If you want a delicious breakfast with quality ingredients you'll find it here! Was just in to pick up take out and found the seating markedly spaced out and everyone was wearing masks. Glad to see that the staff are also wearing gloves. I had the smoked king salmon with seared polenta and it was delicious. The wait can be a bit long but honestly, if you want five minute service go to McDonald's, this place offers far better food and service and is worth the wait!
Oh my the best place ever. Every time we are in Cleveland we come to The Blue Door. Hands down you have to try...everything we’ve had...has been over the top!
Food was excellent, shocked they don’t have a kids menu but they were able to make my kid a grilled cheese that he loved. I had steak and eggs that had special twist beets and potatoes with some crunchy maple bacon bits, it was a tastebuds delight!
This cafe is easily the top brunch spot in the area. The building itself is old and the interior has a welcoming local cafe feel, but it's the quality of food that separates The Blue Door Cafe. The menu presents a large selection with rotating specials. I’ve never been so indecisive about what I wanted to order! The service was also great - the owner checked in with us throughout our meal and shared some fun stories. I would happily get brunch here every week if I could! Highly recommend!
The Blue Door is a haven for Foodies! It's all about organic, locally sourced quality over quantity, knowledgeable friendly efficient service, visions of beauty upon the plate and astonished tastebuds with occasional inadvertent moans of delight. You will greatly enjoy your stay and always have enough to eat. The hardest part is choosing what to order. This is not a rush in, gulp and go restaurant. Plan on a long wonderful dining experience.
Hands-down the best place for breakfast, brunch and lunch in the area. The food is top-notch, great coffee, fantastic bacon. Highly recommended.
Awesome! Love the hustle-bustle atmosphere on a Sunday brunch of customers coming and going! Had the monte cristo, best I've ever had! Grabbed a lemon bar from the pastry counter togo, and it was huge, fresh, and incredible! Can't wait to come back for dinner!
Another great lunch. Had lunch at Blue Door Cafe on Saturday and once again we thought lunch was great. Croissant Monsoir was delicious and my wife enjoyed her eggs
Favorite breakfast spot. I live in Cleveland Heights but my family is from Hudson. My husband and I practically make up excuses so that we can stay the night at my parent's or my in-law's so that we can go to The Blue Door Cafe. Some people have written of the crowdedness which I have not experienced because I go on Sunday mornings generally at like 8am. We even get up early so that we can go before we drive back home for church.
The croissants are CRAZY good. We had a scone last time and it was VERY sweet and very delicious. I like their hot chocolate and I like that their stuff is grass fed/local/free range. I guess (?) it is pricey, but when you are serving sustainable food it is bound to be. It is more expensive than somewhere like Perkins but it is also exponentially better so I would expect it to be.
Definitely go!
So So. The Blue Door has it's pros and cons like any other restaurant. The food is pretty good, not as great as they summarize it on Facebook though. The baked items are very good, the croissants are delicious and so are the crepes. It is extremely pricey for what you get. A cup of coffee, a glass of orange juice, crepes, croissant with jam, and a side of bacon will run you $35 for one person. The coffee is terrible, but you can't expect much from Angel Falls coffee. The restaurant is overly crowded, and I despised the douche bags I went to high school with and unfortunately they all frequent the Blue Door. Will I return? Yes. Will it be at the top of my list? No.
Deliciously out of this world!. I never thought croissants could taste so good! EVERYTHING we tried was exceptional. I've been having breakfast there for 3 days straight and tried almost every breakfast item on the menu (without meat, I dont like having meat in the morning). I've tried the crepes, french toast, grilled cheese, sticky buns, almond croissants, plain croissants, potato croquettes, baguette toast, over-hard eggs and cheese danishes. ALL items had the taste of home
Oh and an entire paragraph should be dedicated to the jam (some of you call it jelly), they make their own jam and provide them in little packets with meals, or you can purchase the packets for 50c a piece. I'm telling you the jam is something else, the texture is thick and rich, it has a lasting flavor that will make you dip your pastry into it over and over. You will definitely buy a few packets to take home with you.
