The hot and sour soup alone is worth going. Not the prettiest of places, but great staff and freaking awesome food. I've been going here all my life and have never had better soup anywhere else. Absolutely love it!!
Good food, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. You get a soup and an egg roll with every plate. The inside decor is really inspiring.
Have never had a bad meal at Mandarin House. I have been eating here for years. I knew Tony and like other reviewers I have watched as the decor got a bit run down and the place seemed more empty. This past year I have seen renovations inside which is good and most importantly, Jeff and I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant. I have eaten at many other Chinese places and this one continues to be my favorite. About the only complaint I have is occasionally when we have ordered a battered pork or battered chicken dish - there has not been enough meat and too much gristle. However, we eat here many times throughout the year and overall - it is excellent. There is no better won ton soup anywhere - and when I have a cold or flu Jeff always brings it home and it does the trick to make me feel better.
My sweetie took me here last night for my birthday dinner. He has been raving about this place for awhile, and I'm finally glad I got to eat here. He recommended the mandarin beef. Oh my, was it delicious! And I had enough for two meals so it will be lunch today as well!
I was very impressed with the decor of the restaurant. Most of the fixtures and decorations are authentic from the owners homeland. My sweetie has done work for them and can back this up. Can't wait to go back here again. Maybe I'll try the sesame chicken next time.
Excellent!. I'm am very picky about Hot and Sour soup, this one is amazing! It has chicken and seafood in it and just the right amount of spicy and sweet! Their Mongolian beef is a favorite of my husbands.
Decent lunch. Despite being located in a little strip mall off the interstate, this is one of those Chinese places with the elaborate, ornate decor of dragons and carved wood and lanterns, but you can tell it's been there a while too. I came by for lunch and the service was very prompt and efficient. The egg roll was fresh and hot; the hot and sour soup was good, very much the way I make it myself; and the beef and broccoli was pretty good too--very generous portions, all for under $9.
Once great but now just ok. I used to come here with my grandparents years and years ago. It was so good. Now, it can't really compete with Mr. Chen's. BUT their sizzling rice soup is the best I've ever had in the United States, and it is still as good as it was when I first had it years ago. If you like sizzling rice soup, it's worth a trip to Mandarin House to get it.
HUGE Chicken Lo Mein! Also "donut hole" thing with fortune cookie
Hot and sour soup is great! Excellent value for lunch. I had the Mongolian beef, and with the soup and egg roll it was more than I could eat. Cost $7.
LOts of food. I got there for lunch! Really great good! You get soup and egg roll with your meal, 7$ a plate max! Love it! Best Chinese I've found up here. The place is clean, dark but clean!
Comment on Annette's experience to Mandarin House. I would like to comment on Annette's "SAD STORY".
Mandarin House happens to be one of the BEST chinese restaurants around town besides one other but I will leave that name out. As far as the Hot and Sour soup, You have to tell them when you order that you want Seafood in your soup. If you don't they will give you soup WITHOUT SEAFOOD. That way they can charge you more for the seafood. I will like to personally appologise to you for your "SAD STORY". I wish I could say, I hope your next experience is a better one, But to the sound of it, It doesn't sound as if you will be back. And truthfully if you go to a restaurant and cretique it like you do, I would STAY HOME!
My Mongolian Beef was excellent, as well as the prices. I'll be back.
Great place for delicious chinese food. everyone at our table was glad to be there. looking forward to returning with my coworkers. the prices are good for what you get. food is similar to a cafe in indianapolis i loved.
