Arrived on a Friday at 1PM and there were only a few people in the place. It is in an older strip shopping center. My first though was uh-oh, where are the people. Ordered a lean sliced brisket sandwich, and it was exactly that, they had trimmed the fat and put a massive amount on a large bun. There was still some bark and smoke ring. The job they did on the smoke was excellent, these people know how to smoke meat. Their sauce, also was excellent, and you really didn't need much as the brisket was moist, it had been off the smoker that magical amount of time that makes it just as it should be. Good selection of sides, and they also fries, which is pretty uncommon at most true BBQ places. Fries were a battered, also great. Casual place, nice people and terrific BBQ. Don't understand why it wasn't packed, unless most people have lunch earlier.
If you are traveling through Denton it isn't that far off I-35, and easy to get in and out. It is definitely a place you want to stop if you like real smoked brisket. Also make sure you try their sauce, wish they sold it to take home.
Pretty darn good bbq. I went in with zero expectations, and have to say, it was better than some places here In denton. I had the ribs and they were pretty good. My hubs had the sausage, and I didn't care for that but he liked it. The okra was delish.
The ribs are spot on. The sauce is great. The only sides to get are the beans and okra. We tried the coleslaw and it was flavorless. The potato salad and mac cheese were marginal.
This was our first trip to Bet The House. The brisket and pulled pork were both very good. The sauce is very good. Would have liked to try the pork ribs but they were sold out. Nice friendly casual atmosphere. We will be back.
Do NOT Drive to Lockhart!! Save the Gas!. Bet The House BBQ is hands down the very best Q I've ever had north of Lockhart/Luling. It's a relatively new place so it may not be familiar to many. Located just south of the square in downtown Denton, Bet The House absolutely slays any of the competition in North Texas. And believe me, I've tried most of them. This place is just plain GREAT! The sliced brisket is my go-to meal. It is always generously cut and comes with a very pleasing smokey flavor and a very tasty thick bark. The brisket is so perfectly flavored, I'll very seldom add sauce to my plate. Oh, I'll always grab a bottle but it generally sits on the table unused. I'll occasionally splurge and get a couple of pork ribs. The regular ribs are superb as are the spicy ribs which are available frequently. Last Friday I got a beef rib. OMG! It was wonderful!! The sides are well prepared and a great compliment to the Q.
I'm here for lunch at least a couple of times a week.
WARNING: Like the better places down south, when they sell out, they close. Do not be disappointed (like I was once) by getting there too late and finding a Sold Out sign in the window. No complaints about this though. One is always assured of getting on the best and freshest Q.
My advice? GO THERE. Frequently!
The brisket is definitely up there with the top 50 in Texas.. Some of the best I've ever had. I know BBQ & I know how to eat it. These boys here know exactly how to smoke it. I could definitely eat there everyday.
This isn't the fanciest restaurant, but the great BBQ places never are. Food was amazing and cooked to perfection. We got a sample of about everything and it was all just right. If it isn't already, this should be your go to BBQ place.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Spicy sauce tastes a bit of vinegar or Tabasco which is interesting and tasty but probably a little much if you're getting the jalapeno cheddar sausage (which you should get). Sliced brisket melts like butter, and the smoked mac and cheese is fantastic.
Had an OUTSTANDING lunch at Bet The House BBQ! Excellent brisket and sausage! DELICIOUS and unique Cole slaw and potato salad!
Awesome bbq in denton. Great brisket and sausage. Love the sauce.
Ribs were very good, brisket ok and turkey ok. didn't care for the potato salad or mac n cheese though.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this BBQ place tucked away in a shopping center, I had a chopped brisket sandwich and the Mac and cheese, The brisket was perfection, nice bark, moist and just wonderful. The Mac and cheese was great and really large enough for two. I have to say I’m excited to try the rest of the BBQ, the ribs looked great, and they did make their own sausage as well. The sauces were excellent. This BBQ is great.
Service has been great each time! The food was a bit mixed. While BBQ in Texas will always have its differing opinions, here is mine:
The ribs are fantastic and the brisket is really is good. On my first trip there, I really enjoyed the sausage.
The spicy sauce is a bit of a disappointment - it is runny BBQ sauce with some Tabasco mixed in. The sauce could probably use a bit of an overhaul. The best I've had was Green Mesquites in Austin, TX. I suggest the owner check it out for some tips, make it your own tho.
The Mac and Cheese was a bit bland. It could use some cheesiness. The Fried Okra was good; however, I would find a recipe that uses batter that becomes more crispy.
I would definitely recommend you pick up any of their meats - that seems to be their speciality.
Jalapeno cheese sausage was the bomb. Potato salad was scratch made and probably the best I have had from a restaurant. The brisket was nicely smoked but a little fatty for my taste. Overall four star visit. I look forward to my next visit.