The atmosphere is great, a little packed but hey thats a normal home-style diner with fine food. All the waiters that served us were very nice and energetic.
Dont miss out on the croissants, seriously. I doubt your taste buds can handle the deliciousness.
Best breakfast place...ever. I thoroughly enjoy breakfast. I also enjoy traveling. When I travel I make sure to find the best breakfast I can, wherever I go. I've had a lot of "diner" breakfast food. There are a number of places that stick out to me across a number of states. However despite all the places I've been, The Blue Door Cafe is number one in my book. Their food is beyond anything out there.
Amazing breakfast/brunch spot!. There's nothing else like this place in the area. The cafe uses many high-end, organic and local ingredients. Don't expect a greasy diner breakfast. The prices are higher but match the quality of food. There's a regular menu and several daily specials that are based on what's in season. On a recent visit I had the ricotta cheese pancakes with Ohio peaches and raspberries, toasted almonds and creme chantilly. No syrup was needed. The pancakes were decadent and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My husband ordered the Tartine (crepes with fruit, nutella, preserves and creme chantilly). We shared the potato croquette, which was so wonderful that I'm going to be adding this to every order from now on. And their Nueske's bacon is super thick and by far the best bacon I've ever had. I wish I could eat here everyday but I'd be a lot poorer and fatter!
Excellent homemade food. You can truly taste the difference.
First off, this place is for a breakfast or lunch outing. If you're looking for cheap bacon & eggs for the family, go to Bob Evans. If you're looking for incredible locally sourced imaginatively prepared food and are willing to pay for it, this is the place. Best gourmet breakfast in Akron/Cleveland hands down. Going tomorrow and can't wait, already reading the Facebook posts to see what sort of magic they have in mind!
Great place to spend a morning. The cafe has wonderful atmosphere and amazing service. The staff is very knowledgable about the menu items and are always willing to make a suggestion. It's typically a busy place but totally worth whatever wait you must endure. The specials are always changing and are well detailed on their Facebook page. Definitely a great place to eat and enjoy the local flavors.
Mmmmm. I liked this place for breakfast. I ordered the Sweet Tartines and had crepes. It was nice seeing some slightly different offerings than the usual eggs and sausage offered around here. They were delicious. I also ordered a side of the potato coquette. The server swore it didn't taste egg-y. I could taste nothing but egg (for the record I hate egg). It was also very greasy.
My boyfriend had the soup and sandwich special. The grilled cheese was delicious. The soup was good too. We both thought it was a little expensive considering how much food he actually received. He was still hungry when we left.
We noticed all the yummy pastries on the way out. Good thing we didn't see them on the way in! We will get some for carryout another time.
The new interior is really pretty and updated...or at least it will be when it's finished.
A couple options on the (breakfast) menu for non-egg eating vegetarians. Could use another, though.
Sandwich and lunch. I had lunch there last week and it was possibly the best lunch I have ever eaten! The sandwich was amazing - and the salad dressing was memorable. I will definitely be going back!!!
Amazing. I have been to this cafe several times so far. I enjoy their fresh ingredients and unique menu items. If I wanted to eat chemical and preservative-riddled food I would go to Bob Evans, Applebee's or some other crappy chain restaurant. I love that when you order a side of fresh fruit you get strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, blackberries, grapes and bananas. At the aforementioned chains, you get rotten canteloupe and a few soggy grapes. The Blue Door is more expensive than other cafes around, but you get what you pay for. I will pay more for quality food any day of the week. To those that are complaining that it's not like The Golden Goose or whatever: there are plenty of restaurants on State Road that serve cheap, greasy and mediocre food. Enjoy being like most Americans and wanting inexpensive, fake food to fill you up.
Mrs. customer. Wonderful resturant with some great unusual dishes made from scratch.
