Wife and I stopped in for lunch and had shrimp poboys. They were pretty good. The fries could of been fried twice, as they were soggy. The slaw was somewhat sweet but not what I usually like. Service was good on this visit.
We had a party of six. All from New Orleans so we know good seafood. Our food was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Service was great and prices were reasonable. Beautiful view of the Gulf. What more can you ask of a restaurant. We loved the place and will be back. Mike
Stopped in by chance, just driving by. Busy with a large late lunch diners. The food was fresh and tasty. I ordered grilled oysters, they were well prepared and five more than advertised. My wife's lunch menu of pasta and shrimp was s generous serving. I'd return for on evening meal.
Sunday lunch, oysters on the half shell were very good, gumbo was weak, have had better from a can. This is after all the MS Gulf Coast. Wife had chopped steak and categorized it as "alright". Service was good and liked dining around the locals. Nice view of the sound.
First time going there. We were looking for a good seafood restaurant and decided to try White Cap.The view was great, looking at the Gulf while eating. The pricing was good compared to other restaurants in the area.Service was great and our waitress was very good.We went around 5:00 pm on Saterday and was seated right away. But shortly after that, the was was out the door and a long wait. The food was good, not great but well worth the price.A few things we felt were overpriced ,like almost $20.00 for a doz of grilled oysters.I ordered a seafood platter. The oysters and scallops were very small but pretty good. But only a few scallops.I didn't care much for the devil crap.It was kinda mushy. It should have been backed a little to firm it up.The shrimp was a nice size and was great. The fish was good but nothing to write home about. My wife got grilled shrimp which was a nice size and very good.Onion rings was good but at $8.95 I thought it was a little pricey. Im sure there are better seafood restaurants our there but we will come back to White Cap and give it another try
Pleasently Suprised. On a recent Friday Night, the wife and I took in a family dinner at The White Cap. From the recent reviews I honestly wasn't expecting much. But, the wife was set on boiled shrimp and White Cap has them every night during season.
She ordered the Boiled Shrimp while I opted for the Redfish Fort Bayou.
She reported that her shrimp were very good, served with a nice cocktail sauce and a nice white remoulade sauce. My redfish was excellent, a pan seared redfish fillet with nice cream shrimp sauce. The redfish was prepared and seasoned very well and the cream sauce was the perfect compliment. The dish came with a side of steamed potatoes which were fine.
One note for those dining with kids, the kids spaghetti is not a typical red sauce, it's a seafood type red sauce which I thought tasted pretty good, but our 5 year old refused to eat it. The kids fish plate was fine for our little ones.
Good food. My friends and I have been to this restaurant a couple of times now while being here in town for work, we both liked it. The service was good and the fish of the day meal was fresh both times.
Jessica gave us AWESOME service. She should open a hospitality school! The Scampi and Mahi were delicious especially while enjoying the beautiful view. Don't miss the bread pudding! All homemade.
I like this restaurant but i didnt like crab cakes. It was more stuffing than crab. And the pasta was bland. I also did not like the gumbo. But the crab fingers were awesome. The view from the balcony...other than the traffic on 90 is pretty. I would say to eat here during lunch and have a poboy. They dont serve them at dinner, because i was told tbey have fresh bread delivered daily from louisiana. And they run out before dinner. So it must be good.
Had the lunch menu - food was really good. Service was ok, portions were good
I'll be back
Pleasant experience. Decided to stop at the white cap for lunch on 9/12/13 after having left an earlier destination that wasn't quite ready for lunch at lunch time. pulling into the white cap for lunch (around 1215p), it was evident there was something going on. the parking lot was abundantly full. i wondered if we'd even get a seat. once inside, we were greeted by a friendly hostess, and seated among the crowd. the surprise was in the food, obviously. once seated, unfortunately, we were left alone (no water, drink order or anything)for approximately 15 minutes and began contemplating leaving this place too. finally a waitress arrived for our order, apologizing and telling us there had been a "mix-up" with the wait staff assigned to our table (?). she squatted down to table level to take our order with her pad on our table (not too professional). Once she began to service us, the rest of the meal experience was flawless. I ordered a stuffed shrimp lunch platter, very reasonably priced at $7.95, and accompanied by a salad, and choice of buttered potatoes or french fries. my friend ordered the fried shrimp lunch platter which came with french fries or buttered potatoes.
complimentary hush puppies accompanied the meal. the food was delicious and plentiful. i will go there again.
