Our favorite place for craft cocktails. The ambiance, the talented people that work there and create masterful drinks. It's always something new. Highly recommend.
I have been to the green russel many times since its opening and have always appreciated the well made drinks and there selection of foods.... Most recenty, after a long jewellery photo shoot in the cold, my four ladies and I came here for cocktails and to warm up. We got a table in the back corner and the setting was just too perfect to not snap a few more jewellery shots. The staff and owner were more than accommodating with us taking some photos and were so kind as to serve us each a glass of Kava on the house... I do love the Green Russell!
In a long career in bars, pubs, saloons, and lounges across the globe, I have been in few places that surpass the Green Russell in terms of ambience, a creative drinks menu, and a welcoming, knowledgeable staff. The negative reviews are quite unfair. The place is relatively small, and it is obviously not set up to accommodate large groups. I find it difficult to believe the staff was rude to anyone. Perhaps some define rudeness as an inability to meet unreasonable expectations. My wife and I had a wonderful time last night and hope to return.
The food was exceptional. The waiter was friendly and very considerate of the fact that we had a reservation for a show after dinner and he made it a point to serve us dinner quickly.
We popped by the GR during a visit to Denver and I absolutely fell in love. The vibe is lovely and the service was outstanding. Despite being busy, our bartender treated us like we were his most important guests of the night. After giving him a list of my drink likes, he proceeded to delight me with two different "Bartenders Choice" signature creations that couldn't have been any more spot on. Highly recommend -- and looking forward to a return visit next time I'm in Denver.
Absolutely the best bar ever. Great service staff, amazing drinks. Great ambiance. I will be back the next time I am in Denver.
True speakeasy style. Love the small group rule to keep the atmosphere as it should be. Authentic cocktails.
Love the personality of this bar. Custom drinks are worth the short wait.
Very, very sexy, authentic place! One of the best kept secrets!
Went on a Friday night around 9pm. Was packed. Corn bread stole the show here. Cocktails were super pricey, wine was reasonable and delicious. They have an odd policy that you can’t order food if you’re at the front bar area…(why?) So we waited to be seated in the back. Service was friendly but slow. At one point the bartenders put on a random fire show blowing flames out of there mouth. That gained them another star :) Ambiance was great. The farther back you go, the better in atmosphere. There’s a random telephone booth that just adds to the mystique. My date got the BLT bites that were missing the ‘L’, he still seemed to enjoy them. Being a vegan, I was not impressed, but that’s another review not for here….
Totally funky speakeasy hidden away down some stairs off Larimer Square. They have excellent bar food, like smoked Mac and Cheese and these super rich but tasty pretzel cheese curd things! Everyone I was with ordered off the cocktail menu. They have all the usual suspects, old style and new style. They also offer their own seasonal creations. The best of those was the Spring Voyage, made with gin, green chartreuse, vermouth, liquor 42, shiso, lemon grass, and a lime leaf. It was herbal and funky, and delicious. I had a corpse reviver 2. They not only knew what it was, but they made a perfect one.
I really do love craft cocktails, and this place is great. A special shout out to the hostess. She was amazing. I asked her if this was where the speakeasy was, and she said "I don't know. Is it?" She was charming and witty! And full of interesting old Denver stories.
This is a must-try place. Have fun looking for it!
Green Russell is under Latimer Street and often has a wait for a table or bar seat. The wait is well worth it. The drinks and service are both incredible. Even if you don't like the cocktails (or mocktail) on the menu, the bartender will make you something custom if you share the spirit and flavors you like. In June we visited in celebration of my mom who passed away 12 years ago. When we mentioned it would have been her birthday, they made me her favorite drink and wrote her name on the top of the drink. Just incredible and a moment I'll never forget.
We had never been here but love speakeasy's and I can't begin to say enough for the quality of staff, drinks, and atmosphere. This place has it all. We just recently heard that this place will be closing permanently because of a Developer for the Larimer square area changing that space. What a loss this will be an really can't imagine going back to Larimer square for anything else. You must stop by before this happens. It is an experience you will not want to miss out on. Thanks to the amazing staff. You really made out night of celebration that much more amazing.
I stopped in for a cocktail on my way to the airport. The atmosphere was swanky and amazing. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about cocktails. I had the fruit basket it was very refreshing. My only nit pick was that the drinks were a little pricey, I paid 20 dollars for one drink.
When I first visited denver, this was such a cool place that blew me out of the water! This visit (5 years later) was lack luster. The main reason is the service staff were pretty rude. Just because we hadn’t been there before, doesnt mean you have make us feel like we need to know all of the rules by memory. We had a friend arrive late (because life happened?) and she had the hardest time getting past, what should be considered body guards, the front desk. Show a little grace, won’t you?