Fresh and Natural MEANS Fresh and Natural. You know you are in good company when artifical sweeteners are noticeably absent from the tables! The recipes are original and if a batch doesn't meet expectations, it is not served that day.....A little perfectionism going on here??? They make a quiche that bakes for half a day and is gone in the first two hours from opening if you are not present! Don't be late! If you get fruit or greens with your entre' , order your doggie bag at the same time-just a warning....and you won't be giving any of this amazing food to your dog either!
One of our favorite places! We are glad that it is close by and we go whenever we can. Everything is local and fresh. We do not mind paying a little bit more for quality. Love this place! Do yourself a favor and try it!
I went for the first time and had the omlette. It was cooked to perfection. I found the prices very in line for the quality of ingredients the items were prepared with. To each there own but I was pleased with the pace of our meal. I was not rushed but at the same time did not feel I was made to wait. Reading through the reviews it seems they are going through identity pains as many were expecting the golden goose part two. They do not serve egg mcmuffins pre-prepared for $3. You get a quality meal made to order with fresh high quality ingredients. As with grocery stores, there is Marcs and there is West Point. By name they offer the same items, however the quality differs vastly. As so the price reflects this. My hope is that people who can recognize and appreciate this difference will patronize this gem. I would stop going if they were forced to lower the quality to meet the demands of some reviewers. Keep up the good work. Maybe move to fairlawn and open for dinner. Lastly the ice tea was the best.
Delicious!!. This place is amazing. The best baked fruit flaky goodness ever. Had the Chorizo sausage gravy and biscuits. They stand by fresh whole foods. My daughter had crepes with assorted things to put in and on her crepe thought it would be the basic but it was varied and succulent. Try it out you will not be sorry.
Great food, Great atmosphere, Bad service. I have been here twice. The food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is small, but cozy. The managers are great, very personable, but I have had the same waitress both times and she is a disaster.
As a former waitress I am generally forgiving of servers, but this was just bad service. I feared she had forgotten about us several times. Both visits it was asked that we get something out as an appetizer, and once it came after the meal, once not at all. I had to ask for something to be heated up because it was cold, and she argued with me over it. Drinks were not filled promptly. The bill was miscalculated.
This place has a lot going for it, and I would recommend it, but they really need to get a better serving staff.
Loved it and want to go all the time. We went early on a Sunday and were seated right away. My coffee cup stayed full, we weren't rushed out, the chef was walking around and talking to everyone. The food was in my top five breakfasts, ever, and the bread was the best I have ever had in my life. We are so lucky to have this here in CF.
The food is great and very unique if you can get past the slow service.
What a Great place. The most unique breakfast place that I have ever been too. I love it that alll the food and ingredients are local! Thank you!!The Blue Door!!! Will definitely be there again and again!!! !!!!?
Great Family Friendly Cafe. The Blue Door (formally Golden Goose) is a great place to have a meal with the family! It's a nice, cheerful environment when you walk in. I love the fact that the food is always, always fresh! I work in the Food and Nutrition/ Dietetics field and have a toddler that really enjoys the food here. I love that I don't have to worry about "what's in the stuff she's eating". Foods used are not processed and all free of high fructose corn syrup. The eggs taste like nothing you buy from the grocery store- they come from a local farm ( yes, I am the parent who inquires on where all food comes from before I feed it to my kid). Homemade English muffins are to die for! French toast is the best I have ever tasted! I guess we only eat breakfast foods when we have gone, but the lunch menu looked great too. Overall, I would rate Blue Door a great "hometown" place to take the family and kids to on a weekend morning!
Mmmmmm! Absolutely top notch- fresh and delicious!
The food is creative and sumptuous. The baked goods are also completely amazing. They have high quality ingredients that you can feel good about consuming. This cafe has quickly become a weekly event for us!!
Went first to have a chocolate croissant (pain chocolat) and coffee which was excellent...as good as Paris where we lived for several years.
So pleased went back for lunch. Excellent BLT although should have requested that the bacon be crispy (excellent flavor, wonderful tomatoes) and great tomato soup. The fruit side was perfect. The grilled cheese....slice the challah thinner...too much bread which overwhelmed the great cheese....green salad side was excellent...
