I have been stopping by this place from time to time over the past 11 years I have worked downtown. Nothing beats the fresh baked smell of cookies! I love the atmosphere and the owner is always super friendly. Expect to walk in, choose your bag of three cookies, put your cash in the milk jug and walk out. The trick is making the cookies last until you get back to the office.
The best little cookie shop that has probably ever existed. I was so overjoyed when it reopened and although the price has changed, I still feel like you get a lot of bang for your 2 bucks. This is a cash (and apparently Venmo) only establishment and honestly I love that they work on the honor system. It is really refreshing to have a small little business running on that model still in a rapidly changing Downtown Denver. If your problem with this place is that they don't take a card, you really need to check your privilege....
I recommend the cupcakes and the peanut butter cookies but honestly there is something for everyone and I've never disliked something I have had here.
1st visit today, wow, what a nice find. I tried 4 different cookies, actually really liked the basic short-bread the best. The owner gal was cool & funny and was explaining how she is continuing the tradition of the business from her late Aunt (I read the newspaper piece framed on the wall).
The small shop is ran by a single woman who makes the cookies from start to finish in her shop. Everything has that home-made taste and warm center. She always has many different types of cookies, brownies and other sweet treats. I find myself going back there far too often. If you're ever in the area, you have to stop by. All these other reviews are not wrong.
I'm writing this both as a notice to others (the store is currently closed and will re-open on October 2nd, 2017) and a tribute to a truly amazing woman. The woman who used to run this bakery passed away and her daughter (I believe) will be re-opening the shop.
I've worked downtown for over a year and half and visited her at least weekly. Truly a gift to the world and I'm happy to hear the store will reopen soon. Rest in Peace.
I had heard rumors since I started working in Downtown Denver, of the infamous “Cookie Lady”. Without much to go on, my mind ran rampant and likened her to the “Soup Nazi” of Seinfeld fame. So one day, when I smelled the most delicious fresh-baked-goods scent wafting through the air, I followed it down to the Santa Fe Cookie Company. But alas, that first visit was for nought. She was out of cookies! I nervously waited around, watching the woman make cookies for a bit, but then chickened out and left.
A few weeks later, I looked up “The Cookie Lady” and read about her easy system. Cash only, $1 for 3 cookies (or if you are lucky $1 for 2 small cupcakes or brownies!) You put bills in the milk jug, and change on the counter. Armed with this additional knowledge I went back again, this time thankfully she wasn’t sold out!
But I was still nervous, and when she saw me standing there too long, she explained the system to me. I realized she was not “Soup Nazi” material and calmly picked out a few different things…and then prompt dropped the coins in the milk jug. “Oh no!” I thought and then ran out of the store….yeah I’m a spaz.
Thankfully I’ve become a pro at getting cookies from the Cookie Lady, and my favorites are her carrot cake cupcakes, and her peanut butter cookies! Be sure to check it out!
We love the Santa Fe Cookie Company! We frequented Debbies shop before she passed away. She even did all the desserts for our wedding. Debbies niece has taken over, and she is doing a great job using lots of Debbies original recipes while adding some of her own. You won’t be disappointed! Try it out!
So good I went back five minutes later and again the next day. Always fresh and mostly warm, these cookies have a crispy outside and gooey inside, just the way you'd expect a great cookie to be. Unbeatable price and an even better treat!
*I had to update my review to pay my respects to this amazing woman. I will genuinely miss her and the days she helped me get through with her conversation, smooth jazz in the background and delicious treats.* I love the "cookie lady!" She's just as sweet as her cookies and her deserts.
The best fresh baked cookies in all of Denver! Convenient location if you are visiting 16th street mall or work downtown. Grab a dozen to take to your next meeting! Cash only
Alexis and Santa Fe Cookie Company are awesome! I take these cookies to my clients and prospects and they absolutely LOVE them! Thank you for reopening and sharing your aunt's cookies!
In from out of town and visited based on the recommendations of other reviews here. Really cool shop and friendly, helpful owner. Looking forward to bringing these treats to a client!
Also, if you're like me and not familiar with the area, note that the store is downstairs in an office plaza mall.
This place is so fun. One of those simple pleasures that breaks up the monotony of the 9-5. Walk in one door, grab whatever cookies or goodies you like, drop your cash in the jug, and walk out the other end. It makes you feel like you're a part of some sort of clandestine confection mob and you couldn't be happier to be in on the job.
Love this little cookie shop! It smells delightful and the cookies taste amazing! 3 for $2 is a steal for downtown prices!
We needed a lot of cookies quickly for a company event during GABF and you came through. The cookies were warm, yummy, and a big hit with our guests!
Excellent!! Amazing cookies and I love the fact that there is an honor system in paying-- use to be like that in many places around the world. It was nice to see faith in humanity ☺️ cookies are awesome though!
There's a reason it only gets 5 star reviews; these are very good cookies. They're the best non-homemade I've ever had.
Incredibly simply and delicious! Walk in,grab a bag, and drop your cash
The best cookies I've had downtown, no question.
