This restaurant is the real deal - authentic, delicious Malaysian food made by the chef/owner who is from Malaysia. The Malaysian classics such as char kway teow, nasi lemak, and laksa use ingredients and cooking techniques that are rooted in Malaysian cuisine. This is not a restaurant that is serving Americanized Malaysian food. The menu does have a section of Americanized Asian food such as kung pao/orange/mongolian beef/chicken etc. If you've never tried Malaysian food, this can be a good starting point. But after eating at his restaurant for years, I have become good friends with the chef/owner, and he has gradually introduced me to the beautiful and bold flavors of Malaysian cuisine.
I see a lot of recent reviews complaining about price increases and smaller portions. It is unfortunate that some changes are being made, but this is the nature of operating any restaurant during a time of rampant inflation and skyrocketing food costs. I encourage anyone who is considering eating at Secret Recipe for the first time to meet the chef/owner because his passion for what he does and the service he provides is unmatched.
Nice spot for excellent tasty Malaysia food, huge menu with lots of choices. It was a nice comforting environment and it's self serving. We will be back to try the other specialties.
I have been to this location many times but I just realized I never reviewed the place although I think I have reviewed the place in Carrollton. Whenever we travel and we are able to stop in the DFW area, we try to stop by and Plano Secret Recipe is my favorite. Food is pretty close to authentic and if Alex is around, he never fails to stop and say Hello. We love the food so much that we had lunch there and also took some home for dinner.
Tried their curry, satay, laksa, soft shelf crab, Tom Yum etc. My favorite were Chee Cheong Fun (Sweet Flat Rice Noodles) and Oyster Omelet.
So many food items to choose from with so many varieties. A place to fulfill my Asian food cravings. Will recommend.
I loved the Hainanese chicken rice. The Char kway teow was fantastic as well. I also went back to try the beef rendang which was excellent as well. Having traveled to Singapore and Malaysia many times, this is where I go to get my fix for my favorite Singaporean/Malaysian dishes. They even have my favorite curry puff snacks. The complimentary sambal (chili sauce) was nice as well. I absolutely loved the food here.
CECRET RECIPE is a restaurant that, the first time you step in, there is nothing special, difficult to impress to return. But not! Order food and wait. You will enjoy dishes with a delicious and delicious taste. The price is quite reasonable (or rather, quite cheap compared to what you enjoy from the restaurant). When you step out of the restaurant, you'll turn around and say: great job! We will be back.
Truly authentic! Goat rendang eats like it's been simmering for over a day, great flavour, great spices. Was expecting the stir fried water spinach to be a bit spicier but thats just a personal preference. We added the prepared sambal sauce that was available and that lifted the dish. Fried Indian mee has wok hei but could do without the peppers...again that might just be the way the locals like them here. You won't get that from mamak stalls in Malaysia.
This restaurant is an interesting find for us and for it to offer authentic Malaysian fare, we would highly recommend. We will definitely be back to try other dishes!
I love this place the food is always fantastic and service is great. The restaurant is always very clean and this is the only place to get real Malaysian food. Will be coming back regularly!
This place was great! The menu is a little intimidating with about 20 pages but the nasi lemak with chicken curry was amazing. Oink oink! The food was really great and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.
I ordered online and my items were ready on time. My favorite dish was the Nasi Lemak. Loved the crunchy of the peanuts and fried anchovies, spicy sambal, rich fried egg and fragrant rice.
The roasted hainanese chicken was good and would be better to eat while dinning in.
Good food and an extremely friendly staff! We are from out of town & were supposed to arrive close to closing time. When I called they told us it was no problem & they’d be waiting for us. I would definitely visit again next time I’m in town.
Amazing food, closest authentic Malaysian/Singaporeans food!! Amazing service too!! Chili Crab was amazing(had to order a day before) but worth coming back for it!!
This is a family ‘Kampong’ atmosphere restaurant. You are welcome to help yourself with the utensils, drinks, condiments and take out boxes. If you are expecting a full-service restaurant, this is place not for you.
Alex is the owner. He is friendly and treats his customers not just customers but as friends and families. Food is as close to what you can get from Malaysia while living in the Dallas Fort Worth Meteoplex. A gathering place for most Malaysians and Singaporeans for food, friendship and reminiscing the good old times. Thanks Alex for bringing our “home” to us while we are so far from home.
A nice place for dining when you missing Singaporean/Malaysian food! Reasonable prices. Attentive staff & Alex deserved mentioning as he greeted customers. Repeat visit soon!
Such good food! Huge portions, great for family style eating or leftovers. One of the only authentic Malaysian eateries in Dallas!
Special thanks to Alex for opening up your restaurant. We enjoyed the delicious food and the great service. Above all, amazing memories for Singapore National Day 2023 celebrations with Dallas friends and families
Went there to try out Nasi Lemak and Chicken Satay. Pretty authentic taste, must try if you are in the mood for some Thai/Malay.
