Outstanding
BB's is always a go-to restaurant for good Louisiana cuisine. The food is always outstanding and the location is small so the service is even better!
This place is fantastic, definitely casual with high brow quality food. The fact that it is 24 hours or at least open way past when normal people eat adds to its greatness. I had heard good things about it but the place was undersold to me. I was supposed to go to New Orleans this weekend on business but it was changed to Houston at the last minute, so was looking forward to some cajun food so thought I would give this place a try.
It is small, and I'm guessing parking can be a challenge as there are warnings on their door about not parking in any other lot. However it was early on a Saturday morning and since I had to take an early flight, was ready for lunch. I tried their Midnight Masterpiece roast beef poboy, and it is perfection with just the right amount of spice to add a kick. I'm not sure why others didn't like the bread but it was fresh, and perfect with the right amount of heft to support the juicy monster that the Midnight Masterpiece is. It is definitely not a mass produced hogie roll as one reviewer said, so am guessing they have gone back to their original bread which screams Louisiana.
There were a few other people in the restaurant and everything looked outstanding, and prepared just like those really great little places that if you are lucky you find in Louisiana. Thinking about trying the Shrimp and Grits tomorrow morning before I fly home.
Excellent small local restaurant that you have to try out. They also tell me they make their Louisiana type Daquiri's with wine, so you can get them with your to-go orders, as they aren't the high octane Louisiana drive through daquiri, but they can serve them to go, just like in Louisiana. They say they are Tex-Louisiana, and that is an apt description, as while they are essentially a cajun place (with other things) there is definitely a Texas influence, and the combination is magic.
Another place you just have to try.
The atmosphere was perfect for a late night with friends...Service was average no complaints. While the gumbo was not yo my liking, their crawfish served up by the pound and the spicy peel and eat shrimp there are everything!! Will defiantly return...
Poor Po Boy. BB's used to make the very best Po Boy in the state of Texas. Since they changed their bread, it is no longer in my top ten.
They changed from a great crusty French bread to some mass produced hoagie roll. This killed the sandwich. I used to go there every other Friday before I went out drinking and split a Po Boy with my old lady. Not anymore.
They still make some great side dishes though. The Macaroni and Cheese has bits of roast beef and jalapenos in it. The Red Beans and rice kick ass. They smother their crispy shoestring french fries in gravy, roast beef, and cheese.
Still a good restaurant, but no longer one of the best in its class.
Great atmosphere and location, good tasty food and great menu options. Go for the po'boys they are amazing. Service is a bit slow but still friendly.
Best Shrimp Po-Boy in Houston!. I always thought Ragin Cajun had good Po-boys, but BB's is outstanding! Great tasting fried shrimp with really fresh bread too! Just a great place!!
Great Oyster Po Boy. Great oyster Po Boy and iced tea at this very friendly place. I truly enjoyed the experience. I intend to come back soon with friends.
I enjoyed every part of my meal- except for the microwaved biscuit. The service was great, the restaurant was clean and again...the food was good! I had the catfish po'boy and the grillade and grits - delish!
An excellent poboy cafe with good service an delicious food. Surf&turf: roast beef, homemade brown gravy, melted Swiss, and fried shrimp was just die for! Pair it with the flavorful gumbo and you got yourself a full belly right before an afternoon nap!
Po'boys with a Houston twist. We had a late Sunday lunch there today, it was excellent. Started with the chilly cheese fries, interesting combination, fries, caso, chilly gravy and roast beef. The gumbo was well above average nice dark roux, not oily, a little on the black pepper side. First cold snap I'll be back for a bowl.
Everybody had half a po'boy, five of use, all thumbs up. The roast beef was thin and tender. Shrimp and oysters fried just right and plenty. The bread had just the right chewiness and the chipotle sauce complemented it all.
The big surprise for the day was the bread pudding. It was huge, everybody got sample. Topping off a bountiful day.
The wait staff was pleasant and helpful.
Not will I go back but when can we go back.
Being from N.O. For me this is the best Cajun food inside the loop
GREAT CAJUN FLAVOR. I was THRILLED to try this place and find the food EXCELLENT...There were four of us and we ordered different items....I loved them all...
We live in The Heights...and blocks away from BIG MAMOU which I don't even believe that those people are from Louisina much less know what cajun food taste like....I'm glad we now have a place that is just a little further down the road...
We had the Royal St Secret sandwich, the bread was fresh and it was an all-around great sandwich. The MawMaw gumbo was delightful. Service was warm and friendly.
Tastey stuff, Roast Beef Po' Boy with Gumbo was a treat.
The Po Boys and Gumbo are the best in the city. The Shrimpaladas are my favorite menu item. Great price, Great staff, and Abita Beer!
Spicy Cajun po'boys that are fresh & tasty. shrimpilladas are great combo of seafood cheese & tortillas. Something here for everyone. Patrick
The food was good, though not true Cajun flavor. The waiter I had was really bad. He forgot what I ordered, after I repeated it, he brought the wrong food, because he still entered it wrong. He poured water into my tea and then told me I was mistaken. Then when I was ready to pay, the owners finally noticed I was ready and took care of it. Lucky the food was good.
