After much debate on where to have dinner on our final night in Fort Wayne my wife and I finally decided to eat at Koto Japanese Steakhouse. That turned out to be arguably the best decision we made during our entire trip. We were lucky enough to have Mark as our chef and he definitely lives up to the reputation he's gained among the locals. Of all the hibachi chefs I've had he's by far the most entertaining and talented of them. If we're ever in Fort Wayne again we'll definitely be back and will request Mark as our chef again.
My family and I come here often. We have tried the sushi and hibachi. Both are wonderful. The menu caters to people who don't like sushi, which is nice. Hibachi is fun and delicious. Atmosphere is cozy and intimate. We have always had wonderful service.
Awesome. I must say that I have eaten out a lot and my meal at Koto was the best value and best food ever. Please if you go to the hibachi ask for Mark - he is a hoot and makes great food. Service was wonderful, food was wonderful, hibachi chef was wonderful can't wait to go back. Blows Takaoka and especially Sapporo which was an overpriced joke away.
Not too expensive, decent eats for the price. The service was EXCELLENT, our server Jimmy went above and beyond any service I have had in fort Wayne to make a friends birthday dinner amazing.
Koto Rocks. Um More Sushi tongiht.... Love this place!!! Will be back soon.!
My girlfriends & I thought lets try this new hibachi grill tonight. We pull in & the place is packed. I immediately regret not calling ahead, but the staff was kind & said about 45 min. Arriving early myself I said no problem. 25-30 min later & we had a booth in the dining area. Service was prompt & efficient. Sushi rolls came out fast & tasted amazing! (Sunshine rolls, Tokyo rolls, & a small sushi assortment) Then soup, salad, & hibachi. I had the surf & turf. The lobster was tender & delicious. I took home a deep Fried cheesecake that didn't disappoint either. Water glasses stayed filled & plates were being constantly removed to make room for the next course. A wonderful experience for which I am greatful! I will return:)
Best Hibachi in Fort Wayne. 2nd best Sushi next to Asakusa's! Excellent service, amazing pricing! Take the whole family on Saturdays before 4pm for lunchtime pricing!
Pros; Delicious food, reasonable prices. Traditional Hibachi entertainment. My co-workers had the surf and turf and enjoyed it. I had a very competent swordfish.
Cons; My swordfish was a tad overcooked and had to much lemon. Acceptable, but not preferred.
Birthday Dinners. Took my wife and 2 of our sons out for Their birthday dinners. My dinner was the Surf and turf.
Noticed that when all the steaks were set up on the griddle, they all looked the same, Like a sirloin not a
Filet. It was cooked well as was the lobster tail. I think I was served a sirloin. Service was rushed Like getem in and out, and the waitres was a little Bitchy
for my taste. Asked for a sake and was recommended a Sparkling Sake, so I tried it, not bad.
then when checking out the sake was $15.00. total dinner for 4 was $141.00 We did eat well but D@#
I took my son for his 14 th-day lunch, it was phenomenal. Went back with entire family for hibachi grill the next night and equally pleased! I don't think it's hard for young children ( I have 6 year old too) to enjoy something new, when it is presented well and tasts fantastic. Thank you for the wonderful meals and great service!
Was looking forward to racist jokes about terrorist groups! But was serverly disappointed that there was none after all the entertainment is half the reason for going to a place like this besides the great food !!
Great Service. The food here is good. The clear soup and salad may be better than other Japanese restaurants in town that I have been to. You get so much food! I had the teriyaki chicken, which was at least two breasts. My husband had pork katsu, which was two cutlets. The service is what makes this place great. They are happy to answer any questions about food, and are quick to clear any dirty dish out of your way.
We got there right at 5, when the doors open, on a Friday. The restaurant started filling fast, and by the time we left at 6 the place was pretty much full. So I recommend getting there early or making a reservation.
I will go here again.
Best in town. We went to Koto on Friday 20th This was a lovely restraunt to eat at. The decore was stunning, it feels like Im actually in Japan. Sushi was delish! Habachi was very tasty and the staff treated you like royality! Our server was so funny, we wil always ask for him! make sure to make reservation on Fridays we leanred it the hard way a couple months ago! Its nice to be greeted at the door when you walk in and out!
Great sushi in town. Better hibachi around.
We ate on Sunday on 4/22 in habachi, service was awesome! Best server a young waitress I cannot recall her name, and a really funny chef! Will be back soon!!! But will be trying sushi bar...
