Reviews New Scenic Cafe

In the summer of 2017 I had a meal at New Scenic Café. It seemed like they were understaffed and the meal and the service were not very good, especially for the money. New Scenic Café is my mother's favorite restaurant on the North Shore, so she insisted that I try once more to have a meal there. Yesterday, 1/2/18, I returned for my second meal there, and was rewarded with a fantastic dining experience. The service was remarkable and the food was some of the best I've ever had. I'm very glad that I decided to give them another chance because it was more than worth it. On a side note, I think it's hilarious that people posted bad reviews because they "didn't understand the menu" or "didn't have salt and pepper at the table"... if you don't appreciate fine dining, you should probably just stick with Applebee's or similarly awful restaurants, instead of crying about something you don't understand.

This is a good place for vegetarians like myself. We had a veg Cauliflower and Falafel entree and it was awesome. Their desserts are something to die for. We had 3 of the 5 or 6 or menu. Dont forget to try the semolina cake. Its one of the best desserts I have ever had. Not to forget the location of the place. Its right on Scenic highway 61. All in all a must on your list while visiting duluth and two harbors.

Stopped in with my husband after camping on the SHT, to have an amazing early dinner. I am a frugal person and will only eat out if I know the food will be worth the $, every time I come here (have been eating with you for 5 years) it is! So far I have never been disappointed, so I thought it was time to leave a review. Thanks for your thoughtfully put together plates that never disappoint :)

A beautiful atmosphere with incredible food; and the waitress was great at describing the dishes and helping me decide everything from the appetizers to the entress as well as the wine....and Wed is 1/2 off glasses and bottles of their fine wine selection. great. Will have to return!

Excellent food wine and service. Our server suggested some lovely ideas that all went together beautifully. A very nice find worth the trip.

The New Scenic has been around nearly 20 years and is well-known as the best place north of the Cities, but they are far from resting on their laurels. The last mean I had there (7/4/17) was the best ever. Incredible pork loin with artichokes and a memorable pistachio cake, among other things.

Completely blown away. Incredibly delicious food, whimsical plating, and delightful service, set in an upscale-rustic north shore lodge right on Lake Superior. Highly recommend the ahi tuna tacos followed by the rack of lamb. Can’t wait to go back!

We came on a beautiful April evening and it was pretty busy - looked like Prom was happening and many people were out and about due to the wonderful weather! We were not on a time-bound schedule, so we did not mind the 30 minute wait, in fact we expected longer with how busy they were! We grabbed a couple drinks and sat by the campfire - the view is amazing! We had the ahi tuna tacos (I think this is what they were called) for an appetizer and we highly recommend them!!! Then, we had the smoked salmon and beef tenderloin - both were delicious! We split the chocolate for dessert - wonderful!!! Excellent food, service and atmosphere!!

We loved our dinner here. A few things that weren’t so great though— the wait time for our food was an hour. It was a busy night and they are a small business and our server was very nice, so not a huge deal. Another thing was their oysters were served room temp. And had a lot of shell in them. It was strange and that part was disappointing. Their main dishes were seriously amazing and their scenery and server was awesome. Plus their strawberry dessert was like heaven! All around very fun dinner in a magical place

If you've never been to the New Scenic Cafe, you have to go! If you have been, then you already know, this restaurant serves up the most amazing food! I've been going here for years, and I absolutely love it! The menu is always changing, and the creations are always so amazing! Service is always the best, the entire staff is incredible and so friendly. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Great location! Beautiful minimalist design! Good service! I did not check the menu or reviews before going and I was expecting more casual cafe food but it is a fine dining experience. The food was good but portions were really small even for a fine dining formal restaurant.

Absolutely phenomenal. I'd stopped by in the morning for a cup of coffee, thinking it was just a casual coffee shop. They weren't yet open but they obliged me with a strong, hot cup of coffee (free of charge). I checked the menu, which was very intriguing for a foodie like myself, and promised to circle back which I did. As a starter I went with a cup of the French Onion (seemed apropos as I was fishing at the French River). There are many an offering of French Onion to be found but it's rarely done well which is why I like to test the waters when I get the opportunity. This French Onion was easily the best of the best that I've ever had. On the recommendation of the adorable tattooed brunette, I went with the Sea Scallops and again, a perfect presentation superbly done. As anyone who's ever gambled on Sea Scallops can attest, they can sometimes come out chewy and lackluster. These were anything but. I will be back. Thanks for the coffee as well!

Visited this gem of a place early Feb 2022. Everything we had was stellar, beginning with the warmed pistachios they gave us while we waited, to the Belgian endive salad and French onion soup, to the amazing beef tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes, homemade buns, caramelized-onions, peas and pearl onions with an au jus over it all 🤤 Ended with a homemade pistachio cake with homemade ice cream. We loved this place!

We had an an absolute wonderful December afternoon dinner at New Scenic Cafe. The simple yet delicious flavors delighted the taste buds. The beautiful setting sun colors over Lake Superior warmed our souls on this cold day. We are all glad that we decided to stop here to eat. Highly recommend!

What a beautiful ambiance in what feels like a chic cabin. We went for a mid afternoon wine and oyster snack and ended up also getting a carmelized carrot app special and the chocolate cremeux dessert ($9). All of it was absolutely delightful! The presentation of the oysters was beautiful - sitting on top of seaweed, served with freshly grated horseradish, mignonette, hot sauce and house made fennel sesame crackers. The carrot app was so fresh and tasty. The chocolate dessert was so well balanced in taste and texture with the shortbread, buttermilk caramel and hot air candy. Service was on point! (There is a 20% fair wage share service charge added to every bill and additional grats are not expected.)

A little gem right across from Lake Superior. Phenomenal food and drinks and the waitstaff are thoughtful, knowledgeable, quick and kind. It was such a great spot we stopped by for afternoon drinks the next day!
