Excellent food and personal attention. It was my first time there, and even though they were busy, they were nice and patient. They took the time to explain the food and choises.
I WILL GO BACK FOR MORE .
THANK YOU.
My new favorite spot in Broward.
I start off with the doubles which is just a burst of flavor from curry to sweet to spicy. I get the hottest one. Literally can't get anything like it elsewhere.
I've gotten their roti platter of curry goat, curry potatoes and sweet potato which gave me great leftovers. Top it with their hot sauce and tamarind sauce and I'm in heaving.
I love their selection of juices - limeade, mauby and I typically get a bottle of coconut water.
They have some nice ice cream selection too Soursap, Rum & Raisin to end your meal or take home.
Plus everything is reasonably priced and everyone is really nice. Love it here.
I used Tabanka to cater my father's 90th birthday. The guests and the guest of honor loved everything we served!! Curried goat, chicken, pholourie, doubles and pumpkin. I knew it was a hit when my 84 yr old aunt took two plates home! On top of that, going to pick up the food, they helped me load up my car!! Nothing but love for dinner whole crew!! Helped make my father's celebration much more special!!
This was my first time at this establishment but it will not be my last. Nice vibe, good service and most importantly good food . 😊
Tabanca is the place to go for Trinidadian food when in South Florida. The ambience of the restaurant feels like home. There is artwork from various artists hanging in the restaurant and that gives a homey vibe. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with relics of Trinidad. The customer service is excellent. There is a family feel and the staff are friendly and attentive. The doubles here are very good and have great flavor and taste. I would highly recommend Tabanca for Trinidad delicacies and food items.
Best trini food I’ve had in years. Felt like I was home again. 10/10 recommend
The doubles with medium everything is one of the best I've tasted whilst in Florida!!! The green sauce is flavorful and the pepper has just the right amount of heat. The rum and raising ice cream is very delicious and brings back a taste of home. Service is amicable!. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area. Cannot wait to try the coconut water and well pie as well.
There are few places that make you feel like you're in another country. There are fewer that make you feel like you've been transported in time. And even fewer that can do both. Welcome to Tabanka - a Trini Kitchen, a place that does both amazingly well. Tabanca in Trini slang, means a deep feeling of longing, loss, and sadness, usually associated with the end of relationships, but as the Mighty Trini taught us, it can also apply to food. And Tabanka looks to fill that void in the hearts of many Trinis, by taking them on a nostalgic trip down memory lane to a simpler time. This experience is by no means reserved for people from Trinidad and Tobago, as the food, the service, and the ambiance are sure to appeal to people from all cultures and backgrounds.
We went for breakfast, shortly after they opened on Sunday, which was extremely lucky for us because they filled up like a bake and shark at Maracas, which they also have on the menu. We ordered doubles (fried dough filled with curried garbanzo beans) and alloo pies (dough pies filled with seasoned potato and curried channa aka garbanzo beans). We also ordered roti to go as well for later. The doubles area was set up like a vendor you would see on the side of the road in Trinidad. And the food was hot, delicious, and well made. The ambiance reminded you a of small corner shop, with all the snacks, crunchy, sweet, sour, salty, and tart in so many different ways, which were prevalent everywhere growing up.
The barra (fried dough for the doubles) was light and fluffy and the channa was well seasoned. They have flavorful and hot pepper sauce that you can add separately. The roti was light, not greasy, and filled with split peas. The bhaji (spinach) was smooth and flavorful, with hints of coconut milk. And the pumpkin was cooked to perfection.
The place is decorated with corrugated aluminum, commonly used for roofing in Trinidad, making rainy nights heavenly for sleeping. The lighting is reminiscent of pitch oil torches. So while not romantic, it definitely changes the mood. And the stereo plays Soca, Calypso, Chutney, and the like, creating a festive atmosphere.
I can't go in to a full cultural breakdown of Trinidad's history and culinary greatness and uniqueness as compared with the rest of the Caribbean and the world, but maybe one day we will meet up at Tabanka, and I can explain it all. Tabanka took me back to being home in so many ways. I truly appreciate having this as an option now. Whatever you're in the mood for or if you're feeling a little adventurous and want to step outside your comfort zone, you should check out Tabanka for some great Trinidadian cuisine and old school vibes. You can thank me later.
Doubles was delicious. Melt in my mouth. I could have at least three. I didn't quite like the roti, it was a bit heavy for me. But the doubles saved the day ☺️. And the signs, I haven't heard those words since being back home.
The doubles was the real deal the bake and shark on point. This place was a experience the homemade ice cream literally the best I had the rum and raisins friendly staff 10/10 next time I visit Florida this will be my first stop .
Hands down the best Doubles I've had in South Florida, and perhaps in the US, in fact ... outside of Trinidad. Enjoy their Doubles open and hot at the restaurant. The Goat Roti also lash! I had mine wrapped. Besides Roti, Doubles and Aloo Pies (which I was told are heavenly), Tabanka also has a range of local dishes. The feedback on the dhal and rice was okay. Of course you can also enjoy a wide range of Trinidadian beverages (Carib, Solo, Peardrax, Apple J etc.) and local snacks (Currants roll, Kurma, Pepper Channa etc.) and even homemade ice cream. If this place was closer, I would definitely eat here at least twice a week!
Shout out to Khemy for the warm Caribbean hospitality and big up the liming crew who invited me over for some ole talk after I was finished eating.
Trini Jungle Juice was here. 😁
This place is so cute really feels like you’re in Trinidad, the doubles was amazing and probably the best I’ve had honestly. The staff was actually very friendly and inviting which was great. Love the decor and the authentic “doubles stand “ feel, will def be returning.
It was my first time trying them. The aloo pie was a bit stiff, and doubles were soft, disappointed since everyone else seemed to like their doubles.... Also bought the pone which tastes like Sybils and just because of that changed my rating on food to a 4. Lol
The sauces made them taste decent, but I have had better.
The atmosphere is definitely warm, friendly, and inviting. Service was a bit 🐌.
If I go back, it will be to try their actual food, which smelled delicious (instead of doubles and aloo pies).
The Roti and double's is my favorite , I even bought split peas channa and the regular channa. So! ... Good!
There are not many options of my preferences when it comes to finding a good Trini restaurant. Tabanka makes me keep coming back 😋
1st time here and it was a great experience. I ordered 2 Doubles (spicey) and 1 Allo Pie . They DID NOT disappoint! Only regret is I should have bought more. The music had my feet tapping and I highly recommend this family friendly place . The staff is also very welcoming. Have fun!
Ordered crab and dumplings...doubles and aloo pies and a veg combo,.. couldn't wait to try the crab and dumplings.. because I have never had it before and it was delicious!!! The doubles were good as well and the aloo pies...they actually had aloo in them!!! The service was excellent...from everyone. The atmosphere is sooo easy and welcoming...will be coming back to try the shark and bake!!! See you guys soon!
