Hail Hail Hickory - Still Has It !. I have a rule, I don't review based off of past dining experiences, I only write about recent visits.
Being born and raised Dayton, OH Old Hickory (in all its varying incarnations) has long been a favorite, even before my pallet became so sophisticated. And I finally had the chance to eat there again, it had been a while.

Very simple. Slab of Ribs and double house salad (in lieu of a salad and vegetable/potato). If you like salad, you will love this - double it up! Very simple, lettuce mix and the most heavenly garlic vinaigrette dressing. No onions, tomato, croutons, etc...the dressing is the STAR, so let it shine brother! Oh yeah, you can buy pints of the dressing to take home too.
If you're a ribs snob, don't go there expecting Memphis style, Carolina style, Texas or KC style. These are simple broiled ribs. You can actually see them through the front window slowly turning on a rotisserie skewered against an open gas flame.
Old Hick is NOT a fancy joint. The decor has been updated a bit, but it's a very simple and basic restaurant. It's a small neighborhood place that has been there for years and has had the same menu from day 1. Dare I say an institution?
If you're in the Dayton area, it's one of the "must eat at places".

VERY UNDERRATED RESTAURANT! GREAT FOOD. I have been going here since I was an INFANT! This place is great. Doesn't seem like much from the outside, but after a whole-slab rib dinner with a house salad and shrimp cocktail, you will RANT and RAVE about this place. The atmosphere is casual, menu consists of steaks, ribs, chicken dinners etc. The house salad dressing is AMAZING. Overall a very very underrated restaurant in Dayton. Best of all, the menu is priced very moderately! A+
