Empanadas are like Venezuelan hot pockets or calzones. We usually serve them as appetizers (small ones), or as a main dish w/ delicious fillings & dipping sauces. Empanada fillings are as varied as Arepa fillings, & we use some of the same fillings that we use in Arepas as well.

Arepas
Arepa is a flatbread made of ground maize dough or cooked flour prominent in the cuisine of Colombia & Venezuela. It is eaten daily in those countries & can be served w/ various accompaniments such as cheese, avocado, or split & used to make sandwiches. Various sizes, maize types, & added ingredients are used to vary its preparation. It is similar in shape to the Mexican gordita & the Salvadoran pupusa.

Pabellón Criollo
Pabellón criollo is a traditional Venezuelan dish, the local version of the rice & beans combination found throughout the Caribbean. It is a plate of rice, shredded beef in stew & stewed black beans that is considered by many to be the Venezuelan national dish.

Patacon
The hefty sandwiches resemble burgers, save for one key difference—rather than bread, the "bun" is two disks of flattened plaintain. Thanks to a combination of ketchup, mayo & the restaurant's special sauce (made from a secret combination of veggies) this carne mechada patacón. Sandwiched between the crunchy, nutty-tasting fried disks is a generous helping of stewed shredded beef, topped w/ lettuce & the aforementioned condiments. Those ingredients would be perfectly tasty on their own, but there's also a small disk of slightly salty fried cheese.

Cachapas
Cachapas are made w/ fresh corn, a bit of butter, cream & salt. The resulting pancakes are soft & flexible, & can be easily folded over a filling. Stuff them w/ Queso Guayanes or just serve them w/ butter.