The meat plate was bountiful with meats and cheese, the sliders were giant, and we got a version of bacon wrapped dates. There may have been one healthy, green thing on the menu, but Kaitlyn all protein and potatoes
There are other speakeasies with friendly staff that I’d rather go to
Found this place by accident and it's in my favourites list now! This is a speakeasy from the prohibition era and is kept as is - very different vibe from what I've see at most other bars! Dim lit ambience with comfortable seating. Staff was super friendly and nice.
I got the Clover club and husband got the penicillin - both so good. We also got the brisket biscuits - very buttery and the brisket was well smoked and flavory! They also have a smokehouse next door and the food comes from the same kitchen- definitely want to try the bbq place.
All in all - great experience and I absolutely recommend! Coming back soon :)
The beautiful one of a kind experience you will gain underground in this lair of fascinating drinks and food, Can be called the historic heart of Denver. Delphinia is a goddess that delivers amazing service and knowledge
Hands down best speakeasy spot we’ve ever been at. Super attentive and creative bar attendants. Jake was awesome and created some of the best drinks we’ve ever had. Super affordable prices, delicious food and super friendly staff. We’re definitely coming back for more.
Good barbeque with two great atmospheres and super friendly wait staff.
I've walked by many times but before today have never made it inside. Host was chatty in the best sort of way and offered me a seat on the "steakhouse" side while I waited for availability in the "speakeasy." I opted for the brisket sandwich with tallow fries and a draft beer. While the fries could have been less seasoned, the tallow sweetness still shone through. I have no complaints about the brisket; it was perfect. Their sauces were similarly on point.
After my meal, a table opened up on the dimly lit side, where I described my typical drinks to an attentive bartender. He delivered a 6 ingredient smoked drink with a twist of orange that definitely satisfied.
Great experience overall. I will definitely visit again soon.
What a wonderful night out. The Green Russell is a pre-prohibition-style speakeasy with impeccable cocktails and rustic decor reminiscent of the gold rush era.
We went on a Wednesday evening at 6pm and approached the host desk outside in Larimer Square. We were informed there are no reservations and our entire party would need to be present before being seated. We waited just a moment for remaining members to arrive before heading down the stairs and into the waiting room.
A friendly, smiling staff member explained the Green Russell experience to the first-time-visitors in our party. Next, we were led into the dimly lit speakeasy and to a set of comfortable chairs in the back surrounding a candle-lit table. The speakeasy was maybe half capacity at very most. The staff are knowledgeable of the menu and go the extra step for patrons. We told the waiter we were going to be leaving eventually for a show at Comedy Works and he was really awesome about helping us properly manage our time there.
My girlfriend and our one friend both ordered the Spirits of Mexico, which was a tequila flight for tasting. It actually had Raicilla which was their deciding factor since it is not the most commonly found spirit here in the states. They even ordered another shot of Raicilla later.
I ordered the Aprithot specialty cocktail which had courvoisier vs. cognac, apricot liqueur, lemon, pineapple, and angostura bitters.
The other member of our party ordered the Jungle Bird which is made with denizen vatted dark rum, pineapple, Campari, lime and crushed ice.
Our table also split the pretzel bites which were cooked to perfection with a very tasty brown ale mustard.
All of the drinks and snacks were delicious. Overall, we had an enjoyable and memorable night out at the Green Russell. We will definitely be returning. Thanks!
A wonderfully delightful and one of the more authentic speakeasies I've been to! Service was wonderful and the drinks were perfectly crafted. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the added 22% CHP fee, but it's a small price to pay for the overall experience, in my opinion. Will definitely come back if I find myself back in Denver!
Super dope and romantic place to take a date. Must go downstairs to the speak easy portion. There are two restaurants in this place the smoke house BBQ and the actual seak easy style bar in lower level. Great lighting and atmosphere. The cocktails are done very well both professional bartenders!
Such an awesome cocktail bar! Our waitress was super knowledgeable about the drinks. A great spot for date night or meeting up with a small group of friends. It’s also the only place I’ve seen where there are as many non alcoholic cocktails as there are alcoholic ones - so cool!
The secretive and unique location set this place off. It is considered a speakeasy but there is also a sign outside sooo. Lemongrass highball was a locals favorite so we had to try it. Very good. We went on a Thursday night and the place was busy. They also had a festival going on this weekend. To actually get in there is no special word.
The Green Russel is a hidden gem, walk down stairs and through a back room into a very legitimate feeling speakeasy with mixologists mixing up some of the best craft cocktails I have had in a very long time... Each drink is made by hand to order and you can expect the production to take a few minutes per drink. Amazing find!
Green Russell is the coolest speakeasy we have found in Denver, Colorado. Underground, old school furniture, bartenders step into their roles and master crafters of the cocktails. For an extra experience we watched them make their own square cubes from a big block of ice.
I had a lovely time at this low-lit speakeasy. Solid cocktails and personalized service. My Junglebird was an amazing tiki-style cocktail!
Super awesome prohibition era vibe! Cocktails were amazing and the staff will recommend you drinks based on your preferences! Small bites were also very well done. The dim lighting just adds to its ambience and environment. Hidden behind a pie shop which was quite awesome!
