You have to get the onion rings...they are totally amazing! I almost always get a hamburger and fries...you won't go hungry leaving here! This is really a cool place and a lot of fun stuff to look at while you are there. I definitely recommend this place!
Have eaten here a few times and have only been disappointed with the food once. I have had the chicken fried steak, which was enormous; I took half home and a family shared my dinner. Gravy could use a little more seasoning as could potatoes but otherwise very good. Their steaks are amazing! Had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. They have a salad bar with a nice selection. This seems to be something that has disappeared from restaurants and I really enjoy theirs. The meal I didn't care for was the catfish which had that "dirty" taste. That happens a lot with catfish it seems. I suggest trying it. Friendly staff, decent prices. Their desserts look fabulous but haven't sampled.
Excellent sweet tea. Food was really good.
Had the BBQ sliced brisket sand which with homemade onion rings. The staff was really good and helpful.
I always like to go local before chain. This place is local and very very good!!! Really varied menu which can be a bad sign, but every one at our table was really happy with their order, and full!! If you leave here hungry... it's your own damn fault. The burgers were good and generous serving of fries too. There was a chicken fried steak at the table that needed its own chair... this thing was huge and delicious, very tender cut of beef. I had the rib basket. It was more like a half a rack. Plenty of ribs that were moist and tender, great smoke ring. Sauce on the side, where it should be. If it's on the food, it's hiding something!!! These ribs didn't need sauce. With a helping of onion rings that would serve four people, and they were very good too... I often get disappointed ordering rings, because I expect them to be like what I was raised on Dyers BBQ and Zebbies BBQ in Pampa Texas. I'll be back!!!!
Best restaurant in Guthrie!!!. The food is splendid, the service quick... I can't wait to go back!!!
Food was good, but due to very bad service and the place being dirty with spider webs hanging from ceiling we prob won't b back. Sorry. Seems to b a common complaint here.
Chicken fried steak is good but BBQ is only okay. I am a BBQ hound, so when I saw the BBQ shack outside of this restaurant, I got excited about the possibilities. I ordered the 1/2 rib dinner with beans, coleslaw, Texas toast, and onion rings. I really wanted to get burnt ends in place of the ribs because it is rare to see a place in OK that offers burnt ends. However, our server would not allow me to substitute one of my chosen sides for the French fries that come with the burnt ends basket.
The ribs came out tender and with good caramelization on top. There was not as much smoky flavor as I like to find. The BBQ sauce was not anything special but did complement the ribs well. The coleslaw and beans were rather pedestrian. As another poster has noted, their beans could use some seasoning, or else they could take a cue from Swadley's BBQ and offer spicy beans in addition to their regular beans.
My date got the chicken fried steak and said that it was quite good. The portion is large, but that is not because there is a whole lot of breading. Instead, you get a fair amount of actual steak. In addition, she enjoyed the salad that she got with the salad bar trip that came with her meal.
This place could probably make better BBQ if they decided to reduce the amount of things offered on their menu. Otherwise, they may as well just embrace the diner concept and add an all-day breakfast section.
Food was good but service was not. I went here with my boyfriend and two friends after the Zombie Bolt 5K today. I really loved the location and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The decorations were very cool.
When we got there, we were seated quickly but it took a while for the waitress to come and take our order. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with a salad bar. The steak was cooked very well and the mashed potatoes and gravy had a slight sweet taste to it. The steak was not overly breaded and had a good seasoning to it. It was very good. They had a great selection of deserts but we were all very full.
The downside is much like the majority of the posters has stated, service. The average wait for food was about 30 minutes and we barely saw our server.
So overall, good food but just be prepared for a wait.
My wife and I drive from south oklahoma city just to eat here. There sweet tea is the best, the BBQ buffet on the weekends is great also has a great salad bar. This place has awesome character with its old signs and classic decor. Well worth the drive.
Excellent Burgers!. Burgers are wonderful! Delicious!
They make the most consistently delicious steaks in town.
This restaurant is really cool inside to start. We visited on New Years Day. Food was really good; nice portions. Service was a little slow; but they were short handed due to someone going home sick. Great place for a family.
Good food, reasonable prices, HUGE portions. Seems like a winning combo, except that service (though friendly) is a bit on the slow/less attentive side.
Love love love. I love stables!!!! food is so awesome!
Great place and good service. Always friendly. Food is great. BBQ and steak are usually my top pick. Worth trying.
