weren't for me. The portions seem a bit small but then again I'm used to American sized so this feels even more authentic.
THIS PLACE IS A GEM!!!!!!! THE FOOD IS AUTHENTIC!!! if this place ever closes down it would be a huge loss. i was only here about an hour and the staff knew nearly everyone in the establishment. the atmosphere is comfortable and i felt so cozy and safe here i almost fell asleep!
New management has brought back the Origami quality we know and love. Sushi was fresh and perfectly executed. Looking forward to coming back more!
The best sushi in Corpus IF you’re looking for Japanese food. Which you should be. You will not find 30 different $16 dollar rolls full of fried chicken and covered in strawberries here. This is an authentic Japanese restaurant. Try the sampler for a taste of festival street food. And if your starving, you’ve got to check out the big roll, a huge futomaki filled with tamagoyaki and daikon and all the good stuff.
They are very good. There is a small Sushi area in the back. Lots of parking in the front. Hot pot of green tea is on the menu. Do not eat here if you are in a rush. There appears to only be one server most of the time.

We are not from here and had a craving for sushi. Great food, reasonable cost, and kid friendly. Our kids loved it. Now we have a sushi restaurant in Corpus!
The sushi was great and so were the meals! The service is great and they have tasty mochi ice cream. Hidden gem for sure.
Our beloved Origami is back! The sushi was perfect: all the fish was fresh and the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned
It was amazing! Food was delicious, tasted very fresh. Workers were very kind too! 100% recommend this sushi restaurant
On the verge of their 28th anniversary. I’m sad we just discovered this place. The sushi is very fresh and they offer a great variety. The staff was very welcoming and friendly.
Ask for custom rolls with your favorite fish and you won't be displeased. Taka-san, the head chef, takes great pride in his ingredients and he makes the most delicious sushi that you will ever find in Corpus Christi. I get a "sushi-high" every time I eat here.
Always good food here and just found out the lunch menu is really reasonable and a large selection.
I love fresh sushi and sashimi and Origami does not disappoint. The food is fresh, tasty and not mealy.
