Overall was a really good place to get cheap tasty dinner!! No drive in service anymore but the service was straight forward - walk up to the window and order then it’ll be called out when it’s ready. The lady who took our order wasn’t the friendliest but it took no longer than 10 minutes to get out food. I had one of the specials ( chopped steak plate ) and my husband had the loco moco plate. Both were super delicious. There were some table on both sides of the building to sit down and eat there or you could get your food to go. We ate there and sat at the picnic tables. There were tons of pigeons and other various birds all around the tables. We even had one bird steal food right off of our plate!! They had a nice little area where you could get knickknacks and shirts too!

If you want to eat like a local come here!! The chicken is delicious and the portions are huge!! Great bang for your buck. I always come here on my Hawaii vacations. Only downside- they charge for water cup and they charge for extra paper plates to share.

I feel bad giving such an iconic place 4* but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed my food that much. I got the mix plate which had beef, chicken, and fish. They gave a ton of chicken and barely any beef, but beef was by far the highlight and basically the only tasty meat of the 3. Chicken was dry and left a lot to be desired. Fish was very meh too. Quantity was huge for the price, but I did not want the leftovers once I finished because if really wasn't that good.

We stopped to pick up a souvenir at the gift shop so I cannot speak of the food. The Drive-In has a small parking lot with outdoor (picnic table) seating. Restrooms are available for paying customers and there is a gift shop. The historic feel of this establishment is nice but I feel it is in need of some repairs / upkeep / rejuvenation. The menu has several food options that looked promising and it would be worth a try if we were to return. I believe this is more of a "locals" type of establishment and may not appeal to tourists looking for a five star meal.

Was excited to try some local food and we were not completely disappointed. I ordered the Loco Moco and was given a lot of food! It’s definitely more of an experience with the blending of flavors and textures-rice, hamburger patty, brown gravy, and eggs over easy with a side of macaroni salad. Definitely glad I can say I’ve eaten here and tried this local fav. The place is drive in style and offers a few tables to sit at too. Service was quick, staff was friendly, and food was hearty.

A must visit for Honolulu! The food was fantastic, with all sizes and price points. The Loco moco is a must, loved the gravy, and the pork was tender on the BBQ pork sandwich. I got a slushy float and my sister got a slushy, both were light and refreshing.

First place to eat after landing on the island. The food never disappoints. Chilli moco plate was delicious!!! Staff was friendly as usual. My sister had the pork cutlet, that was awesome too!

This place is a must go to if you are in Oahu. It’s a little bit further inland from Waikiki but no more than a 10 minute walk from the main strip. The local Moco plate is definitely a must. It includes the macaroni salad, which is to die for. We also got the fish burger, which was basically a fish fillet but better. The seating area outside is pretty rough day, this is not a place that accepts reservations. I would probably recommend going off peak time to get the best experience will definitely be coming back.

Went here for lunch with the fam. The service was fast and the food was good. The shoyu chicken was very flavorful. The portions were also huge; so, come hungry or share with someone. Hit Shimazu Shave Ice next door when you are done.

Everyone seemed to recommend this spot and it definitely was worth the visit! At Rainbows we ordered at the counter and brought it over to outdoor seating which seemed to always be full but somehow there always will be space for you. We ordered the Loco Moco Plate, Mixed Plate (had beef, crispy chicken-the shoyu was sold out, and mahi mahi), Bbq Pork Plate, and the Mahi Mahi Plate. All in all it is good comfort food if you love Hawaiian Bbq and each plate tasted as they should have. The two things that stood out to me were the mac salad and gravy. The mac salad was great as it didn’t have a strong mayo taste to it and was sweet while the gravy had a strong tomato flavor to it. Oh and it's a good place to meet people and talk especially if you don't take up the whole table.

This place is always busy! They had 3 cash registers taking orders, yay!! We got our favorite local comfort food and ate to our hearts content ☺️. I live near by so how lucky am I?!

Another Hawaiian original. Another must stop when in Honolulu. Nowadays. It's seems that almost every first meal off the plane is a cheeseburger. Or Loco Moco lol. Classic kind-grindz. Enjoy bruddah!

First off - food was delicious and served surprisingly fast with the long lines of people. Parking is a challenge. So is seating, so maybe don't get Loco moco if you're eating in the car. The seating area and rest rooms could use some cleaning...

Foodie heaven in Hawaii, Rainbow Drive-In is where the locals go to enjoy. 62 years of exceptional food n service, it is regularly visited by celebrity food bloggers. We had a satisfying, delicious, very large serving of Boneless Chicken with Gravy - at the most reasonable charges, sitting outdoors chatting with friendly table mates... An icon of Waikiki, an excellent recommendation from our dear friend, Fleur 👌 Easily the best cheap eat you'll find in Hawaii. PS: They even have their own branded merchandise store - right in the car park.