SO.MUCH.FOOD.. For what we paid the quantity was astounding. Besides being massive the chicken fired steak was delicious and along with the fries it made the salad bar unnecessary. While it was not fancy by any means the salad bar had a very nice selection, especially for someone that doesn't care for salads. The rib meal was also massive and tasty. The gigantic pile of onion rings (straws?) that came with it was a shock. The great bark on the ribs was nice to see. For less than $30 dollars this was a fantastic meal. I would definitely return to try other things and recommend it to anyone with a large appetite.
For my last meal.... My last meal request could very well be their charred end rib basket with onion straws. I seriously cannot get enough! I always say I will get something different, and then I hear myself ordering the rib ends. Great prices too. Friendly staff and usually we get seated quickly.
Great Place. Just FYI the parking sucks but once your in sit back and enjoy. If you stay downtown it is in walking distance of the better B&B's. The servings are huge, my tater was alomost as big as a nerf football. We could have shared and paid the extra couple dollars for another salad. but then again we woudlnt have had some great left overs. Bottom line, great food for the price, the people were nice and the place was clean. Well worth the trip.
Great onion rings and burgers and fries!
Never Disappointed!. I've dined at Stables more times than I can count and have never been dissatisfied! Since I've moved to Bethany I don't get that way as often as I would like.
The list of my favorites would consist of the complete menu, to include the salad bar. A short list of must eats would be, the sliced brisket sandwich, the crazy giant plate of shoestring onion rings, ribs...oh yes the ribs, the chicken fried steak alone is worth the trip. The hot links are fantastic, along with the burgers, but a must try would be the BBQ!!!
I've been coming to Stables since I was little, it's a great place to just get together and have amazing ribs, delicious desserts and just an all around good time
Very good food served in a nostalgic atmosphere. A Guthrie original well worth the drive from OKC.

Great place!. This is my family's favorite restaurant! We drive from OKC a couple of times a month! The food is always fresh and great! I see everyone complaining about the wait, well I would rather wait a little bit than have crappy food! I love the atmosphere! Very family friendly! The bar-b-q is the best around and the onion rings are to die for!
Onion Rings Trademark. Remember how Jakes in Chickasha brings your plate with heaping curly fries? The Stables does the same thing except it's with breaded fried onions. Not so much "rings" as just tasty Vidalia onions. Take this into account when ordering because it's easy to want to eat those and fill up quickly. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was good. The young waitress was pleasant although I waited a little longer than I deemed necessary for my food to arrive. However, when it did, it was hot and good. It's a great place to dine for lunch or dinner and I think family dining is a good description here. The decor is antiques and stuff like that, but it's very clean and the food is good. Worth a shot if you're in the Guthrie area.
If you have never had chili cheese spaghetti, then you need to make the drive to Guthrie and check it out at this place. The stables has a great rustic atmosphere and it is family oriented. They do everything right at this place, you cannot go wrong by ordering anything on their menu.

Let this be a lesson to you.... When I was younger and well, less educated in the ways of the world shall we say, I would go to a restaurant and order regardless of the specialty of the restaurant. The first time I went to the Stables, I had some yuppie thing, I don't remember. Didn't like it, and didn't go back. Years later, family got together there, and my in-laws said they always got the "Burnt Ends Basket" and shared it. So my husband I did too. It's basically BBQ rib ends - burnt more or less - with onion "rings." Plenty for both of us for $8.95. The BBQ is good, the sauce good. The onion rings are made from Vidalia or some such onion, and I love them well salted with a big ice cold Dr. Pepper. Elegant foodie food? Not so much. More like a not-so secret vice. But a lesson to me: get what they're good at, you'll be a lot happier in the long run. BTW, I agree with the previous posts -- sloowww.
Buffet Sensitive Barbeque Fan Looking at His Watch. FOREWARD EDITORIAL: Self-service buffets have got to be the most unsanitary places this side of a hog farm. You will see people eat while serving themselves, licking their fingers as they handle the same utensils you're family is about to use and worst. Did that kid wash his hands before he left the latrine? I sure hope that sneeze guard guards against influenza!...Can we get a state law here folks? The Clean Plate Statute isn't handling everything.
Enought said about buffets.
"Mom and Pop" Guthrie eateries seem to come and go with the changing seasons. The only constant choice seems to be the Stables. We've had their fare a dozen times over the past five years and offer this review:
Advise: If you have less than an hour to eat, head for the KFC value menu! Your only chance of making it out of the Stables in less than 75 minutes is taking the (gulp!) buffet option. Beware! It is a pricey, last-chance-to-eat-anywhere-but-fast-food comprimise in taste and hygeine.
