Great place to have sushi in downtown area of Houston. Fishes are fresh and food is tasty. The price is a little high, but the quality is up to par. Service is great as well. Parking is a little meh. I recommend carpool if you're planning to have a big group.

Just moved to the area and am so excited to find Izakaya Wa. Love the variety of skewers they had available and the sashimi options! Looking forward to returning! The decor was cute as well.

Upon arrival I asked for table for 1, and the host suggested either sushi bar or the drinking bar. It was cool that they had separate area at the back for drinking vibe while the dining area is more of a cozy vibe. I asked how the situation was at the drinking bar side and she told me to go check, which i thought it was weird? I decided to sit at the sushi bar. overall my experience here was pleasant. every dish i ordered were so delicious. def recommend the ika ring fry with the cucumber/kimchi side. the squid rings are good and better with the sauce it comes with. the cucumber/kimchi side was a great addition because it really helped me balance the taste all together if that makes sense. the caterpillar roll was tasty, but i really loved the curry chicken katsu. ive def tried couple diff spots in houston that had this dish and most of them were always covered with way too much top coat, whereas theirs literally was like what you can get in asian countries. and the best part is with all these quality food, it's affordable which i think that's why this place is so packed! that being said, the restaurant itself and the staff shouting can be loud, especially sitting at the sushi bar i was scared every single time while eating. id def come back to this place though, want to try out new dishes for sure. it's sad that they dont do deliveries but thankfully it's not too too far from my place so that's good.

Food was good, but a little inconsistent as far as portion and flavor. Some items were hits, some were too small for the price or just not as good. Tried a couple different skewers, I liked the Japanese Sausage. Chicken was OK. Sushi was good, udon tasty also. Rice balls were mid. Not bad bar food. Service is OK and that's about it

I’ve been here the 2 times I went to Houston and both meals were one of the best I’ve ever had. The quality of the fish is excellent and the variety of Japanese dishes is incredible. Considering the quality of the food I’d say everything is pretty reasonable. Outstanding 👍

The food here is great and that’s the biggest thing.. service is really good toro very friendly and trained staff. The drinks aren’t expensive if you’re looking to get a couple while you wait for food or while you eat your meal. Truthfully I forgot what we ordered but I do remember everything being very tasty and filling!

Great food and amazing services! They have multiple tables so we were able to walk in on a Friday night and was given a decent size table. A great Japanese restaurant that serves fresh wasabi (soft and gives you the kick!). The basic restaurant serves wet ginger and dry hardened wasabi, avoid those places. 1. Assorted Sushis (Tuna, Salmon, Amberjack, and two others) 5/5 Highly recommended, comes with hot miso soup too! 2. Curry Rice with Chicken (half) 5/5 Decent size of chicken katsu despite half size 3. Udon Soup with Beef (half) 4.5/5 Decent slices of beef but I have another favorite spot for this 4. Boheme Rolls 5/5 Love the combination and that crunchiness yum! 5. Chicken Thigh Skewer 4/5 6. Wasabi Shumai 2/5 Unique concept but sorry it tasted very blunt Things that could be improved: 1. Hot green tea was just warm (not hot) 2. The table needs to be thoroughly cleaned because I found sticky spots.

There is lots of parking, but it's shared with lots of other places so it can be tricky to find a spot at busy times. The hostess stand is on the west side of the building but there is also an entrance/exit on the east side of the building. Was a wait-list for a table so make sure to plan ahead if you have a larger group. If you like sitting at the bar, the bar was alright. The back tables / rooms were setup for privacy, which was cool. The overhead lighting in the booth I sat at was a bit weird. The seats and edge of the table on one side were completely dark. They should really look at fixing that. The noise levels were fine. There was a device on each table with buttons to call for service, or the bill. The server seemed pretty busy and the food and drinks were slow to be delivered. I thought the Japanese curry would be good since it said spicy on the menu. It had zero heat. I was disappointed. The black cod was delicious. Definitely recommend it. The stingray fin was also quite nice, like a fish jerky. Overall, a nice spot for a Japanese meal.

Came here with a few friends. Spent about $31 dollars (including tax) and got a half portion of beef udon, takoyakis, and a 5 piece assorted skewer. Great selection of Japanese food over all. The bite sized pieces make it easy to try lots of different options. The beef udon was about $8.00 for half portion. The noodles were really good consistency and the beef was really tender. The soup was savory and delicious! The 5 piece assorted skewer ($10.00) was also delicious and crispy, however they were quite small. 2 of them were vegetables too. I felt for the price they should have been a bit large and/or maybe more meat. Didn't feel fully satisfied. The takoyakis ($6.50) was very warm, crispy, and had good pieces of octopus in them! Not the best takoyakis I have had, but certainly still good. The presentation could have been a bit better though. The waiters and waitresses were all very attentive and kind with good customer service! They explained things quite well. They did however forget some of our food but they brought it out when we asked, so make sure double check. Also, for large parties, they don't split the check and add an automatic gratuity. So be prepared for that as well!

Super tasty and authentic!!❤️ This is the only authentic Japanese food since I moved to the states. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is very friendly. Since I am Japanese, they talked to me in Japanese. I loved their welcoming attitudes. If we lived in Houston, this should be one of our places to go.
