Tried Island Rise & Shine for the first time today. It's really hard to find a good place for breakfast these days, even Bangor where there are a plethora of places to eat. "island" does a really good job. Food was good, place had a relaxed atmosphere and the service was friendly and helpful. I plan of hitting it a few more times, trying a few more things on the menu and then doing a full review. For now, 5 thumbs up... all the way.
Service was great, Vicky was quick with getting our orders and coffee and provided great conversation. My Cinnamon Bun Pancake was phenomenal!
Wonderful Raisin Bread French Toast & Sausage. The Blueberry Pancakes were excellent! Delicious coffee!
Our waitress was incredible & informative about the area.
She recommended us going down to Sandy Point Beach to enjoy the scenery & walk off our huge breakfast!
Excellent food and service. I had a corned beef omelette which was stuffed to the brim, my girlfriend had a stack of light fluffy French toast made with fresh baked bread. My coffee was never less than half full and neither was her tea. Definitely the best breakfast in the area!
Yeah it's a little divy, but this place is just an old school, get your grub on for a good price, kind of place. Really quick service and very friendly, don't be surprised if you're the only non-local when you eat here.
Step out on the Deck to eat outside, sure this place doesn't have the views other local spots do, but when you get pancakes that are as big as your head you've got more important things to work on.
Looking for a touristy dining experiences skip this place, but if you just want to eat and walk out with a tab that doesn't break the bank, then stop here.
This is our favorite place for breakfast! We regularly visit and are never disappointed. Rita and Bob are hard-working and very nice people and the staff is always attentive and friendly. Our grandchildren love their "Mickey Mouse" pancakes!
Very good food made from scratch, but the result can be slow service. Luckily we were not in a huge rush. The staff seems to know most of the diners - and it seems like the only place for miles serving breakfast. I guess the fact the locals keep going back is a good thing... but a little less chit chat with staff might boost service time a little bit. Overall good experience though.
Had a fabulous breakfast here! Eggs, potatoes, raisin bread, french toast, omelette, bacon... all delicious! We got a cinnamon roll to-go, it looked so good! Coffee was good, friendly staff, clean restaurant.
I love this place! It's a simple shack with a dozen tables and a 15' counter. No frills here, but the chow is decent and the service is fine. It's definitely NOT a tourist stop, locals only. If you expect something special, this place is not for you. Me, I LOVE it!
I'm a huge fan of really basic pancakes. Unfortunately I'm usually disappointed by crappy pancakes all over the state of Maine. Why can't more restaurants make such an easy item? I was pleasantly surprised by how good the blueberry pancakes were at Island Rise and Shine. Nothing fancy just really good pancakes with fresh blueberries inside well made pancakes. Not too doughy or thin or too bready they were just perfect. I also got home fries, bacon and eggs that were all cooked just right and really well made. It's a basic restaurant with amazing food.
Love the fish fry! We go there for breakfast all the time and started hitting up there Friday fish fry and have to say it is really great. It's a small family dinner, and you get good portions at really reasonable prices, I have yet to leave hungry.
Went here for breakfast. As you walk in you notice the dated interior but employees great you quickly allowing you to gloss over the suroundings. Once seated, server asked for drinks and prom0ly returned a few minutes later. Ordered the western omlet and it was jam packed and filling. Homefrys could of been cooked a bit longer but overall I would return.
Great Food, but because it was MMA Parents weekend they were short staffed, they didn't know a couple thousand extra parents were in town. They were turning away their many loyal Locals to feed us from out of state! Also I Understand under new-ish ownership just under a year. Third time here but don't expect to be able to eat "off the floor spotless", if you know what I mean. Could use a fresh coat of paint, but we come for the fantastic food and large portion sizes! Don't want to put a plug in for the MUFFINS,,, baked fresh, seasonal and standard favorites. Left very satisfied we did, can't wait to return on our next trip. 4 star overall, 5 Star Flavor!
Our men's group from the Orland United Methodist Church have met here for years! Today we all had the lobster omelets. It was by far the best I have ever eaten! At $9.95 it is bargain and includes toast and homefries. A full claw decorates the top!
Great breakfast place on Verona Island. Most everything on the menu has a hearty, homemade, and distinctly Downeast quality to it. Omelets, exotic pancakes, french toast, real Maine maple syrup, etc. The Philly Cheese steak omelet is quite good, as are biscuits and sausage gravy, but the corned beef hash is worth coming for all on it's own.
