I made a special trip from Grand Rapids, just to have dinner here. Food and environment is authentic, owners are friendly. Update... I had a party of 13, called ahead, everything was ready and delicious. Spent 175. So much better than fast food!

I ate here for the first time recently. I told the owner I like fish and she recommended me the Salt & Pepper Fish. It was so delicious I ate the whole thing in one sitting, I didn’t even know I was that hungry. The best sit-down Chinese/Cantonese restaurant I have ever been to

I want to go back to East Lansing just so I can go to East Cafe again. I got the Hong Kong style tofu and my bf got dry chili chicken, the portion size was good, we were full halfway but they were so delicious we had to finish them. Love the place, love the owners, it’s like visiting your grandparents

Ordered multiple items for our first time, and asked for extra spicy on several. East Cafe is hands down the most authentic to their makings and perfect for the spicy fans out there! Arguably the best Asian region authentic style in the Lansing area! Update: Our second experience was quite the opposite and the polar opposite of spicy on all three main items. Our next visit will be in person. Still recommend overall via two orders thus far. 3/4 updates: 100% stand with my first review. Amazing place!

Went here for the first time today. It's easy to miss, but so glad I didn't. I had the Cumin Beef and it was delicious. My daughter got the salt and pepper fish and it was out of this world. I've never had anything like it. The fry on the fish, the salt and spice were perfection. 10/10.

Recommend: Stir fried green beans Flavourful and authentic Chinese cuisine. Unapologetically bold in character and flavours.

Went here with a group of 5 for lunch. Not very busy at all, but pretty good food. Owner and staff were very friendly. Food came out fast. They did get one of our dishes wrong, but we ordered ~10 things so I don't blame them! Not very spicy food though.

my gf & I were looking for someplace with vegan options that wouldn't be too close to campus where all the hectic parties are. We also happened to be going out on a Saturday evening, so we had to find someplace that wasn't over crowded. This place was perfect! It's tiny, and cozy with authentic hong kong / Chinese dishes. There is a dictionary sized menu there, so we asked the lady who runs the place for recommendations on vegan foods. She recommended the crispy green beans, which honestly did not sound appetizing to me because as vegans there's this stigma around us only eating greens or whatever... However, these were THE BEST green beans I have ever tasted. However they served these beans, it was heavenly and addicting. My gf and I will be returning for the beans lol. Also, my gf doesn't usually like curry, but she really enjoyed the Singapore noodles!! Make sure to ask for them without egg if you're vegan!! The kung Pao tofu was SPICY as heck, so next time we'll ask for light spice (we forgot to tell her we are actual babies when it comes to spice). I also got the veggie delight rice dish & it was ok, but I prefer my veggies cooked a bit longer. Overall, a quiet environment with an authentic vibe & plenty of affordable options for vegans and carnivores <3

Good food. The waitress was so nice also. I didn't give five stars because I didn't like the crab rangoon that much. But the sweet & sour chicken came with onions, pineapple, carrots, and zucchini. The waitress saw us picking out the zucchini and she brought us green pepper instead. Great experience!

Ordered beef brocolli with mushroom since basil beef was going to take longer because they literally pick out fresh basil. Requested lightly spicy instead of the regular and mushrooms. Everyone says its authentic chinese but I can honestly say I have no clue, it’s definitely not the regular “Chinese food.” A little less tasty than the americanized because it doesn’t have a load of sugar and/or salt, still tasted great and felt way healthier and reminded me of my home country’s food a little (Egypt). I can literally drink the beef sauce, quantity btw was great maybe not so much the beef but the veggies and rice were surprisingly plentiful and filled me up with plenty for later.

The owners are super nice! They have daily specials that I thought is unique from other Chinese restaurants around. The owners always try to cater to your needs. I go there and cater from them a lot.

Ginny and Danny run one of the best Hong Kong / Chinese restaurants anyplace, by far. Traditional foods and specials abound. The ginger fish is amazing. We love the beef and green beans. Bubble tea is delicious. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and amazing. The restaurant is kept wonderfully clean. Overall, a great eating experience! If you are in the Lansing area, don’t miss stopping at East Gate. We have been going here for years!

Fantastic place for quality food from wonderful people. Always get a friendly welcome whenever I pick up food. The portions are generous. I use the online ordering and set a time for pickup and is ready on time every time and nice and hot. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. Picture is of their Shrimp Mei Fun

The best Chinese in E. Lansing without a doubt. Some very authentic recipes and preparations you will not find anywhere else. And VERY tasty. Well presented. Friendly and accommodating service. Good place for family or group of friends.

Had the fatty beef/fish in chili oil and it was incredible. Everyone there was so friendly and they even gave us recommendations on how we could use our leftovers in other recipes. Loved it

LOVE the fish spicy oil soup. (don't remember the name but it's one of the chef specials ) it had so much flavor and perfect for the winter months. It's absolutely huge and can probably feed four people. Def reccomend.
