If you are a sushi lover this is the place to go. Owner Kelly was a princess in handling our meal and preparation..entire meal she planned was outstanding and the Kobe beef magnificent. Definitely worth the trip..
This place is amazing! I come here ALL THE TIME! I have brought family, friends, dates, and co-workers here and every single person only had good things to say about this place.
The service is great, the owner of the place is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet! The lady at the front desk is a sweetheart as well.
Prices for the sushi here are the same as anywhere else, about $6 or $6.50 per regular roll, not too bad. The special rolls are a bit pricey though, about $10 to $11 each. All in all, if you decide to bring a date here, you wont be spending more than $50 on that date. Lunch specials are really cheap as well, took my co-worker here on a Saturday and we each got 2 rolls, soup, salad, spicy mayo, and tea. The bill came out to $26 - we just split it straight down the middle.
Now for the food, my favorite part!
Sushi - 9.5/10 - I have yet to be disappointed by the sushi here. My favorite is the Spicy Tuna, Boston, and Eel Avocado roll.
Miso Soup - Straight 10/10. Hands down, best miso soup i have ever had, period. No other sushi joint can compare.
Their appetizers are amazing as well. If i am really hungry, i get either the Kani Salad or the Garlic Edamame. Both are absolutely delicious. I give those appetizers a straight 10/10.
Dessert - Havent really tried the dessert menu all that much, but when i do, i always get the green tea ice cream because its delicious.
Now for the big stuff: Hibachi.
They have two hibachi tables next to each other. The first time i tried their hibachi was a couple of years ago, i decided to throw my 23rd birthday party here with family and friends. I set up a reservation a couple of days in advance to make sure we had our table ready. We got to the venue and we were seated and greeted immediately.
I decided to get my self the Chicken and Steak combo hibachi. It comes with rice and vegetables. My chicken was absolutely outstanding and my steak was medium rare, juicy, and delicious. Vegetable fried rice, nothing too special about it.
I decided to steal a piece of my friends fried shrimp and it was AMAZING! Must try!
The hibachi chef was very skilled, funny, and nice. Doesn't speak that much English but its okay!
I had such a great hibachi experience on my birthday that i ended up singing as i was walking out of the venue. First experience - 10/10.
Cant say the same about the second time i decided to do hibachi here. The Chicken was dry, steak was over cooked, food didn't have enough salt, vegetable fried rice had TOO much soy sauce. I was actually really disappointed. The service was surprisingly terrible and we were asked to give up our seats for a reservation that was coming in, which we were okay with. I guess it was an off day for them. Second Experience - 3/10.
Overall review:
Service - 8/10
Sushi - 9/10
Miso Soup - 10/10
Appetizers - 10/10
Hibachi - i would say 7/10 because they are inconsistent. On a good day you have a 10/10 experience, but on a bad day, anything goes.
Dessert - Cant comment much since i haven't really tried the whole menu
Venue - 8/10
Overall score - 8.5/10
Sushi Ya never disappoints. Love the beef negi to start. Specialty rolls offer great variety. Friendly and prompt service, too.
Sushi-Ya Rates an "A". My wife and I have been regulars (evenings only) at Sushi-Ya (Garden City location) for the past 7 years. At times, we have experienced the restaurant to be exceptionally crowded and at other times it is lightly patronized but never can I recall our having had a difficult or uncomfortable time with being served. However, if you are in a rush to "eat and run," you are likely to be disappointed, We were long time patrons of Kisso's located on Union Tpke in New Hyde Park but with Sushi-Ya being at a somewhat closer distance to our home, we had decided to give it a try and never have returned to Kisso's. Out front curb side parking opportunities are limited, but there is always ample free parking in the rear municipal lot. The staff and especially the owners, Kelly and Eric, are engaging and friendly. They do their best to make you feel welcomed on each visit. In our experience, the food is fine and the portions served are quite satisfactory. On a sliding scale rating of F- to A++, I rate our overall 7-year dining experience at Sushi-Ya to be an "A."
People here are so nice!! Food is awesome!! Must do!!!
All the sushi rolls were great, Phoenix and Rock and Roll rolls were stand outs. Even the salads were very good.
It's still amazing! It's a destination stop every time we are in Long Island!
I simply cannot rate Sushi Ya Garden City highly enough. We live in Delaware and it is our favorite sushi place because nothing in Delaware measures up. Kelly and Eric the owners are fantastic, and everything they make is devine. The quality and selection of sushi and sashimi is outstanding. The little touches like fresh wasabi (as opposed to the usual little green ball) are excellent. The pineapple fried rice served in a half pineapple shell are to die for. Hibachi is available. Simply in ambiance, service, and quality there is simply no place that is better. Give yourself a treat and spend some time here.
Good but not great. Pretty good sushi , plenty to choose from. The spring rolls are a bit too oily.
Amazing sushi!!! The owners were super friendly and the sashimi just amazing….love it
Our family loves this restaurant and it seems we end up visiting on a weekly basis! We eat sushi often, also making it at home, and think the quality here is great. The food is consistently fresh and prepared with care. Min is wonderful as well!
Awesome food! Super service! Fantastic time! Thank you Eric for an amazing dining experience!
A very nice sushi place. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were extremely friendly. The special rolls were unique and the prices were amazing for lunch. I highly reccomemd the Anthony roll, it was delicious and I never had anything like it before anywhere. If you find yourself in the garden city Mineola area and want some sushi this would be a good choice.
Everything we order is always delicious. Fish is amazing and always fresh. We have never been disappointed and the owners and staff are gracious and so welcoming. We have tried and enjoyed other places but keep coming back to Sushi Ya. The best.
Sushi was fresh. Server was nice. We got there closer to closing but they were so nice that they let us order again.
I’ve eaten at this establishment for many years and I can tell you that Sushi Ya has outstanding quality and service. As per their name, the sushi has ALWAYS been very fresh and I have never been let down. The “sushi ya” roll is my favorite. The Kobe beef is mouthwatering and delicious and the amazing service from the restaurant staff and the owners just add to the great experience. If you are reading this review with hesitation, trust me and go you will not regret it.
Their shrimp tempura roll is the best I’ve had, I’m sad I found them because im kinda obsessed now and will be going to them probably every time Im in the area
The finest hibachi kitchen and sushi bar in the area. The food is always delicious; from the various hibachi style dishes to the impeccable sushi rolls, there is no way you could go wrong. However, the truly hidden gem of this establishment is its wonderful staff and brilliant managment, Kelly and Eric. These two have created an atmosphere of comfort and familiarity in their humble yet luxurious dining area; that's why I make this a frequent stop if I'm ever in the mood for truly excellent food.
The wait staff was attentive. The food was prepared well and delicious. The menu had a wide selection to choose from. Our party was sitting in the outdoor section. It would have been a better experience if the outdoor seating was more comfortable. Also, the menu itself was not clear on what was included with certain entrees. Overall, a good experience that I would recommend to others looking for well priced Asian fusion in the area.
Went down the street to Sushi Ya after another restaurant was not as it seems and don’t regret a second of it! Got to sit outside in the beautiful weather and enjoy the nice Sake menu. The sushi was fresh, delicious and fast! Eric and Kelly, the owners are wonderful people and made sure we were taken care of that night, even inviting us in for a family gathering (buffet!!) just so we had something fun to do! Would go again and again! Thank you!!
Food is incredible always fresh always delicious. The staff and owners Kelly and Eric always pleasant And make everybody feel comfortable Would recommend this place to anybody
