Lunch at Lam's Kitchen in Chinatown turned out to be so good and cheap. Won Ton Lookfun for $11.25 was a very good deal, cheapeats, in Honolulu. Moreover, the soup was good and the service was terrific. I definitely recommend this place.
To us, Lam's Kitchen is a place where flavor meets heartwarming hospitality. My teen and I stumbled upon this gem after a visit to Izumo Taisha shrine in Chinatown. We're dimsum regulars at Legend's or Fook Lam, so it was our first time to visit Lam's Kitchen.
Wallet-friendly prices, about 30% lower than Waikiki (we had noodles in Waikiki a day before and it a was $17/dish. At Lam’s Kitchen, it was about $12), and flavors that dazzle.
Their "Look Fun with Duck in Gravy." was really, really good. The duck was soft, moist but not fatty. The Chinese spice makes it really unique, and the saltiness was just perfect to eat with the chewy and soft rice noodle.
Also their “Look Fun with Tendon, Beef and Wonton in Soup” was also good. I wonder if they let you double the tendon/beef next time with extra charge? It is so good…. I’ll ask next time. The generous portion of napa cabbage was nice too.
Honestly, there is many restaurants in Oahu but what stood out was the heartfelt kindness of the staff–Lam's Kitchen is with the aloha spirit. With my child's autism, they graciously let us take our time. A man with a group of six waiting was pressuring the waitress to make us leave, but she said, “We don’t rush customers here, sir.” Then she turned to my child and said, “You can take your time honey. Do you want a tea or water?” A simple gesture of care made our day.
You can come to Chinatown by bus, a direct route from Waikiki. Dive into history, shop savvy (suvenier is about 15% cheaper in Chinatown than stores in Waikiki, and fruits and vegetables are fresh and cheap), and savor Lam's.
I love Lam's kitchen - it is heartwarming and quaint which gives that ohana vibe I like. The place gets pretty crowded, you will be placed on a wait-list. I had the yoo tiao (Chinese fried donut) with congee and that was very very comforting. I also had fish noodle soup which was also nice and comforting. I also ordered iced chrysanthemum tea which was refreshing on a hot day. Expect to sit closely to other patrons because the space is relatively small and crowded but I find it charming.
The staff is nice and efficient, the food comes out fast you barely have to wait.
We decided to visit Lam’s Kitchen for lunch. We ordered Duck congee, Chinese doughnuts, panfried beef noodles, and a beef brisket and tendon noodle. The food was delicious and compared well with any of the top congee noodle houses in Vancouver and Richmond BC. Highly recommend coming here in Honolulu.
About a block away from the Chinese Cultural Center in downtown on Maunakea is this small restaurant with a straightforward menu — rice porridge, look fun noodle soup, egg noodle soup, rice plates and sides. I can hear based on a recommendation from a seat neighbor from a UAL flight from SFO. “The softest chow fun noodles you will ever taste” was the hook. It delivered. We ordered 2 look fun noodle soups - beef and tendon (like a beef stew) and the wun run (shrimp and pork). Both were very tasty and we added the table chili oil to that. Great value for money. <30 for 2 lunches inclusive of tip.
Like many reviews said before me, this place is LEGIT! We had beef chow fun with choy sum, which was the BEST dish ever. Maximum wok chi with divine flavour and texture! Also had their wonton noodle soup and oyster lettuce, both simple and delicious dishes. Very friendly and efficient service, reasonable prices, what else can one ask for? I have been in Hawaii for two weeks and it’s the first time I feel compelled enough to write a review. I wish this place existed in where I live…
Aloha; I recommend a lot of places but this is my new favorite spot. You must try either the Look Fun with beef and tendon or Look Fun with Duck, soup on the side. Add the soup a little at a time and mix it together as you go. You will never be able to thank me more.
What a great meal we had here! Beef noodle soup, spicy wonton, and beef chowfun. It's delicious, good price, good portion, and friendly service. Highly recommend!
Hands down the BEST beef chow fun I have ever had. Food tastes amazing, price is affordable and service is fast. I will totally come back.
My husband and I always have to stop at every Chinatown when we go on vacation. This hasto be our favorite little Chinese restaurant ever so much to the point where they got me to eat vegetables, and I hate vegetables. It was absolutely delicious.
Get some! #11 Beef flank and tendon look fun soup (fresh rice wide noodles) & #27 Beef & choy sum (Chinese flowering cabbage) chow fun. Im not a total carnivore but these dishes are delicious. Soup is not too salty and the meat and tendon is perfectly tender. Would’ve wanted a little more meat in the soup. The chow fun has a good amount of sauce and the meat is fresh and tender as well. They pack it to go nicely and already came with 2 chili sauce for each. Well done! Ordered in and took it out by 15min as promised. Will definitely bring fam here. A tight place to eat but worth it if you can grab a seat to eat it hot.
Good place for Cantonese dishes. Limited choices but decent flavor. Our server got my noodle choice wrong but didn't fuss too much when having to correct it. She made the opposite mistake with our next table so hopefully It's not a going trend.
Delicious food. We actually thought we were in the wrong place cause the place was so small. But it was enough for the 6 of us. Servers came quick and we very helpful. Food came out quick and hot was delicious.
What a great little place in Chinatown for a noodle fix. Here they specialize in rice and egg noodle dishes that are made in house. Came in with a group of 7 and got their beef flank & tendon mien (8.99$), wonton mien (8.25$), and beef choysum chow fun (8.99$) and it was delicious. The portion size is amazing and the flavors were spot on. We had an order of wonton on the side (8.00$) to add it to the beef noodle soup and it was excellent. The service was also great. The servers were patient and attentive. Gave them an extra tip because they were so nice. The restaurant is small so you might have to wait a bit before if you come in a large group.

Quick fast, delicious. Great service. My highlight was the briased pork liver and intestines, beef and tendon in soup look fun.
First time visiting Hawaii and very pleased with, Lam’s Kitchen. I highly recommend for any new comers and others. They keep their space clean , serve yummy food, and provide great service.
Nice little place, busy at lunch when we were there. Hong Kong style noodle and rice dishes. Authentic. Almost all the customers were speaking Cantonese and the owners seemed to know all of them by name.
Pretty tasty. Looks like they're mainly known for their soup and noodles of course. Do yourself a favor add some shrimp wonton to your soup. Very good. My kids had the chicken and green bean with rice and liked it quite a bit.
