Hey Fellow Foodies, I made it to Voyager in Ferndale last night. What a great place. It’s a small NEIGHBORHOOD restaurant with a super friendly vibe. The staff & other customers were so welcoming and easy to be around. They’ve really created a warm & inviting atmosphere. If you can’t get a reservation, don’t fret, because they always save a few tables for walk-ins. The mood was happy & relaxed. Decor is basic and down to earth. We arrived during happy hour & had a drink at the bar before dinner. No complaints there. Bar staff was warm, attentive, & engaging. Julie was our server & she was friendly, efficient, attentive, & knowledgeable about the menu. We had oysters to start. They had a pretty large selection in the range of $2.50-$3.00 a piece & you could mix & match them however you like. Ours were fresh & delicious. Next we moved on to steak tartare. Theirs had its own spin, which included a couple of little cornmeal breaded fish sticks in top. It wasn’t my favorite steak tartare ever....but it was good. We also had hush puppies...pretty standard, but good. Main courses were coconut shrimp fried rice, which I really loved & a shrimp/pasta dish that was pretty simple, but really good. I’m pretty sure the pasta itself was made in house. Dessert was a crumbled cake with green strawberries (which I chose because it sounded different). I liked it but wish I’d chosen Julie’s recommendation instead (next time!) They don’t stage their food, so things come out as they’re completed in the small kitchen. Because of this, it’s really set up for sharing & they don’t mind if you don’t order everything all at once. I went with an old friend & we had the best time sharing & trying lots of stuff while chatting with the staff & people around us. They have a small outdoor seating area. If you like seafood and being around a younger/trendy crowd, this place is a great find. We left with smiles on our faces. We’ll definitely be going back. ($133 for 4 glasses of wine, 3 mixed drinks, 1/2 dozen oysters, hush puppies, steak tartare, 2 entrees, & a dessert) Overall, I think this was a good value for the level of service & quality of food.

Great meal. The drinks were wonderful, service on point, and food amazing. In particular the yellowtail crudo was the shining star in addition to the oyster platter with ham and burrata. Briny oysters are my jam and it was such a wonderful slurp. Definitely see how this is a top restaurant and looking forward to catching new dishes in the future! For us, the tuna on toast wasn’t a winner. But everything else we had was. Clean, quaint, high quality. Winner.

Excellent service, delicious food, small plates. We had peel & eat grilled shrimp, pasta with crab and asparagus and caviar , grilled oysters, halibut with crispy chicken skins and an unusual but great lemon tart for dessert.

Hats off to Eli Boyer and staff! My family and I had dinner at Voyager after a movie. First of all we loved the happy hour drink special! Everything we ordered from the salad to our main course was so fresh and delicious! Food was seasoned well! Our server Shannon was very kind and attentive. We will tell family and friends about Voyager as a choice to have dinner when ever they visit Ferndale.

Happy Hour was the bomb! And our waitress Jess was super informative about the oysters and what to recommend when we wanted others. It is pricey but it is a nice and different night out.

These folks know how to perfectly prepare the freshest seafood in town. Scallops literally melted in my mouth. Opa grilled to pefection. And the oysters. Oh, the oysters! And a special shout out to our server, Frankie, for her professional service and helpful guidence. Too bad there's not a sixth star.

Stunning food, brilliant service, outstanding feel to the place. Best seafood in the Metro area. Oysters were exceptionally fresh and tasty, shrimp had great flavor, and the asparagus was grilled perfectly. Regina, the bartender/host was stellar!

My first visit here and there will be many more! So impressed with the whole experience - food, cocktails, service - all top notch!! Kudos to our bartender, Dan, who “made” me try several different cocktails on the list. This is a winner!!

