People that are rating do not know Jamaican food. 1. Oxtails are always fatty, it is the cut of meat. They should be trimmed, but I repeat oxtails are always fatty.
2. Rice and peas ARE red beans and rice cooked together and DO NOT....EVER contain peas
Haven't been here yet, but the reviews were ridiculous. So I'm going tomorrow and I'll update
I love the jerk chicken and cabbage!!
Best Caribbean food around! Everything on the menu is good. New location is a huge improvement. Still, go for the food, not the atmosphere.
Carribean Food in Dallas. The food is good I must say, but there are times when the food is much to greasy. Also, there are times when the use of the salt isn't spared. The cleanliness of the place is a thumbs up as well as the pleasant atmosphere. I think overall Ms. Elaine is the best cook, but her minnie me's could use more training. Just saying I can tell when & what she cook opposed someone else. I have been eatting her food since the late 80's when she started in Pleasant Grove; so yes I notice when someone cooks other than her.
Good Jamacian style ox tails...
Great food in a much better, new location. I found this place about 5 years ago and sometimes I can't stay away. Everything from jerk chicken to curry goat to kingfish, red snapper to collaloo and akee. Great food at a great price. Now in a new an spacious dinig room.
Such a gem! Great little Caribbean restaurant. Got the jerk chicken lunch special for only $7! It was delicious with the perfect level of heat. Might be a bit too spicy for some. Friends got the curry chicken and said it was also delicious and not spicy at all.
Honestly, the worst Jamaican food I’ve ever tried. The jerk chicken had a red tent to it. Not spicy at all. The rice and peas was terrible. The cabbage was okay. Will not be returning.
The oxtail tastes so good. So tender and juicy 😋
Not forgetting the jerk chicken.
Will definitely come back.
Never had a problem here my food was always hot and good very flavorful I normally always get the oxtails. And I eat here pretty often
The food is good. I see that they changed the lunch size portion . Also, prices have gone up, but quality is not as good as a few years ago. Parking is an issue they have to many abandon cars in a lot, which could be for customers.
Decent Prices and Good food. I've been here before and I'll be back.
This was my first time here. The aroma was already calling me as I walked into the restaurant. I had the curry chicken - lunch special and my sister had the oxtail. Both the curry chicken and oxtail were decent, but nothing to write home about. We ordered a side of macaroni, thinking it was the island-style baked macaroni....it's not. It was plain macaroni and cheese. Nonetheless, I'll come back and try another dish.
The vibe was neither cold nor friendly. There was a decent amount of diversity among the customers.
It's in a bit of a rough area (heck, it's on MLK Blvd), but don't let that deter you.
As I go out on my deployments, as a covid 19 travel Registered Nurse, I visit the local places of business in support of during the pandemic. Typically on my day off it's when I catch up on chores and when afforded the time I also do my part in an effort to support the local tourist industry.
But today, I am in need of a laundry day.
Although I'm downtown Dallas, I find my way over to MLK boulevard where I go over to the local laundromat. Here it's where it gets interesting.
Is early afternoon and I'm developing an appetite. I question the laundromat attendant about a nice place to go for lunch and immediately he suggests Elaine's....next door.
"What type of food?" I ask. The attendant smiles and says,"the lick your plate kind."
I walk next door, through the wrought iron fence and up to the building's front. Before I enter the wrought iron fence d area, I notice the signage out front on the tall sign post above the wrought iron fence. In faded letters it reads Elaine's, along with the flag of Jamaica... the one Usain St. Leo Bolt aka #UsainBolt help to make even more popular being the world record holder in the 100 m, 200 m, and four X 100 m relay.
I open the door to the establishment, and immediately notice the fresh smell of peppers onions and the like. I mean it smell as if grandmother is in the back cooking.
Customers are masked up as well as the workers in the kitchen. It was an open kitchen and you can actually see your meal being prepared. The front clerk was unmasked but behind a large plexiglass barrier. I glance over the menu at the counter and decide to try several items so I can take care of my hunger pains and share a detailed review.
After a careful assessment of the variety of proteins meals available, I place my order and wait for it to be prepared and packaged.
Elaine's is busy with bustling traffic of pickup orders that were called in, orders that were placed for car service pick up and folks like me, walk-ins.
I don't wait very long for the large order I made, my name is called shortly thereafter and I'm off in my Uber back to my room.
I prepare my smorgasbord of ginuwine Jamaican cuisine.
My first taste of the oxtails and one word comes to mind. AUTHENTIC! AUTHENTIC! AUTHENTIC! ... I said one word but it echoed with each taste of everything..
The rice and peas and cabbage married with those oxtails and delivers the flavors my palate has longed for since my travels to South Florida and the island herself.
The jerk wings had the perfect bite, the curry chicken as succulent as the pot liquor or gravy; whichever term you prefer.
The desserts didn't appear to be homemade, but who can mess up red velvet cake, pecan pies and sweet potato pies. Although the sweet potato pie is a little less potato-y than I'm used to. And of course a Jamaican ginger beer to wash it all down.

I had the oxtails with yams and Mac and cheese and also the jerk chicken with cabbage and rice. All were very delicious.
I felt like I was in Jamaica for a second when I walked in! The staff was very nice and i had a lot of questions and got several recommendations on things to try! It’s family friendly and spacious! I recommend the Rasta pasta!!!!
Food is really good! Prices are different online than in restaurant...Best meat pies and carrot juice I've ever had! Yams and macaroni never disappoint!
Oxtail plate yummy got to get it...been going here since I was a lil boy... Of you want some good Caribbean food gotta try Elaine's
I love Jamaican food! I had the oxtails which were so wonderful. Excellent flavor and awesome serving portions. Worth every penny. I love the lady behind the counter talking orders. She gives you that at home feeling.
As a Jamaican, I'm always on the quest to find authentic Jamaican cuisine and ordered specific items I had a craving for. I loved my dumplings, greens, and wings. I also loved being able to purchase crackers, teas, and banana chips that all made me feel like home.
This is one of my favorite Jamaican spot.
I got the curry chicken lunch special, a side of mac & cheese, with lemonade. It was DELICIOUS. Don't expect a fancy restaurant, just good family made food. I would highly recommend this spot and I will be back to try the oxtails. Support your local business! :)
Food is bomb! Love Elaine's and it never disappoints. C/s has gotten better over the years and the wait is not as bad as it used to be either. Was a great and easy experience!