Two days later went for breakfast/brunch...very busy and crowded but staff did an excellent job seating and serving people (and passing out tastes of pastries made the wait less onerous)...omelet excellent along with the potatoes...chicken salad croissant superb (daughter said she didn't eat things like chicken salad, but after tasting this - light on the mayo and flavored with a hint of tarragon - said she had changed her mind). Bacon and eggs excellent as well along with the English muffin...again should have asked for the bacon to be crispy (by the way, the bacon flavor is awesome and some of us prefer bacon not cooked to a crunchy crisp)...can't wait to visit Akron again and have breakfast, lunch and snacks at The Blue Door...
Great Expectations Met. Thankfully, Greg, you have not given up because of people who have no taste for delicious food. Your menu is exciting and big city. Your crepe with lemon curd is out of this world. Your eggs are perfect and your homemade hallah the best we've ever had. We have traveled extensively, gone to the best restaurants, and your expertise in presenting quality in everything you make is unsurpassed. Our only complaint (very very minor) is that the young lady who seated us did not know what drinks you had. She listed "coke, iced tea and root beer", not saying a word about the fact that your products are delicious and organic. For those of you who find fault with this little gem of a restaurant, a new one has opened up down the street that is like everything else in this area - tasteless and inedible. Please go there next time and leave the seating at the Blue Door for those of us who can appreciate true perfection of culinary talent. Thanks for renewing our faith in being able to find a meal in Ohio that is really outstanding.
Quiches, crepes, and pastries are truly outstanding. Danishes are a steal for the quality. Love having such a high quality place in the neighborhood.
...we love that their menu has a European flair – crepes suzette, raspberry almond pancakes, sausage and feta frittata, mussels & frites, a BLT on homemade croissant, etc. And wouldn’t you know – their kitchen staff all has chefs’ training.
Seemingly out of nowhere sprung a bustling little breakfast/lunch cafe and bakery that Since it is slightly out of the way for us, we end up stopping in late on a Sunday morning, after developing a laundry list of (mostly imaginary) things we MUST accomplish in Akron. And of course, they are PACKED. Fortunately with only two of us (we opt to roll kid-free on this excursion) there is rarely a wait. This level of culinary intensity is so unique for this area, it’s a miracle we can even get a table. Since I’ve waited so inexcusably long to share with you, I have accumulated far too many food fotos. But before getting to the eye candy, might I share a few reasons why Blue Door is a real success here in Northeast Ohio. First and foremost, these people know f
...Homemade in their bakery, it was by far the best english muffin I have ever had. Full of taste, large size, and great toasted texture.
I was drawn to the Croissant Monsieur ($10), and I added an egg. It was basically a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, but oh so good. That flaky croissant was clearly the star. The fruit was also very fresh, and much better than what you typically receive for a side of
On the road for a weekend trip, my family and I stopped in Cuyahoga Falls to track down the Blue Door. And find it we did: a one-story gray, nondescript little building with a jam-packed parking lot and, yes, a bright blue door. As the full parking lot hinted, the inside was busy with customers in line for the bakery or waiting for tables in the cafe. We were seated pretty quickly at a table near the door (which got breezy on a surprisingly chilly May d
When I heard that the local diner, Golden Goose Restaurant and Bakery , was closing down for several weeks for remodeling, I was a little surprised. When I finally came to understand that the remodel was due in no small part to head baker Michael Bruno and his wife taking over the entire operation of the establishment, both bakery and restaurant, then it became a little more understandable. For several weeks, Michael would send out updates via Facebook about the progress of the remodel. When it finally came time to open back up for business, he announced that in the Golden Goose's ashes would rise a new restaurant and bakery, Blue Door Bakery and Cafe . While I have covered Golden Goose during numerous visits , I couldn't help but think that once Michael controlled the restaurant's kitchen, he could apply the same level of exacting thought that he put into his baked goods. This definitely had me excited. In order to help him out, he brought in Valerie Miller and Tim Carson to help him
