The rare mix of tasty, authentic-seeming dishes alongside a pleasant ambiance. I’d had Chef Tan’s on my to-try list for a while and after a visit to Rutgers this week I was finally able to try it. Naturally we ordered their Mapo tofu, and then also ordered bok choy with garlic, their fried fish, and a classic dish involving beef and peppers whose exact name escapes me. And it was all delicious! If I lived or worked closer to the area I’d visit more frequently because their food is comfort food for me. Their menu has many items, shows many photos and is in both English and Chinese. Looking forward to another visit sometime before long.

This restaurant is a hidden gem for gourmet Chinese food lover. Everything was delicious on the point. Nothing less and nothing more! Really Balance. Located in a corner in Highland Park main street perfect. The staff very friendly and knowledgeable. A nice Chinese experience. Thank you

Authentic Chinese with a focus on Hunan style. Each dish we tried was flavorful and not prepared in advance.

Fancy Chinese restaurant. The prices were expensive, but the food, the service, and the atmosphere were all good! They were very helpful going through the menu when I explained that I’m vegan and wanted to better understand my options. They gave me many choices and alternatives to some of their listed items.

Delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes. The shredded potatoes, seaweed salad and eggplant are all excellent.

In a COVID setting, this place is pretty socially distanced and everyone is masked up unless they are eating. UPDATE not every waiter wears a mask but maybe about half of them still do as of June 2021. Great place if you’re looking for some spicy food! I really liked the Beef and Tripe appetizer. It is a cold and spicy dish that gives your mouth a slight numbing. The dandan noodles were also a delicious appetizer. Eggplant with garlic sauce is my go to dish and theirs is tasty. Was not a huge fan of the spicy and crispy short ribs. The taste was great but there isn’t much meat, just cartilage and breading. Majority of the staff was nice but there was one waiter who was pretty rude. Still, I definitely recommend a try if you are in the area.

Very pleasant restaurant. Atmosphere was nice. Food was good, not great though. I will definitely go back. Service was interesting...wondering if its only because it wasn't busy but the waiter didn't pass by the table much. I had to seek their attention actively whenever we needed anything. Now I was seriously hoping for a really spicy experience but we all found it very lacking in heat...other than that plates were well sized. Will add pictures next time we go...I was too hungry and didn't take pictures lol