Good beach style restaurant. Our dinner plans changed and we ate at White Cap because we really wanted some seafood with a view. The drive from Biloxi hotel to Gulfport was interesting with the scenery along the way. The restaurant was easy to find. The place was hopping but we were seated right away. We were in the middle row but still had a great view of the water and beautiful white sand. Our waitress, Lori, was very attentive and had a good sense of humor. We started with fried crab claws. They were served steaming hot and served with comeback sauce. My dinner salad was--please stand to clap and cheer for this place--served on a freezing cold metal salad plate! If you want to impress me, serve my salad on a cold plate! I was a teeny bit disappointed because Lori said the salad would have a pickle and it was missing. But ya know the cold plate made up for a lot! D got cold boiled shrimp which he must have liked because he ate only one of my jumbo fried shrimp. My fried shrimp was very lightly battered and fried until just lightly golden--cooked perfectly to retain moisture and texture. I liked the cocktail sauce. As another reviewer said, the tartar sauce was bizarre. They really need to work on that. The parsley potatoes were wonderful. I'm not a big hush puppie fan. If it was me making them I would add corn, jalapeños, onion, garlic and maybe cheddar cheese before hitting the deep fryer, but D liked them plain. You know how opposites attract.... I loved the cole slaw! It was better than KFC and you know that is saying volumes! We would definitely eat here again for the shrimp and crab claws and cold salad plate. :)
OK, but not special. Service was good, view was great, prices reasonable: very much the expected fried seafood at the beach experience. My only quibbles with the food are the shrimp (very fresh) had a little cornmeal on them, don't like that and they were not really seasoned at all. So close to Louisiana and they haven't learned the value of red pepper on seafood or salting them hot out of the fryer. The tartar sauce tasted like condensed apple juice: very sweet and no tang at all. Strange hamburger dill pickle on the salad: is this just cost saving over an actual cucumber? And the potato offerings were all bland too although the potato salad and parslied potatoes were both good. Liked the hush puppies. Would go back if I was in the area and in the mood for beach food but would not go out of my way for this.
Great fresh oysters!!! Wonderful stuffed flounder--- never had a bad experience there
Great view, food, and service. Southern hospitality at it's best. See ya in March!
We LOVE the White Cap!!!. We drive from Baton Rouge Louisiana to dine at the White Cap. It's one of our favorite restaurants and highly recommend it to everyone! The atmosphere is as good as the food!
Good food, nice atmosphere .i feel kids menu is pricey for no more than you get and doesn't include a drink with it.
Best Seafood we had while in the area. Grilled Oysters are amazing!
My stuffed shrimp was okay. The grilled shrimp was amazing though so that's what I'll be getting next time!

I AM NOT A SEAFOOD LOVER. I eat here when I have visitors from out if town who want to eat seafood, because I don't care for most fish much, it reminds me of cat food. Whitecap is okay. I always order catch of the day if it isn't an oily cat food like fish.
Great lunch or dinner location
As good as always. This was our first trip to White Caps since Katrina. Actually my first trip to Gulfport since then. This was always our favorite restaurant in the past. Ate there last night. The food was excellent as before. I had a cup of gumbo and a shrimp po boy. The gumbo was full of shrimp and some fish. No sausage or chicken that I noted like other places. The spiciness was just right for me. The accompanying hush puppies helped to cool my mouth. I ate every bite which is rare for me. Hubby had a cup also and had hoped he could finish mine. The shrimp po boy was as good as I remember also. Crispy fried shrimp served on flaky french bread. The sandwich was dressed with mayo, lettuce and tomato. It came with cole slaw and fried or parsley potatoes. I had the parsley potatoes which were ok and had a hint of garlic. Actually only ate a few bites since I had plenty to occupy me otherwise. My husband had the shrimp creole. He said it was very good and comparable to other shrimp creole he has had. My son had a ribeye steak with fries. His steak and hubby's shrimp creole came with hush puppies. I wish we had known we were getting hushpuppies with the various food as we had ordered some as a side/appetizer. With all the hush puppies there were plenty and we did not need that extra order. Of course, hubby also ate almost all the side order which looked like it contained about 6. Over all, this was an excellent meal and well worth the trip.

Just what you think it is.. Good ol' Mississippi seafood. Nothing fancy, just what you'd expect from this kind of place. Had the gumbo and the seafood platter. Wish I would have gotten more gumbo. Great view of the Gulf and outrageously good service. Even bought a t-shirt.
The White Cap Restaurant--tradition and memories. The White Cap has been a part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for generations. Hurricane Katrina very rudely swept their former building off it's location in a matter of a few hours. From what I heard, the owners wanted to rebuild in their original location but the city of Gulfport had other ideas. The refurbishing and development of the port at Gulfport had no place for the White Cap in it's old location out at the tip of the marina. The owners already owned the lot the new White Cap has been built upon, so this was a logical decision to put the new restaurant where it now stands. The view is very nice even though Highway 90 now separates it from the beach. There is an outdoor porch for dining when the weather is pleasant that has the same pretty view. The restaurant itself has huge windows to allow all diners a nice view of the Gulf of Mexico.
The food at the White Cap is also traditional Mississippi Coast style, fried seafood accompanied with fried hush puppies, french fries OR parsleyed potatoes and a side salad OR cole slaw. The seafood is local (except for the catfish, which is from North Mississippi ponds) and even the menu is the same menu, literally, that was used in the old location.
