Had a fantastic meal out on the patio!Grilled octopus was nicely prepared and chips and salsa were fresh. Shared the enchiladas suizas and taco special (crab) and wanted to lick the plates! Highly recommend having dinner here. Service was perfect!
This is the type of place you bring people, knowing they will be impressed, but you can downplay it as "just" a local neighborhood spot.
Everything is impeccable. The margaritas were great. We tried the short rib enchiladas and wisdom chicken- both of which we went back for 2 days later. My friend ordered the mushroom tacos which hadn't appealed to me, but they were delicious! They have a rich, umami flavor and I highly recommend!
The service is also fantastic-everyone is super friendly and the atmosphere is fun and familiar. Trust me, you'll love it.
We had dinner here and liked it so much we went back for brunch two days later! The menu is not extensive, but selective, with many dishes having an Oaxacan flavor. The Desayuno Relleno was fantastic! A perfectly piquant poblano stuffed with eggs, corn, choriizo, Oaxacan cheese, and winter squash. The dinner dishes we had were wonderful -- The scallops were served with an almond mole (sorry, can't find an accented e here) that was just the right degree of spiciness! We will be frequent diners here.
margaritas were delicious, tequila flight was yummy, and food was superb. It's a limited yet amazing menu for a foodie to enjoy every bite! I also love that it has a nice neighborhood feel
The best margarita salt, they mix spices and sugar with the salt.
We were 7 for brunch the food wears excellent as was the service highly recommend
Had the short rib taco, chips and guac, and a couple margs...was delicious. Highly recommend. Great happy hour as well, which we needed in Sunny. Thanks Guys!
Great meal, great service. The mushroom taco was spectacular.
Awesome fresh eats. Kitchen/fridge completely open and transparent. Corn tortillas are made in house and some of the best I've ever had.
Get the brisket enchiladas!
The food was awesome and the drinks were definitely good I'll definitely be back there again had a great time for my niece birthday.
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The chicharonnes were outstanding and the tacos both interesting and tasty. Will definitely go back for more.

I had 3 delicious & very unique street tacos & an excellent Margarita. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his kale Caesar salad w/chicken.
The ambiance! The Food! The Margaritas! Everything was great! Really enjoying this soon to be cornerstone restaurant in the up and coming Sunnyside neighborhood!
Yum! From the moment we opened the door until we left the staff was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and open to help pick items to try. Drinks were delicious. Well crafted, nicely balanced. Food was really good. If we lived in denver this would be on a weekly rotation.
Thrilled to find delicious Mexican food in Denver. Farm to table no less! We loved everything we tried and our waiter was fantastic and made the experience even more fun.
Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the queso birra tacos or the mole enchiladas. The strawberry horchata was the best drink ever. We ordered a banana split (amazing) & our sever gave us a key lime pie on the house, which was also delicious and very kind of him! Great atmosphere & amazing service all around. Absolutely recommend trying this place, will definitely be returning!
Ordered the enchiladas, which I thought were great but my partner didn’t like at all. We also got the quesadilla and queso. We had ordered street corn but never received it and wasn’t on the bill. Overall the food was good
And I’ll definitely be coming back.
Staff is top notch!!! But the food is on it's own level of deliciousness. Very cool vibe and they had the best music playing. If you are looking for a hip with delicious food and great service then you definitely need to stop here. This was our first time, but definitely not the last. Thank you to the service staff and a very big thank you to the chefs cooking thus delicious food. Returning customers we are!!!! Until the next time very soon cheers !!!
Amazing food and service! The elote and vegetable quesadilla were my fav!
Farm To Table done right. This Mexican cuisine is super fresh and tastes amazing. From the margaritas that have a multitude of fresh flavors. To the Crab Nachos and Beer Battered Fish Tacos that taste like it was caught yesterday. Everything here hits the spot.
The tacos are the name of the game. From Vegetarian options like their Mushroom Tacos to their Barbacoa Tacos, all of them hit the spot. Check them out for an amazing taco Tuesday deal to get a cheap taste of the menu!
I hear brunch hits the spot too!
I am not sure what it was about El Jefe that made me feel safe, but I walked in and asked for a booth, to mitigate the chaos, and marched my two toddlers, throwing up hands as guard rails, behind the host to our table. The hungry grumpy monsters loved the food and the atmosphere was active enough to keep us all comfortable and entertained. Highly recommend to anyone but definitely to any parents who want to go out for a family meal but need to feel like a real adult person.
