Top notch service, but mediocre food. Servers were extremely attentive and food arrived rather swiftly. Fried green tomatoes were lackluster, the sauce was like watered down tomato soup. The gumbo was undistinguished. Our fried shrimp and oyster combo plate was good and the Caesar salad was heaped with cheese - nice.
They offer military, first responder discounts.
The food is always fresh and delicious!! Service has always been excellent. The atmosphere is great just not good with kids when it gets really busy.

I went to Cate's a couple times while I was at SELU, always sticking to the American/Cajun part of the menu. It was good, definitely better than average, but considering how many restaurants have similar offerings in Louisiana, I can't say it was amazing or unusually awesome.
Recently I finally tried the sushi. The fact that Cate's has a sushi menu - and a fairly extensive one at that - does set it apart from most American/Cajun restaurants. I always thought it was odd and would be iffy quality, but me and my unrefined sushi palette enjoyed the two sushi rolls I got, with preference going to the BBQ Yellowtail roll.
Overall Cate's isn't revolutionary, but it's a solid choice, particularly for groups where some people want sushi and the rest don't.
On a side note, I find Cate's restrooms to be odd. They have interesting decor, but the dividing wall between two of the stalls only went up to my nose, which is awkward, especially since I'm only about 5'5" or 5'6". Also, none of the stalls had working locks.
UPDATE: Cate Street has nigiri, and I've found that they are one of the few places that offers that as a menu option. Ditto for the Ramune Japanese soda. These rarer offerings have bumped my rating from 3.5 to 4.0.
8 dollar lunch special was fantastic. The hamburger steak was size able as well as the rest of the items. Sides were fresh and delicious. I recommend this place for the lunch special but the whole atmosphere was great. Could definitely be a popular dinner place as well. It has a nice bar as well.
Great. Love going to Cate Street. I like how they have something for everyone. I love the sushi. My son and other family members don't eat sushi so they will order chicken tenders, catfish, shrimp etc... Which makes this a great option for large parties.
Just awesome. Best cajun and sushi combo you could ask for.

Great experience with our large group!! Found them via Urbanspoon! With one hour's notice they accommodated our group of 22 (9 kids included) on a busy Saturday night. Sat us within ten minutes of our arrival with the call ahead. Service was exceptional and food was very tasty and timely. So many choices that everyone was satisfied and the casual atmosphere worked for this travel ball team! If back in Hammond we will definitely visit again! Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great selection. Great location.
First time eating at Cate Street was awesome! Out waitress went through the menu with us and pointed out her favorites. Started with the spinach and artichoke dip which was so good my 2 year old ate some. Then had the seafood pesto pasta and it was amazing! The sushi looked beautiful and will try next time. Thanks to our waitress Heather for a great experience!!

Food and service is ok. This restaurant is pretty good but not very very good. Depending on what you order the quality ranges from high to just ok. Service is usually alright but not great. I'd give it a 70%
First I would like to say, the sweet Tea is some of the best I've had, it was really good. I ordered the chicken Teryaki and it was splendid. Recommend highly, great service :)
The sushi I had last Saturday night was excellent, but they actually had the b*lls to serve me a burned hamburger and crinkle cut fries today at lunch. Will stick with sushi in the future.
Arguably the Best. Cate Street has arguably the best food in Hammond. It has been consistent throughout the years, and has a versatile menu that would satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. This place is a gem!
Passing thru town. This place was a hit in my opinion. Was passing through town on business and had no clue where to go here. Tried it out and had a cup of smoked sausage & seafood gumbo. Then had the Dozen Wing special for $4.60. Yes that cheap. I was expecting a normal sized wing. Wow was I wrong. These huge 12 wings would be enough for about 3 or 4 people ha. The polonesian wings were better than the buffalo style. I will/would come back.
One of my regular stops in Hammond. We have been eating at cate street for a few years. The crab combo is good. The sushi is great and very reasonably priced. A well run restaurant with good food and usually good service. I would recommend it.
300 roll sushi was very good and the bartender was friendly and attentive.
I love the fact that they sell ramune. I always get the Cate Street roll when I go. Its huge!! There's like 6 or 7 different kinds of fish in it and its quickly deep fried for a nice crispy crunch. Get the eel sauce over it and enjoy!
Excellent!. I ordered the soft shell crab poboy and my husband had the hamburger steak with fried okra and potatoes. Everything was excellent. Best soft shell crab I've had in years. Service was great. We will definitely be back.

Yummy. One of my favorite sushi places of all time. I love their CJ roll. The service was only so-so though.
Good sushi, good variety, and great value. Service sometimes is lacking but its not fine dining.I recommend asking for Heather if you go, she waited on us last time and did a great job. Also the bonzai boom is the best app I think that I have had in a while.
Favorite sushi place. I've had nothing but good experiences at Cate Street. From time to time, we'll get a waiter who is less than enthusiastic but usually we get good service. The sushi pizza is AMAZING, the 2 for 1 crazy trains are great and their rolls always taste great! Other great things to try are the spicy edamame and snow crab salad.

Loved the place. Great variety. Sushi, seafood, steaks, pasta, etc.. There was something for everyone in our party. I personally had the sushi and it was fantastic. Definitly on par with Kirin. Service wasn't fantastic, but was good. Highly recommended.

The building is a converted train station, with great character. Sydney is an efficient server and couldn’t have been more helpful. Our food came out quickly. The pepper jack bites were perfect. The steak tips, fried okra, and garlic potatoes were tasty, and my oyster po’boy was wonderful. We were too full for dessert, but they sounded good. We would eat there again. The sushi looked beautifully prepared, and I would like to try it.
Nice spot in Downtown Hammond. Great ambience. Very friendly and courteous staff. The family was in the mood to try another place to eat. My son had been here before and so we hopped in. We had the crawfish pies for appetizers. No complaints here and they give you some dipping sauce to go with it. Wife and son ordered some sushi rolls and clear soup. I ordered the hamburger steak with string beans and fried garlic potatoes. The wife had sirloin tips with broccoli plus rice&gravy. We had a good time.
We have been to Cate Street twice recently and let me tell you, I could not have been more impressed. Parker was our server both times and the service was excellent. I had the Tuna Steak and my wife grabbed a few sushi rolls. Presentation and food quality were spot on both times! Well done Cate Street Crew! Highly recommend this spot!

Loved the atmosphere. I sat in the Bar because there was a 45 minute wait for a table. I sat at a side table and the Bartender came and waited on me right away. I ordered a cocktail and she made it taste really good. The menu is large and has a lot of interesting things I wanted to try, but I decided on Sushi, and that was an excellent choice. It was very fresh and more than I could eat, so I was able to take home a Doggy Bag. Excellent food and service. I will be back.