If you would rather gamble on time than cleanliness, please make wait staff well aware you are on a deadline.
Everything MUST be very fresh! Menu items must still be grazing and/or growing at the time orders are posted in the kitchen. That's the only excuse simple food could have for taking so long.
Don't worry if your soft drink glass goes dry while waiting on your food. There's no chance of it getting refilled before the main course arrives. Besides, you can always eat your ice).
The ambiance is rustic Americana at its finest. It hasn't changed in the last half-decade either....I hope they dust!
You're still wondering why we go here, right?
Well, the menu has awesome variety and everything has always been hot and tasty on arrival. No, this ain't Tavern on the Green, it is down-to-earth barbeque and other Southern comfort foods with tasty sauces and dressings. Breads are fresh, portions are huge and (menu) prices are reasonable. Remember, there aren't a lot of choices here.
Time is running out, the show starts in less than an hour! Uh oh; looks like you'll be eating off of the buffet.
Hey, did that cowboy dishing up the peach cobbler just cough without cover?
Best in town. Excellent food, HUGE portions, horrible service. Their brisket is wonderful and their BBQ sauce is great.

The decor inside will keep you entertained. They have antique signs and objects that make you wonder what the branding people were thinking. All in all, a great place to relax in a small little historic town. Check out their great menu options.
We absolutely loved this place. Food was so delicious. We tried the buffet. Okra and Mac and cheese we were not too crazy about BUT the hamburger meat and fish were a solid 10 ! The salad bar also 10 highly recommend it and the staff were friendly our waitress was Bella and she went above and beyond and was very friendly and sweet ! Will return again and try off the menu . The whole theme and decorations were awesome and the atmosphere was just great !
We hadn't been to this place in quite some time but nothing much had changed. The seating was a bit rocky at the beginning, it seemed like everyone was too busy but once we got seated the service was good. My burger was huge, so flavorful and I had forgotten how much I love their onion strings! My husband's rib basket was so big he had plenty to take home for later. They only downside was that the ribs were very charred on the outside; if you don't like your ribs crispy they might not be the best ones for you. Don't forget that you pay at the register by the door and not at the table. You'll be glad you tried it.
Really enjoyed the appetizer (potato skins with brisket) but had to wait for app plates and napkins. Salad was decent but basic. Ribs and coleslaw were good, beans ok. Waitress was good about keeping our drinks filled
Excellent dining experience! Antique and cozy decor reminds me of Cracker Barrel but authentic. Fantastic Food. Someone had the classic cheeseburger and someone else had the BBQ and of course I had the chicken fried steak. We all plan on returning as the food was that good.
Food was good but have you heard of salt, pepper and garlic seasoning? The food lacked flavor like it was made for folks at the nursing home watching their salt intake. The best part was the salad bar.
Restaurant is nice and they have good music.
Love the atmosphere food was great service was a little slow but they were very busy and really polite about it
The food was great. The salad bar was phenomenal! However, the whole time I was preparing my salad, two employees were working slowly and complaining about a third employee right in front of me. I’m scared to wonder what they might have been saying about this person if I wasn’t standing right there. They never spoke to me to greet me or anything, nor did they move to make it any easier for me to reach the salad dressings they were slightly blocking. My presence was noticed, then ignored. I had to walk back around to the other side instead of making a full circle around the island to get everything. They just complained a lot. The salad was still awesome.
We sat in the tap room, and the bartender was just sweet as could be. She really took care of us and made a great experience of our visit! I definitely feel the experience was as great as it was because of her. Don’t get me wrong- it’s a great place on her days off, too, I’m sure- but she really brought something extra to an already great place. I wish I could remember her name! But I hope the owners/management take REALLY good care of her. My review here would be slightly less positive if she had not been working that day.
The feel of the place and decor is pretty cool, too. It’s the sort of decor you can walk around to look at things and not feel like a weirdo. It’s got a great vibe! The only real downside of my visit was the publicly griping ladies at the salad bar, but I wouldn’t feel right docking stars from a review. Their poor attitudes will catch up to them without me needing to knock a great restaurant over it!
Note: I didn’t realize until I wrote this that I really only got pictures of the bathroom decor. 😂 I promise the rest of the place looks great, too!