Had an amazing experience at Voyager on Saturday evening July 1. The chilled peel-and-eat shrimp were addictive, the mai-tai was boozy and fresh and oh, so summery...the whitefish sandwich was everything you could ever want a fish sandwich to be, and the tuna/pasta salad was everything tuna/pasta salad has never been before but should have been all along!! Enjoyed the pineapple upside-down cake but the Baked Alaska may be the single most amazing dessert I've ever enjoyed. The staff was so warm, helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. Love the location and space: the whole vibe was so relaxing and fun. If you are looking for a formal, white-tablecloth sort of experience, there are plenty of places around town where you can find that...I feel Voyager is for the sort of diner who wants something casual, simple, accessible, and a little idiosyncratic. A wonderful addition to the area and can't wait to come back soon!

I LOVE this restaurant! I am a pescetarian and this place is amazing. I have 0 complaints about anything I've ever had here. Bo is very charismatic and amazing with recommendations. Our server I believe was Julia? Brunette whose so positive and sweet gave us awesome explanations on the food making us excited to try. I love everything that this restaurant is doing and I will definitely be back in the future! Perfect spot for date night by the way.

I’ve been in the restaurant business my whole life. I hate writing restaurant reviews. So all that I’ll say is GO to Voyager! Cool vibe, super fresh and expertly prepared seafood, and, most impressive, an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Dan the bartender rocks.

Fantastic cocktails!! You CANNOT beat $4 happy hour drinks that are not watered down like some bars. You must order the fried rice. I'm not even a big oyster fan but they were some of the freshest I've ever had. I found a few of the hush puppies to be a bit too salty but overall a good dish but not great. The show stopper is the HALIBUT! Make sure to order a side of toast so you can soak up the sauce left in the bowl. YUM!!! Can't wait to go back.

We arrived a little early for our reservation to check out happy hour. Our bartender Jordan was helpful in selecting a few drinks and dishes. Good conversationalist. After an hour we went to sit for dinner where adorable Lily helped us pick out a few more drinks and dishes. Everything....and I mean everything, we tried was top tier. The flavors and preparation was *PERFECT*. We blew off this spot for years because of the Detroit food explosion. Much regret for not checking out Voyager sooner! Might be the top 3 Seafood spots I have had in my life. The drinks were well balanced as well.

Voyager is such a lovely restaurant. My husband and I had such a delicious dinner here a few weeks ago. The menu was dedicated to an event in France when we went (I can’t remember what it’s called). It’s a cozy environment and the food was excellent!

Second time here & the quality of seafood here is rare for metro Detroit (and the prices match that). Service was accommodating and attentive, but not over bearing. The OYSTERS were AH-mazing (Pink Moon). Always enjoy the peel & eat shrimp & the hush puppies with that sweet butter. Arctic char was perfectly cooked - the turnips might’ve been a liiiiitle too smoky but I enjoyed them. I love that this place is just down the street. Don’t ever change.

Only took one photo of our first plate(crudo) because I was so focused on all of the amazing food in front of me! The oysters, buffalo halibut, Caesar salad, mussels, crudo, & drinks were all great and every dish on the menu was clearly created with talent and passion. Loved that they also had mocktail options. I would absolutely eat here again.

Went here for Friday date night and it was a great experience from start to finish. I had been wanting to check this place out for a while and it surpassed expectations. Lily was very pleasant and made great suggestions. The food was outstanding and coursed very well considering the small kitchen. Will be back and recommending to all my friends!

I was initially suspicious this would be one of these places hipsters rave about because of the novelty factor ( high end seafood behind a tire shop) but we ended up having a meal my wife described as " one of the best meals of my life". The place is not much from the outside but once you walk in you sense a very Williamsburg vibe. The decor is cool. Our drinks were very tasty. We ordered the seafood platter which was an excellent idea. The seafood is very fresh and the kitchen knows not to mess with it. The snow crab legs were delicious. Shrimps were seasoned perfectly with old bay. The oysters were the stars of the show. The mussels initially felt like an afterthought but with the sauce they were really excellent. I've never had a panzanella before but I'm ordering it any time I see it on a menu from now on. The Lobster pasta was the best dish of the night, by far. There was a creamy salty sweet umami that was absolutely out of this world. You don't come here for dessert but it was still very good. Absolutely coming back to this place very very soon