There are a few 'new' options however, grilled oysters and shrimp, some grilled fish but basically things are just like they used to be. To the locals, this is very comforting, as so few things are 'the same' after Katrina. And the fried and grilled seafood is just the way I like it and is very good, made traditionally...I want fresh MS Gulf shrimp, crab, fish and oysters...although after the BP oil spill the oysters have come from Louisiana or Alabama or even Florida. When the oyster beds recover I am sure local oysters will return to the menu. I have no reservations about eating the local Gulf seafood as my job brings me 'inside' information about the safety of our seafood and it is carefully checked for contaminants regularly and is SAFE.
White Cap offers 'old school' prepared seafood and it brings back memories of happy days AND is very tasty! That's good enough for me!
I like to eat saltines with butter spread on them as I wait for my food...another tradition in the White Cap! A basket of saltines with the little containers of butter is brought to the table along with your 'sweet tea'.
The White Cap offers me a familiar and pleasant dining experience!
Very good bang for your buck! Everything was delicious and the service was great! Lovely view as well :)
I am form our of town and drove by this place and decided to stop. I am glad I did. My waiteress was very friendly and was vet helpful with questions about the local area. My food was deivered promptly ad was delicious and hot. I highly recomend this restaurante. I know I want to go back and I am a very critical person.
Outstanding. I visited them last year, the first time I've dined at the new post-Katrina location. While I miss the on-the-water experience of the old location, the food was just as good as ever. I had fried shrimp and fried oysters and they were both superb. This restaurant is a very old tradition on the Coast and one meal there will tell you why they have survived so long. I highly recommend this restaurant.
AMAZING and GOOD PRICES!. My boyfriend and I recently went to White Caps and let me tell you it was unbelievable!!! The service was awesome, we got there at 7:20, food was out before we could finish our salads and we were done with everything before 8:30. The waitress was so nice and friendly! I never had to ask for anything NOT EVEN a to~go cup (which I get one at every place I go). I got the boiled shirmp and they were so amazing, perfect flavor, and easy to peel!!! My bf got the crawfish Anthony- which is a pasta with crab meat, angel hair pasta and crawfish!! That was awesome too!!! Our bill was $27!! I CAN NOT WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!
Grilled Oysters. I eat at White Cap at least twice a month - I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. I brought a friend from NOLA a couple of weeks ago and ordered the grilled oysters for the first time; the were as good as any I've ever eaten anywhere!
Excellent food. The food was excellent and served extremely quickly. The stuffed shrimp are an absolute must-have!
Great Seafood at White Cap. Last weekend my husband and I took a drive down to the coast. We're from New Orleans. We felt like eating a seafood dinner, but weren't really sure where we would go. We were driving along the coast hwy, when all of a sudden I spotted the White Cap Seafood Restaurant. We had eaten at White Cap when it was on the other side of the road down the road where they have the tour boat to Ship Island., Anyway, we stopped to eat and we were VERY VERY PLEASED. The raw oysters were awesome, nice and big, the salad was great, love their blue cheese dressing. I had a combo plate of fried shrimp and fried oysters along with red potatoes and a hush puppy. I saw that they had bread pudding so I had to try that. My husband and I split one because it's good sized piece. It was good, but I'm not a big coconut lover, so didn't care for it in the bread pudding. But other than that it was pretty good. So all in all, I definitely recommend this restaurant. In fact, I'm going to try and convince my husband that we need to take another little drive to the coast this weekend to have a repeat delicious meal like last week.
Three generations of exceptional seafood makes the White Cap one of the few remaining family restaurants left in South Mississippi. I had an oyster salad, a cold, cold brew and bread pudding. It was a memory lane moment since White Cap used to be one of my favorite lunch and dinner places back in the previous century. The oysters were cooked to perfection, lightly breaded and succulent. The bread pudding was full of raisins and was among the top three best ever. Even though the White Cap moved from its former location in Jones Park to a safer spot down the highway, their tradition of well seasoned, properly prepared seafood and friendly, prompt service has not changed.
Stopped in for a bite. Seated quickly. Friendly staff. Barq's in a bottle! Delicious seafood gumbo. The raw oysters were big and very tasty. The broiled oysters were cooked and seasoned just right. Even the fried dills were a good balance of breading! Over all, 100%! Definitely recommend. I am glad I stopped back in on an old favorite visiting home. So worth it!
I always eat here when I'm on the Gulf! Love the view and food and drinks are always delicious 😋! White Cap is my favorite spot to eat at on the Coast! Their service is always great👍! If you haven't been you must try! You won't be disappointed!
Excellent experience!!!! Great attentive service, high quality foods.
You can absolutely tell they care about the food they serve, the oil is always fresh!!!
Went for lunch for Valentine's Day.
What a treat! Seafood was fresh and tasty. Decent prices. Wait staff was friendly. I ordered the seafood combo.
Delicious food with a fabulous view of the Mississippi Sound. I had the fried shrimp salad and my husband had grilled Mahi with potatoes and a side salad. The food was very fresh, cooked and seasoned perfectly. The dining area is beautiful and comfortable. The portion sizes are quite small, but maybe that was because we ordered off the lunch menu. The service was excellent. I recommend this restaurant.