I'll be back!. I finally got around to trying this place after hearing multiple people talking about it. The inside was completely renovated and looked very upscale and clean. The service was fantastic and they seemed to be getting a pretty good lunch crowd.
I had the Chicken Katsu Bento Box--a pretty safe bet, hard to mess up. It was delicous and came with all kinds of a sides for a cheap price. I wasn't crazy about how the katsu sauce was put into the same space with the chicken instead of on the side like most places serve it. My husband had the Sushi Bento Box, which at only a dollar more than my chicken katsu was a steal. The cuts of seafood seemed to be of a high quality and larger than most places. I will certainly go back to try some of the rolls for dinner or sample the interesting appetizers!
Suprisingly Good. Was skeptical about Koto seeing how the facility was a built as a fast food restaurant that couldn't make it. Was very surprise by the décor inside, didn't remind me at all of what it use to be. Now we have been there for both lunch and dinner and all we have had is sushi so I cannot speak to the Teppanyaki part of the restaurant, but the sushi was very good. We have had 7 different rolls and have been happy with all that we have had. The shrimp appetizer was bland but once you dipped lightly in soy it brought out the flavor. The service both times was very good.
Great! One of the best in town!. Let me start by saying I love Sushi! I've been everywhere in Fort Wayne and Koto is certainly one of the best . . . Definitely one of my top three! Hands down the BEST "clear soup" in town - heavy with chicken stock! Terrific!
I do recommend that if you go to the Habatchi side and you get a steak, . . . order your steak a bit more rare than you normally would. For example if you like your steak "medium" order it medium rare . . . you'll be happy you did. The sushi is outstanding . . . Service . . . Pretty good too. When they are busy it can be a bit slow . . . but they are really striving to please everyone! I love this place and you will too!
Recently tried this place. Sat at the Sushi Bar. Food was very good. I would recommend the place. Tried couple of different rolls.
Our visit to Koto was a wonderful experience! We sat at the hibachi grill. The chef was pleasant and great entertainment. Both the clear soup and miso was great as well as the sushi. Definitely our new favorite Japanese restaurant.
A worthy addition to the scene. My gang tried Koto for lunch. I tried the Bento box with salmon, one person went for broke and had two sushi rolls. Very good all around. A good selection on the menu, including sake. This place is a keeper.
My lunch gang is glad to have a new Japanese place to add to the rotation. For a long time we were fans of Yokohama, RIP. We have a lot of issues with Asakusa, so Japanese was pretty much off the menu for the last two years. Good to have a new option.
My new favorite Japanese place. I knew the moment I walked in when I recognized so many faces that Koto must be owned by the same owners of Sakura! I never ate there when it was formerly Bar-B-Cutie, but they have really done an amazing job with the interior as it now has a very contemporary and upscale feel as you walk in, much improved from Sakura and you now have choices of the hibachi or regular dining area. The menu is an expanded Sakura menu which fortunately has all of my Sakura favorites such as Toyoko and Black Diamond Rolls. My husband always gets sushi, sushimi or rolls and is also never disappointed. The wait staff is always very friendly and recognizes us right away. I celebrated my birthday at Sakura the past two years and at Koto this year; and our waitress Jenny is always excellent and very sweet and personable.
Love this place! Great atmosphere, great food. Liked the black diamond roll, but the rock roll was amazing.
Liked it alot!. My first and only experience there was great. I hope to soon return. My wife and I sat at the hibachi grill and found everything to our liking. The cost, service and food is comperable to Takaoka however the menu options are far greater. I was surprised at the one semi negative review above. Seeing that individual has made 83 reviews I decided to see how their thoughts compared to other places I have been. Frankly that person does not like much of anything and some of what they did like I would not feed to my neighbor's dog. Give Koto's a try and see for yourself.
The Black Diamond is a "must" dish. Very helpful and friendly service.
As surprised as I was to see someone have the balls to open a Japanese restaurant anywhere near the highly-esteemed Asakusa, I was even more surprised to see such a hokey establishment like Bar-B-Cutie transformed into such a beautiful place. Excellent ambience and excellent service. The ginger dressing on the green salad left little to be desired, the miso soup was fine, but the sushi was great. Tried the California roll - a staple at any American sushi bar - and one of Koto's special rolls, the Samurai Roll, which had A LOT of different ingredients. The CA roll was excellent, and the Samurai, though a little bland at first, grew on me. Overall, I'd say this place has a few pluses over Asakusa, and a few minuses as well. I think it's worth the $$.
