While it's possible to enjoy this speaking only English, I urge you to find a Chinese companion to make ordering simpler.
We ate flies' heads, fruit of the fragrant manjack tree, and stinky tofu. It turns out that Taiwanese sautéed flies’ heads aren’t actually made from real flies’ heads, and the fruit of the fragrant manjack tree isn’t actually made from fragrant manjack. But the stinky tofu was definitely made from remarkably stinky tofu.
Flushing is filled with awesomely delicious and totally under rated joints. Locally savored chinese food and snacks brought overseas from a variety of regions of the mainland, plus an array of cheap eats from vietnamese, korean, to thai a
Small Taiwanese restaurant south of Chinatown. Workers were super friendly and you can tell they care about their customers!
Ordered:
-3 Cup Chicken: So tender. I’ve never had this before, but it reminded me of chicken adobo without the vinegar and different spices.
-Oyster Omelet: edges are crisp and the insides are gooey. Delicious.
-Fried Pompano: crispy fish sitting in a gingery sauce. Yum!
Would I go back? Yes! They were so friendly and it’s helpful that I went with a Taiwanese friend. She said the restaurant reminds her of Taiwan. Make sure you bring cash because it’s cash only.
This is my go to spot for 3 cup chicken, pork intestine and tofu pot. Is just good. Is low key, is flavorful, been coming since 2007. Their flys head(minced pork with chili) is really good if you can eat spicy.
100% hidden gem
The door front, store settings and atmosphere just reminded me of local food stalls in a taiwanese neighborhood. I first visited the restaurant in 2018. After all these years, I still feel the warm hospitality from the waitresses, bringing the friendliness of taiwanese to all guests.
- Minced Pork on Rice 滷肉飯
- Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞
- Chef Special Crispy Pork Chop 林師傅排骨
- Shredded Pork w/ Diced Bean Curd 香乾肉絲
- Intestine w/ Sour Mustard 酸菜大腸
- Clams w/ Black Beans 炒蛤蜊
- Cuttlefish w/ Chive 韭菜花枝
- Chinese Cabbage 高麗菜
- A Choy A菜
The dishes were stunningly delicious, yet sometimes it tasted slightly too salty, such as the shredded pork. Both Three Cup Chicken and Crispy Pork Chop were excellent in taste, the meat was tender and well sauced. While for vegetables, the Chinese cabbage were sweeter and softer than A Choy.
The price surprisingly doesn't raise considerably, but of course comparing to the portion size 4 years ago, the dishes become a bit fewer. As long as they could maintain the food quality, the size doesn't really bother me.
If you are craving for outstanding authentic taiwanese food in NYC, this is certainly a place you shouldn't miss.
My Recommendations:
Minced Pork on Rice, Three Cup Chicken, Shredded Pork w/ Diced Bean Curd
Stopped here for a late lunch after walking through Corona Park. Excellent food, friendly staff. If you are a tourist, skip Chinatown in lower Manhattan and go to Flushing, Queens instead. The area of Main St from 60th Ave to 40th is filled with restaurants, stores and food markets.
Here for a table of 6 and about 10 minutes wait. But that’s not always true. This place can get busy and very traditional spot.
Food is amazing. I love the three cup chicken and all tofu dishes. I would ask for suggestions if you are having trouble but speaking Chinese will help with ordering.
Service is typically Chinese spot. Expect less and enjoy the extra attention if any. Smile and say thank you will be appreciated. Ask for tea.
Ambiance will be like going to a fancier takeout spot. It’s not great for a date but a casual meal or family dinner. You should expect to overhear other’s conversations if you understand.
If you are adventurous, I would order stinky tofu.
Very generous owner. They reminded us “the most beautiful scenery in Taiwan is its people”. The owner gave us stir fried Chinese cabbage for free. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken doesn’t taste authentic yet it’s fantastic. Moreover, we didn’t know that it was CASH ONLY and wasn’t able to pay enough tips. The owner let go of that. Will definitely come back!
Love this small mom and Pop Taiwanese eatery. All dishes are authentic and the owners are so kind. I have nothing but high praise.
A must visit!!!!
Excellent food here, we ordered so much to try bunch of different items. The one I call flyheads with the pork and leeks was so good. Some bites you catch a pepper chunk and it lights your mouth up, but that is what I love about it. Livers, stinky tofu (okay I don't eat this one but my wife and her dad and aunt loved it), the soup with the blood sausage looking stuff, all of it met with a smile as it was devoured. The chef gave us this great mashed yam desert after we finished. I had never had it before, I have no idea what it's called, but that was a unique and tasty end to a great dinner.
I always love coming here for Taiwanese food. There's a few dishes that we always get when we go, fly heads(not really fly heads the black beans), 3 cup chicken, tea pork ribs, sautéed cabbage, and bitter melon with salted egg. The portions are a little small but you get to order alot of different dishes to try.
The owner is very generous. The food portion is enough to fill the stomach. The price is okay. The staffs are very friendly. The only thing that you need to know is that it only takes cash.
Looking for mouthwatering authentic Taiwanese food in NYC? Look no further. Main Street Imperial Taiwanese will satisfy your every craving. This hole-in-the wall spot has been serving flavorful and delectable dishes since 1997. My family and I always come here whenever we want to eat home-cooked food but don’t feel like cooking. We also always bring out-of-town visitors to dine here and everyone has loved it.
The crowd favorites are:

Sweet and Sour Pork Chop
Salt and Pepper Chicken
Three Cup Chicken
Shredded Beef with Chili Pepper
Hakka Stir-Fry
Bitter Melon with Salty Egg

Fish Filet with Tofu in Red Yeast Sauce
Tofu Casserole
Hot and Sour Soup
Crazy Noodles
I definitely recommend eating in as opposed to takeout/delivery. The food here tastes best right out of the kitchen. Chef Lin works wonders with a wok and is cheerful, chatty and a great lover of fried chicken. Workers are both friendly and efficient. A veritable diamond in the rough, stop by if you’re in the neighborhood and judge it for yourself.
TIP - Cash only.
We had the railroad bento, oyster omelet, garlic squid, stinky tofu, oyster noodle with pig intestines, and hakka stir fry. everything was fantastic EXCEPT for the stinky tofu, not stinky or juicy enough. But the hakka stir fry and the spicy garlic squid is just marvelous for anyone who misses Taiwanese night market food. The oyster omelet does the job and is on point but the sauce is a little weak and the veggies are watery—it’s just me being picky but it’s definitely the closest Taiwanese oyster omelet one can find in the greater NYC area.
Overall a great takeout place during Covid time.
This is one of my favorite Taiwanese food in Queens. Everything here tastes good.
Great local taiwanese for over 20 years I believe. Great service and ofcus Taiwan beer! Always refreshing but it can get very crowded and busy at time from time on weekends specially. But definitely worth the wait.
Ordered the soy sauce pork over rice and oyster omelette. Feels like flavor was just ok. A little pricy for lunch. Maybe better to come in group so you can pick several dishes.
