As a roadrat, I am dining alone as usual, and while on my way to yet another fast food meal, I saw the sign for Live Music while driving down Columbia street in Evansville. I came in for a bar burger (a personal favorite) and ended up ordering a pork steak with red beans and rice. Phenomenal!
That was on Tuesday night. Tonight, Wednesday, live music is featured, so I HAD to return to sample the local wares. I ordered a DoubleDecker pizza, a speciality of the house. The 10" pepperoni, sausage, and extra cheese, is too much for one, but the leftovers go in the rental car trunk to be warmed up for breakfast. I loved the pork steak and fixings, but the DoubleDecker pizza was a little dry for me, albeit tasty. Maybe this appetite is looking for something a little less healthy :-).
If I'm ever in the area again, I hope I remember this place; my aged brain isn't as good as it was, but since the Deerhead by name, has been here since 1983, and business on a cold Wednesday night seems to be steady, I imagine it will be here for my next visit, whenever that is. My server, Jeff, says that the place was here long before it became the Deerhead, by the way.
Oh, yeah; the live music: I didn't stay for long after acoustic musician John Hurst started performing (my work beckons), but he plays a nice acoustic guitar and has a pleasant singing voice in kind of a coffeehouse style . I'd come to see him again.
And I'd come eat here again.
I believe that was absolutely the most amazing plate of red beans and rice I have ever eaten!!!!!
As always, great food and fast service! Pork steak and red beans & rice is the best!

We have been twice now and have loved it each time! We were just there 3/6/17 around 6:00 and our waitress was great! She was very personable and quick! We have only sat on the restaurant side and can't wait to come back and try the bar side, just hope your bartender has a smile on his face!
We have recommended to all our friends from Southern Illinois to drive over, it's worth it!
Deer head has the best Greek salad. Anytime I am in Evansville that's where I go to eat. Delicious!!!!

The double decker pizza, and breadsticks with cheese were delicious! The service was great! The atmosphere was nice. Hoping to go back when they have a jazz night sometime when we're back in town.
Amazing pizza and appetizers. Cold beer is a bonus. Great family night on the sidewalk. Yummy.
I have never been disappointed with the food, service, or atmosphere! My friend and I were here for lunch recently and it was perfect. Great place to gather with friends to get fantastic food.
We were there early in the evening and a light crowd. We had wonderful service and the strombolis regular and Texan were really good. Great place for a quiet dinner with friends.
Love it been going for 14 yrs still same friendly feel, drinks are amazing hat off to Jeff, food double decker � pork steak wow! Need to go once a week family are not.

Truly, The Deerhead never disappoints. The music, the ambience, the service... OH, and the PIZZA!!! Best place to have a good time!
Ate lunch on a Friday. Server was really good and kept our drinks full. I had the Greek salad that was fantastic as always. I also had the pork soulvakia. The flavor was great but the meat was a little dry and tough. The chicken version is better to me. I still recommend this place!!
My husband picked up a double decker pizza! I had no idea they had them! I was barely able to get through a whole piece! It's stuffed with toppings! I would highly recommend to get some pizza sauce on the side. He got us parmesan and feta. It was amazing! This is a locally owned treasure! I have lived in Evansville my whole life and have had a few things on their menu. Everything I have tried is delicious! I highly recommend it.
Seriously good pizza at a reasonable price. Got some delivery and it was hot upon arrival and tasted fresh. Multiple options to make your own pizza and delicious seasoning on the breadsticks.
The food is great 👍 we ordered a double decker meaty blues, a veggie stromboli, Greek salad, and a thin crust deluxe. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend.
Met up for lunch, 1st time here... Staff was friendly. It wasn't very clean or cool considering it was 95° out. A waitress eventually asked if it was warm & then she turned the AC down after.
Also they didn't have Crown Apple, I took a Jack Apple/Sprite instead and it was just too watery like flat sprite. But the pizza we shared was damn good!! I really liked it! I will prolly return to try the fried tenderloin sandwich :-)
I was in town for my daughter’s cheer events and had time to eat prior to her performance at Ford Center. I searched area for Pizza places and came across this old school pizza joint. Very friendly staff, local / home town atmosphere!! Had to try double decker pizza and was not disappointed! It’s very filling, so took plenty home for leftovers 😁 saved this spot in my maps for the next time I get down to the area.
Wanted to support somewhere local, and wanted some pizza for the weekend. I am a food delivery driver and have picked up pizza for customers from here and really wanted to try it out after smelling it in the car taking it to customers.
We got the three ingredients pizza with pepperoni, pineapple, and spinach. It was absolutely delicious. The sauce and things are a little sweet, and the pizza is very thin and crispy.
They do the checkerboard pizza cut style for easy sharing, and the bread sticks were very good. Golden brown and the cheese dip was great as well. I would definitely recommend deerhead pizza as one of, if not the best local pizza shops in town at the moment.
Looking forward to trying more menu options in the future!
Decided to come here for a bite to eat and a couple drinks although skeptical about ordering food in a bar I was very much satisfied by what I ordered. The drinks were good and cold and music being played made it a very enjoyable experience. I will be returning very soon to try something different.