I went in for happy hour the other night and boy was it good! My husband and I both had margaritas- just the right amount of salt, no or almost no sweet and sour…good enough that we both had a second even though we’d only intended to have one. I really liked their chips. They’re thicker than the normal variety and taste house made. The guacamole was yummy and fresh, but we both really enjoyed the queso dip- seriously, I’ve been thinking about it all week. We also ordered the chicken fajita tacos- flavorful without being spicy (important when you e got a 2 year old in tow) and the veggie farm tacos, which were a little spicy, but were such a great combination of beans and veggies that I didn’t mind the spice since it meant I didn’t have to share!!
We’ll definitely be back for happy hour soon. I’d also really like to make it for brunch sometime as their brunch menu looks delicious!
Mo and I did a dine in for dinner last night and yes make a reservation in advance as El Jefe isn’t super big.
Appetizer wise we ordered the Guac w Cojita Cheese ($2 extra) along with the Salsa Trio which was Salsa roja, xni-pec and salsa verde. The chips were def made in house and had the right amount of salt. All salsas were tasty!
Then I ordered the QUESABIRRIA which was their Slow cooked marinated beef in 3 folded corn tortillas with melted asadero cheese. Avocado salsa on top. Served with a side of consomé with onions and cilantro (au jus) for dipping. This alone was worth coming here because this was the least greasiest Quesabirria I’ve ever had! It was so good I ate all 3!
On Tuesdays, they have select Tacos @ $2 a piece which is a fair deal.
For dessert we did their MEX-KEY LIME PIE which was made with a Graham cracker crust, Mexican key lime custard, caramelized pumpkin seeds + whipped cream. It was great but I would get it next time without the seeds. No need for that.
They get one less star because the 2 types of Tequila I asked for they didn’t have. So I settled for one that was mediocre and so much that I didn’t finish my drink.
The service was good and the food came out quickly. It’s a nice date or friends night out spot!
This place was wonderful - we were able to get in on a Friday night, and the staff were so welcoming and attentive. Guac was great, entrees were well prepared, and the drink recommended by our waiter was very good. A nice hidden gem!
I hosted a holiday party here and the experience was excellent from beginning to end. Jesse, the GM, was responsive, helpful, and went above and beyond. He was able to accommodate multiple food allergies while still serving delicious tacos, salsas, and churros. Thank you, Jesse!
Not your usual Tex-Mex. Interesting, eclectic setting with outdoor seating available. Great, unique food choices. My party of four visited on taco Tuesday for two dollar tacos. Highly recommend.
We had breakfast and it was good, nothing to write home about. The queso with chorizo was the best thing i ate. I could have poured it over my eggs, and it would've been even better. Service was great, and our waiter was very sweet.
Wow! The hospitality giving by Jessie and Mike at the bar was memorable. The recommendations were right on point. Breakfast burrito, chilaquiles con huevos, and the French toast stuffed with plantains were all really really good. I asked for house hot sauces and OMG they should be bottling them. Ty Jessie
Delectable fresh dishes crafted with a sense of tradition yet infused with a youthful flair appealing to a modern complex palette. The grilled octopus was divine and is not to be missed! Their mole is outstanding, made fresh with a perfect amount of extra heat. The ambiance was hip and modern and the service impeccable. 5 stars. Can’t wait to return!
The food was fresh and delicious, with a citrusy dressing on the salad and everything spiced just right! The service was excellent, a little slow to start, but the food came out quickly and the bottomless drinks never stopped! Super chill atmosphere and they were able to accommodate us as walkins. There’s an outdoor patio but I’m not sure if it’s dog friendly, so I’ll have to come back and find out!
My husband and I are regulars at El Jefe. The wait staff is so friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. My favorite right now is the "winter salad" with sweet potato, arugula, pumpkin seeds and prosciutto.Other faves are the chicken and plantain quesadilla, the tortilla soup, and the mole is fabulous! El Jefe is a Sunnyside treasure!
Great night out at El Jefe. Jesse was a fantastic waiter making perfect recommendations of the Mole and quesabirria. Margarita and Paloma hit the spot as well. We'll definitely be back!
