My friends and I really wanted to try local, traditional Hawaiian food. While we understand it might be hard to do, we did feel that this restaurant is closest to traditional Hawaiian food.
Food was tasty and healthy. The desert was simple but excellent. It was exactly what we were looking for. An experience that you cannot find in Waikiki.
I would encourage foodie visiting Honolulu to come here to try this shop's food. Waikiki food is too tailored for the visitor's taste bud.
Tried the pork kalua bowl, but felt that it didn't have much flavor. Came to try Hawaiian food and I'm sure it's pretty authentic, just I guess not for my palette.
One of the last real Hawaiian food restaurants around. The food is ono. The kind of place that the cook comes out to talk story with whoever ordered ake. Wasn't me! I ordered da Big Kahuna plate and went to town. Side order kulolo. I suffered a royal kanak attack! Was worth the money. Hawaiian food isn't cheap nowadays. The people who make it are still just as lovely.
After a week of disappointments at the highly rated eateries around Waikiki, this place hit the mark. The food was great and the service exceptional. They gave us a side of poi to try since we had never had it. The kalua pork was excellent and the Lau Lau really tasty too. Ambience is a quick stop restaurant so don't expect too much on the interior. Would definitely come back for the kalua and Lau Lau!
5 stars only because I can't put 7.
Best Hawaiian food ever in our trip. The owner comes out and tell u about the plates you've chosen. Fresh fish. To be tried squid luau and pastele!
I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around, and the ambiance of the place drew me in. One can pick out a local family run restaurant by its lack of corporate thrills. Everything had a personal touch. The service was fantastic, they gave great recommendations and took great interest in my food experience. They wanted to share their cultural food. After a full explanation of each food on my plate, “Da big cahuna” They checked in on my numerous times to see what I thought of their food. 6/5 stars
We visited Hawaii for the first time and this place is where we had our first Hawaiian food. The staffs were very helpful and patiently explained to us what they have on the menu and the ingredients.
If you are in Waikiki you have to make your way over here. Food was out of this world. Tasted the other dishes my family ordered and it was all incredible. Staff was also so nice and helped us order since were not too familiar with local foods. I got a kalua bowl and I don’t think I’ll need to eat the rest of the day Im so full. Absolute must!
An actually native owned Hawaiian food place. Searched high and low for local/native places to eat. Don't let the appearance fool you. The food was delicious and comforting. Like it was made for you at home. The daughter of the original owners was who we had the pleasure of talking to and getting to know Halilis history. Would definitely come back.
What not to love on Hawaiian food?
HHF is on my foodielist since last year. Though we pass by this eatery multiple times already I really don’t have the chance to stop and grab some kines. But today July 29, 2021 I finally decided to try this place out.
First of all this eatery is easy to spot as this is just along the road of Kapahulu Ave. between Winam Ave. and Palani Ave. Can’t missed it! They got small parking at the back on the side of Winam Ave.
FOOD.
Chicken Long Rice Bowl, is so on point. This is always my favorite on Hawaiian food. This dish got me real good so I ordered this one in here & Haili didn’t disappoint me. The bowl came with two scoop of rice a small slice of taro and a small slice of pickled onion (which really elevate the overall taste of my ordered food). It was a good choice.
Kalua Pig Bowl, is just okay but my husband loves it so much. And said that it was seasoned good.
Opihi is so salty but so good! I got the taste from the ocean ad a bit refreshing.
Haupia is not that good though but still I enjoyed it. Perfect dessert after the main meal we got.
The only downside is the rice. They didn’t cook it real good. It’s kinda mushy and it somehow ruined the eating experience but I can manage by that.
Price is a bit steep but since it was a local business & we are dining at Hawaiian eatery I won’t argue with that.
We had fun. We enjoyed our meal. Our tummy was full & satisfied. For sure we gonna come back here!
Some of the best authentic Hawaiian food I've ever had. Good laulau, adobo, haupia. Everything was amazing. They're so sweet and nice. Only issue is it's a bit slow to get food. But it's totally worth the wait and the food was top tier.
Love the food!! The fried ahi belly was heavenly.
Ate here often when I lived on Oahu. I come by for a Big Kahuna plate EVERY time I'm back on the island. Great Hawaiian food, and GREAT people that run the place! Always worth a stop 🤙🏽
We are in Honolulu for our wedding anniversary. We are staying in Waikiki. We asked a friend who moved here where we should go to get an authentic Hawaiian lunch experience and they recommended Haili's. They were sooo sweet. They explained everything to us on the menu. They have huge servings. It was all very tasty. They also have some seating outside thank goodness because we walked there. I would highly recommend checking them out.
Haili’s welcomed us with open arms! It didn’t feel like a restaurant, it felt like have an amazing lunch with your family members! Awesome experience! Would fly 12 hours from nyc to come to this spot again.
We ordered the kalbi steak with the chicken long rice, shoyu poke, and spicy tuna ahi.
Thank you chef Jerry and his family for serving us delicious food. Also, for the priceless hospitality!!!
I have been going to Haili's Hawaiian Foods from when they were at Farmer's Market near Ward Avenue in the 1970s. Afterwards they moved to Kapahulu Avenue. It is a great local hawaiian foods favorite, and always good.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite places for local food. Beef stew, laulau, poke, Haili's has it all. The quality of food is great and you can tell a lot of care goes into it. The small sides (pickled onion, pineapple, and taro) really round out the meal.
We're Hawaii regulars and Haili's is a must visit every time. Amazing Kalua pork. Amazing everything and super nice staff.
Great home style food. Lovely service. Kalbi ribs are 10/10.
Really worth a visit for traditional Hawaiian food.
