Wonderful bookstore. Great children's section, a huge selection of moderately priced used books in the basement, and a chill and relaxed atmosphere. And being one who reads exclusively non-fiction, they have a great selection of history/political/biographies. The attached café has the usual lattes and coffees and such. We could have been there for hours, but our toddler lost her patience after a while. 🙂
I’ve been told this is a shade less cool than the original main location, but it is lovely and I had a nice time. Good selection of books out, plus a good amount of pre-owned and sale books. It felt a little hollow in spots but someone was saying this was an old theater which could account for that feeling. I got a drink at the cafe and enjoyed looking at the author pictures on the wall. We parked down the road but I read that they validate parking.
Felt a little empty? Both in terms of book stock and giftables. No tshirts bigger than a medium? Would have liked to have gotten some souvenirs but everything looked very sold down. Appreciated the Pride book displays. Enjoyed our drinks from the cafe. Staff were nice and attentive.
They validate parking
I’ve been to some of the other Tattered Cover locations, but this was my first visit to their Head Quarters.
This Tattered Cover is amazing, the variety of books offered and the sheer volume of books. This location also has a coffee shop.
I had just had physical therapy and was in pain. Otherwise, I would have spent even more time exploring and going down stairs.
I highly recommend visiting this independently owned bookstore.
The bookstore has a parking lot, some 2-hour spaces along the side, and metered parking in front.
The tattered cover bookstore has been an icon of warmth, fun, reading and shelves of books. It is the finest bookstore between here and California. Its staff are smart and helpful. You can order or find any book in the world. I have enjoyed many afternoons and evenings at the TC. Their little bistro is also a gem. And of course it is right next door to a fine movie theater and twist and shout, the icon of vinyl, music, and movies.
I love this place!
Easily one of the best bookstores I’ve ever visited. The space is a former theatre, and you can see interesting remnants of the rigging or imagine the grand entrance in the lobby with the sweeping staircase to the basement. Lots of nooks, displays, and sitting areas. Hit the basement for a great selection of used and bargain books plus local authors.
This is a lovely bookstore and cafe, and this place is a gem! The employees are nice, and the store is quite large. I was happy to find plenty of books I liked! There was a large section of books for kids and cute sketchbooks for artists, too.
Tattered Cover is amazing! I might be biased since I'm a reader and writer. You'll have to go for yourself and see what all the fuss is about. The staff is so helpful and the selection of books is extensive. My son and I spent a few hours here and it felt like 5 minutes.
I wish this store had a location in Chicago! Thanks so much for the massive book haul, the educated staff, the spooky stories, and the amazing atmosphere. 👏 If I'm ever back in the area, I'll be stopping by again.
This was a great bookstore! We got a Colorado children's book to read and remember our vacation to Denver! The staff was very friendly and helpful!
I am a fan of independent book stores. I like Tattered Cover because of that but also the Colfax location is in a renovated old theater. If look around, you can spot lighting fixtures and other remnants of the theater. Stand on the old stage and imagine performing to an audience. The building is cool and book stores are worth supporting, so I recommend checking it out!