This place is AWESOME!!! This is my husband and I third time visiting the franchise and the food and staff are impeccable at both the Eldridge location and this one. I came on my birthday and they truly helped make my night special. The vibe and energy of this location is incredible. Reminds me of home (Louisiana) I love this place and our waiter Zeke is the best. We can't wait to visit again, also they have drink specials for brunch.
The staff was awesome! The food tasted delicious and I'm picky with Cajun food. Tried the boudin balls for the appetizer then gumbo & chicken and waffles for the entrée. Then for dessert tried Maw Maw's bread pudding, which was 😋!
I got El tejaneaux, which included shrimp empanadas and boudin flautas. The empanadas were tiny. There were dumpling sized. I didn't realize I was getting mini empanadas. The boudin flautas was good. The gravy on the macaroni and cheese tasted weird. It made the Mac n cheese inedible. Their grits were good. Gumbo was below average.
Honestly one of the best food experiences I can remember having - our server Sheila was incredibly helpful, sociable, and dedicated to her job, the food was AMAZING and astonishingly cheap, and the love for good food and experiences was evident in every aspect of the restaurant. Definitely would recommend!!
Really enjoyed to shrimp po'boy. The bread is phenomenal! Plenty of free parking out front and spacious outdoor seating. Inside has a great, casual vibe Service is fast and friendly. This is a major upgrade from their old location on Montrose. Highly recommend!
What wonderful food and such friendly service! Absolutely would go again to try more!
I highly recommend the bullet for the king and the Cajun fries. The street corn is scrumptious and fresh. Tiffany offered prompt service and recommended great food choices for our night out. The service, atmosphere, flavors, and music make this a 5 star new Orleans experience. Now I'm planning a vacation to Frenchman street.
The photos are terrible and the sandwich looked bleak. It's not nice presentation and it's not a high end sandwich... But it was tasty and made me happy. I got the half shrimp / half oysters po'boy and I enjoyed it a lot. It's very casual dining and in that category it's amazing. Perfect for a midnight snack.
BB’s, I just want to wrap you up and put you in my pocket (because you’re that good)!
Recently I joined my buddies to celebrate a friend’s birthday at BB’s Tex-Orleans. The patio at the new location in Montrose was on point that night! My friend was able to bring his dogs on the patio to also celebrate their Daddy’s special day.
Service was excellent, and the food was perfect.
We enjoyed scrumptious delicacies such as Catfish PoBoys, Maw Maw’s homemade Gumbo, Fried Chicken & Greens Salad, and Texas Cajun Fries (which had this delighted country boy smiling ear to ear). But wait my fellow avid foodies, there’s more! We served the birthday boy a delectable slice of Maw Maw’s Bread Pudding as the entire patio joined us in singing “Happy Birthday.” It was an amazing night. Thank you BB’s for a stellar evening!
Oh, and we may have had a cocktail (or two…or four) like their Texas Twister, South Texas Jazz, and Maw Maw’s Bayou Tea. Note: I don’t know who Maw Maw is, but bless your heart for for sharing your culinary skills and recipes. Sadly, I can only give four stars due to the haphazard parking which was also a problem at their previous location.
I could go on, but get over there and see for yourself. Bon appetite!
Menu was awesome. The flavors were spectacular. I had a pecan cheesecake that was mind-blowing.
Food was good and the prices are great, especially for lunch. But after going several times, there are inconsistencies. The two times I got the shrimp salad, one time it had large shrimp, the other time it had smaller cheap shrimp. I've had lunch specials missing listed things like hush puppies or the coleslaw.
My wife and I were visiting from out of town and stumbled across this place trying to find parking and let me tell you! Some of the best food I’ve had in a very long time. The Southern Man breakfast was outstanding. Definitely my new go to spot in Houston!!
Came in after a night at the bar. Had the best glass of sweet tea to go along with some very delicious gumbo. Staff was engaging and friendly. Which is refreshing. Price point was fair as well especially for the location and quality.
It was open late on a Sunday so my expectations were shaky. But baby, I would go during standard business hours. The shrimp and grits and sweet tea was sooo good👌🏾, savory and filling. Didn't skimp out on the shrimp and used the large shrimp. Our server JB was phenomenal! Really understood the menu and made fantastic recommendations. Also, was just a joy. Can't wait to come back!
We came here for seafood and had a great experience!!! Candace was very nice and super accommodating!! Definitely will recommend to anyone visiting Houston.
We went to BBs for their crayfish, had a great time, and food was off the charts!! We started with empanadas but took 1 bite and finished them before the camera came out !! Ha ha, the presentation of our meal made everything taste superb 👌 😋 thank you, Jason Sapp, for running a tight ship.
A great late night restaurant to visit after leaving the club or the bar. The food was served in a timely manner, cooked correctly, and season good. The prices are reasonable and the proportion was a good amount of food. I would visit again.
