We ordered the curry paste with egg noodles, , tea salad, bahnmi with French dip and added pho. The bahnmi did not disappoint. The curry paste with egg noodles was recommend by our server. It was flavorful just like she said. the brisket was on the tough side, it would be nice if they come in smaller pieces. For tea salad, it was a bit too sour for my liking, I have had better. With that said, I still felt a lot of thoughts were put into the menu and food which I appreciate. We sat right next to the open kitchen and saw how the big guy chef making sure the staffs were doing their job. He checked every plate that went out, and pointed out things that need additional attention. From what I could see, they kept everything clean and tidy, the entire crew has high discipline and on their toes like I was watching some cooking show. One star is taken off because we waited more than 35 mins for our order. It must have been missed at the first place, but our server was nice.
The dishes at Piggy Smalls are totally unique. Every dish we had was great. Even my picky 6 year old finished the entire kid's pasta dish.
We had the crispy cheese dumplings which was a totally OG spin on the traditional ramen shop gyoza. The chopped chicken liver toast was a really good starter and I don't even eat liver. The sirloin cap steak was perfectly cooked and the included salad was a perfect pairing. The uni, anchovy, and garlic spaghetti was also popular at our table. A little pricey, but overall an excellent meal.
Fantastic upscaled Fusion Vietnamese cuisine in a casual setting. Servers were all great, food for the most part was excellent . The "cheese dumplings" were a tad underwhelming - just gyoza which, after being steamed, are pan fried in cheese until the cheese burns - but everything else was incredibly delicious (it's so hard to get uni pasta where I'm from!) and I would recommend this spot wholeheartedly.
This review is dedicated to the amazing owner and our server Christopher. My family had a dissatisfied experience at their other restaurant which prompted me to reach out to management. The owner personally followed up with me, resolved the issue and invites my entire family to this other restaurant of his, Piggy Smalls. He had Christopher server us for the night and Christopher was amazing and attentive. We were served with multiple dishes. The taste was great. But what made my family satisfied was how accommodating they were the entire night. Bringing dish after dish and explaining what the dishes were, Christopher was very friendly and knowledgeable with 17 yrs of restaurant experience. I definitely recommend this restaurant to all tourists who would like to get good food and good service
Piggy Smalls is a nice Vietnamese fusion place right in the mall. It was great that there was free parking close by, a rarity in Honolulu. We had the Le fried chicken wings, Burmese tea salad, ahi toast, vegan pho, pho French dip bahn mi, and bo ca ri ga (beef brisket stew). The chicken wings were crispy and tasty with a delicious sauce. I've never had tea salad that didn't have tea leaves in it but it was still pretty good although it didn't have the flavor balance or crispness of a traditional Burmese tea salad. I really enjoyed the ahi toast, the garlic pickle was excellent, I only wish it was a little bigger as it felt like an appetizer even though it was coupled with the other mains. The bahn mi was pretty good but lacked the quick pickles and egg butter that I associate with a bahn mi. It was good but not what I expected which left me a little disappointed. Finally, the bo ca ri ga was a beef brisket stew with carrots and potatoes with egg noodles and it was nicely seasoned broth with a light curry flavor. It was a little heavy in feel but still delicious although I wish it was a little more spicy. Overall it was good but I don't know that I would go out of my way to go here.
Invited by a friend and his family for dinner. It was a set manu for total of eight course meal.
The waiter told us the table was not ready for us with most polite manner and voice!
We(total of 17 of us) was seated at the outside booth!
All the dishes from the starter to desert was wonderful and tasty! Also the portions are big and well seated!
We have nothing to complain but praise.
Visit on Saturday, i am happy to see minimalistic and modern decor for this Vietnamese restaurant. However I was quite disappointed with our of the daily special noodles soup with curry cream and brisket, the soup was very salty, I wonder this is a one-time mistake! Sorry not enjoyed it.
Interesting fusion cuisine.
To much salt.
Undefined after taste.
I had a slight reaction to the crispy cheese dumplings.
I had a strong reaction to the smell of the pho.
Awesome meal! Lovely staff!
We decided to order takeout because the wait was an hour. The food was ready in less than 20mins. The chops with the Kale was delicious! Nice size portions too. My friend doesn’t like Kale but loved theirs! As we were waiting outside a staff member offered us seats, which was so kind of him😀. It was the best meal we had in Honolulu.
Been here a few times. The atmosphere is great. Service is good. Make reservations online to make it easy. Most of the food is great as you can see by any of the pictures.
The bun bo hue for myself was a little disappointing as it was not spicy, over powered by the shrimp paste which made the broth too salty.
Would recommend the spring rolls. The meat itself is not salty. The peanut sauce just brings it all together
Great food, service and location. Plenty of parking. We sat outside with no reservations. Please make one if you want to ensure a spot inside. Nice outside though. The Brussel sprouts were awesome....definitely coming back to try other dishes...
The ahi toast was good and the tea salad was very unique. The pho, banh mi, and cheese dumplings were alright.
My fiancé and I just ate lunch at Piggy Smalls and were blown away by the experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. We ordered the ahi toast, chicken wings, brussel sprouts, and chicken liver bahn mi.
Long lost of Hawaii local beers. It's of shareable plates with meat and vegetable options.
Main entrees and soups are meat/fish focused.
Burmese Tea Salad was really good as were brussel sprouts. The Bun Thai soup (Thursdays) was decent but the shrimp were mushy and the brisket had more fat than meat.
Friendly service was on top of orders but gave plenty of room and time to the table.
This was our final dinner in Oahu and was pleased with Piggy Smalls as our choice. Showed up on Saturday around 6 PM and was asked if we had reservations? We didn't, but were in luck as they had openings outside. The outside dining area was actually what we were aiming for anyways since they had the a/c blasting inside. We ordered their Laotian Fried Chicken (LFC), ceviche and Burmese salad. The wings were really good, but only if you like fish sauce. If not, do not order this dish. The ceviche was a little on the bland side, so we spiced it up by pouring some of the fish sauce from the LFC onto the ceviche. It tasted much better afterwards. Finally, the Burmese salad. This salad was light and had some good flavor, but it seemed to miss something. More citrus or more salt? I'm not sure, but it wasn't very satisfying. The staff was attentive, fast and friendly. I was just a little disappointed when I asked the waiter if the owners were huge fans of Notorious B.I.G. He replied not really, just that the play on his name was cool.
Got the wings half order and bun bo hue. First off, everyone here is nice af. Thank you, fr. The wings were so good thank you lemongrass. The bun bo hue was a little salty for my liking. Nice waitress recommended sumn else and I shoulda listened. Some cream cheese wonton, I think it was a new item. Anyway learn from me, order what the nice people recommend.
Piggy Smalls turned out to be more hype than we expected. The chicken wings were probably our favorite dish apart from the truffle pasta. Our seafood soup was on the sweet side and the cheese wontons were not too comparable to most other places. I would probably not go back for a second time.
Great food & excellent service! I love the eclectic menu & the fun selection of non-alcoholic drinks
We had the Butter Beer Slushy (which was like heaven in a cup) and the Tumeric Tonic (light, refreshing, not super sweet). And split the specialty salad. We also had the Pork Belly & Duck Bolonaise. Both were excellent.
We had reservations for 6 on Sat. When we got there, the place was bustling & pretty packed, both inside & outside.
Will definitely be back!
The vegan pho is like a sleeper hit, my whole family who loves beef pho said this was their favorite dish of the night! Very great version of the classic Vietnamese noodle - with hand cut rice noodles, very savory mushroom and Pho spices make an addicting broth
The service was so nice and attentive, everyone had a good sense of humor and energy.
