Other than having to add my own condiments at the bar, this is a decent old fashioned burger.
I ordered the bacon burger with fried egg: buns were very fresh this late in the day, the patty was cooked well, Bacon was crispy, egg over cooked the yolk was dry. Also the meat to bun ratio for be did not work well, next time I’m going for the double patty or just add chili instead of the fried egg.
Nice and divey on the inside.
Fun, family friendly burger spot with a lot of personality. Owners are seeing generation; friendly and welcoming.
Burgers are good. Fries a bit soggy. Scenery great.
Overall - good burger, good people, good deal.
After moved to Dallas, this is the only place I have tasted the best Onion Rings!!! They are sooo crispy & delicious. If you are a great fan of meat eater, you would love this place. Best service and neat packing. I love their interior work. One of my best nearby place to hangout.
I had been to a nearby store, so I hit JG’s. It wasn’t the worst burger around, but it wasn’t nearly the best, either. I had the single cheeseburger, with a side of onion rings. The rings first. I don’t know they were cut and breaded there, they were very uniform, and had little flavor. The burger was OK. It was a small patty on a big bun. One thing that was nice, a big bar to dress your burger. I used mayo; that was all I needed. Oh, and some pickles. Regardless, the burger had little texture and not much beef flavor. I sorta think I should have had a double.
Some of the best burgers in the city. The buns are nicely toasted and there is a bar for adding your condiments and toppings. I particularly like it because they have nice thick slices of onion rather the minced up bits most places have. The fries are freshly made and also awesome. In my opinion this place tops all of the fancy trendy burger places recently opened
New in town and looking for a new favorite burger place--we found it! Love the atmosphere. Old fashioned burgers cooked just right. Self service toppings. Toasted buns--couldnt have been better. The eclectic decor is really fun and the service is friendly and top notch. Definitely worth checking out.
Great burgers and onion rings. All of the food is cooked fresh so it's hot and juicy. They only use certified angus beef so it's a high quality product. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.
Great food and laid back atmosphere. We brought our dog and ate on the patio.
Great burgers and great service!
We just drove in from Austin and saw JG's. they were just closing but the owner said we could come in anyway. At first we were going to. Get our food to go, but they let us stay and never made us feel like they were in a hurry for us to leave!
As Good As It Ever Was. As I happened to be in Dallas County I decided to go to J.G.'s for lunch. I have been there aplenty since 1987. Never had a complaint. Their Angus cheeseburger and fries were excellent and what makes it even better is their burger bar with all the fixin's: fresh tomatoes, onions, pickles and assorted condiments. The fries are fresh, not frozen. They even have a tub of fresh, unpeeled potatoes next to the burger bar, attesting to their freshness.
The restaurant has a fun, 50ish interior that I don't think has ever changed over the years. You order at the counter and when your order is ready they call you. Simple as that. Parking spots are a little narrow but if you park a couple of rows back perpendicular to Greenville Ave you will find the larger spots.
I would visit JG's much more if I lived closer, but since I don't ,I have to appreciate the times I do get to go.
Best Burger in Dallas!. JG's has been in business for a least 26 years and still has the best burger in Dallas. It's my kids' favorite place to go, my 7 year old compares every burger he has to JG's. Fun atmosphere and a great family place.
Mmmm. One of the best burger places I have been to in Dallas!
One great burger place. The food comes out quick, great decorum, good location and parking.
Best burger spot I been to in Dallas!
This has always been a favorite place of mines.
Good Surprises. Worked in the area for 14 years and watched J.G.'s expand to its current size. Was afraid it would lose its appeal, but it did not. Besides their burgers and fries, their grilled chicken sandwich is very good. Gets crowded on Fridays.
Great Burgers. For anyone from Houston, this place has burgers that come close to rivaling those at Cliff's. One of the few places left that you can order a burger medium rare and get it served just perfect EVERY TIME! Love the selection of cheeses (cheddar, bleu, swiss) and the do-it-yourself toppings bar is always full and fresh. Excellent milkshakes, fies are ok, (I prefer them skinny). Have to rate it one of the best burgers in Dallas, worth the drive even though the location that is not that convenient for me. How about opening a place in Preston Center????
JGs is excellent -- their burgers are always delicious and the toasted bun offers a break from soggy fast food buns. The condiment bar allows you to accesorize your burger just how you like it. Be sure and order a side of delicious ranch to go with the fries. While the service can be grumpy at times, it all adds to the charm. The décor and vintage feel makes JGs an instant hit. If you haven't been, you need to eat here.
It seems this old fashioned burger joint has been around for so long. For some people it's a tradition to come here.
The atmosphere is very 50s. Like with old Coke, bottles and and pictures all over the walls.
Their hamburgers are pretty good. And they have a hamburger. Bar where you can add your own condiments hurry, you're liking.
I really enjoyed it.
We went to JG Old Fashioned Burgers”. I had not seen this place so we went into the restaurant.. As soon I opened the door the atmosphere was out of the world.. I love the old signs, neon lights, it was awesome.. I got a mushroom burger w/onion rings. My wife had a bacon burger with fries. The burger was juicy and great. My wife loved it too.. the onion rings was cranking (awesome way).. I don’t give a review for 5 stars.. however this is 4.99 stars..
I've been a loyal patron of JG's Old Fashioned Hamburgers since the early 2000s, and every visit feels like a nostalgic journey through time. This iconic establishment has a special place in my heart, and it's my go-to spot whenever I'm in the mood for some mouthwatering comfort food.
One thing that has remained a constant over the years is the unbeatable quality and flavor of their burgers. While JG's is renowned for their classic hamburgers, my personal favorite has always been the Chicken Bacon Swiss burger. Let me tell you, it's a true masterpiece.
The chicken patty is perfectly seasoned and cooked to juicy perfection, while the crispy bacon adds a delightful crunch and a smoky, savory kick. The melted Swiss cheese takes things up a notch, enveloping every bite in creamy goodness. The combination of flavors and textures in this burger is sheer perfection, and it's a testament to the culinary expertise at JG's.
What I appreciate most about JG's is their commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can taste the difference in every bite. The buns are soft and toasted just right, and the toppings are always crisp and flavorful.
The atmosphere at JG's is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot to catch up with friends or simply indulge in some comfort food on your own. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall positive dining experience.
Over the years, JG's Old Fashioned Hamburgers has consistently delivered delicious, no-frills food that hits all the right notes. While many things may have changed since my first visit in the early 2000s, the exceptional quality and taste of their Chicken Bacon Swiss burger remain a constant source of delight.
If you're in the mood for a burger that's both nostalgic and utterly satisfying, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting JG's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. Whether you've been a patron for years or you're new to the scene, you're in for a treat that will keep you coming back for more.
Loved the toasted bun, however I'd advise ordering a double so you have the perfect meat to bread ratio. I loved the onion rings, for my husband it was a little too much breading. Overall I loved the vibe of the place a 9 out 10! Great spot I will be 🔙.
My husband and I had lunch here after getting my hair done and this place was amazing! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the food was so good. Can't wait to come back.
Pleased with the staff and the amount of food that was presented. Cashier was super friendly and sweet. Very welcoming and home atmosphere definitely will be returning.

Went for lunch again,... and to was delicious. I was lucky enough to try one of future items coming to the menu and y'all are going to love it.
🐥🥪 Perfection!
My team of coworkers and I went for lunch. The food was great. However, that's not the main takeaway from JG's. It's an old fashioned burger joint that's been a Dallas staple for decades.
The burgers are served old fashioned-cooked to order. There is a fresh condiment station to dress up your burger just the way you like it.
Service was fast and friendly. The establishment is clean with lots of neat decor.
*Pro Tip- the full menu is behind you when at the order counter / the "busy crowd" typically shows up from 12 to 1. / Salads are huge and delicious also and other non burger items are great also.
Super cute spot!! Very old fashioned theme with outside seating and lots of inside seating. Salad bar and burgers and much more!! Blue bell hand spun milkshakes to top it off!! We had the cheeseburger 🍔 and fries 🍟
Like others have shared, this has the feeling of a local spot that has been around a while. You order at the front and get your bun, meat, and cheese when they call your order. There is a condiments and toppings bar with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, etc. Interesting concept and offers some customization. I ended up getting the kobe beef burger which was a little more tender than the regular patty. But idk if it's worth the extra cost. Expect to spend $12-15 including tax for a burger. Fries are standard cut. Overall, a solid burger & fries place but not mindblowing. I might like The Burger Shop better.
The burger and grilled chicken sandwich were both fabulous! My daughter LOVED her strawberry shake, and the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly! Be sure to say hi to Olympia and let her know if it’s your first time here — she’s the best and will take excellent care of you! We’ll be back with the whole family soon!
