Excellent place for breakfast and lunch. Good place to start the day. Has a cozy neighborhood feel with shopping opportunities right next to the restaurant.
I've eaten breakfast here every Saturday and Sunday for 12 years. They're open for breakfast and lunch. The menu is old time diner special with some Mexican touches. The staff is friendly and everybody remembers your name. I go there on Christmas and Thanksgiving too, they're open! Sometimes it gets too busy when people from the suburbs come in on first Saturday.
The best Houstonian old fashion Restaurant Grill Cafe you can go back to 1923 and enjoy old fashioned cooking. If you are dieting ask for the big variety of healthy "diet" options, gluten free, wheat free and low glycemic as well, but if you don't care enjoy the best homemade carrot cake in the town
Nancy is a great chef and Juan and the other staff are very friendly. I feel like vacation time staying in my city.
Of the many places that I enjoy grabbing breakfast this is the only place where I can walk in and not worry about finding a place to sit. We big guys are not known for wanting to wait to eat, it's against our religion.
This is The Heights. 3 generations of my family have all enjoyed this place.
Breakfast was fast, great service, and delicious! this place is authentic, from the counter with stools to the ceramic coffee mugs. LOVE the nostalgia! Keep it up!
The tradition is still lives. Good friendly staff, good service and homestyle food.
Delightful old "soda fountain" atmosphere with an extensive menu. Things just taste GOOD.
good food with a nostalgia feel
The food is really good and inexpensive. The wait staff is friendly. Had one of the best strawberry shakes I ever had with real strawberries. You step in and its like stepping back in time.
Great classic diner! I’m a bit ashamed that I’ve lived in The Heights for 6yrs and never knew about this place. Friendly staff and DELICIOUS classic diner foods!!
This is a cool experience all the way around. On the outside there is hardly anything to tip you that this is a diner. Not many windows. Small entrance that leads to a sort of kitsch curio shop, with various baubles and what nots on display. Then on the other side is every bit of an old fashioned diner. You'd swear you stepped into a movie set from the 70s.
Oh and the food is okay, but who cares. Bring a friend and just soak up the cheesiness of it all!
Old fashioned diner with great burgers and milkshakes. Breakfast is OK, but they almost always forget something. Today it was my side of toast!
Nice place to bring family and friends to have breakfast or lunch! I prefer small spot like these and the service was great. I will be returning!!
I enjoyed the atmosphere of this diner that shares the roof with an antiques store. I prefer eating there than at the McDonalds or Quiznos around the corner.
I had a Chessburger with onion rings :)
Cute little diner. Food is very good and so are the shakes!
Fun little soda fountain. Good shakes!!
Great Burgers and Shakes. This is actually an old soda shop so I love the atmosphere. The burgers are great, and try the oreo shake... it has like 10 oreos in it!! YUM!
Great place for breakfast and weekday specials. Nothing fancy but consistently good diner food. Surprisingly good fresh veggies and fruit on salads.
Special Place. Yale Grill is a great place to eat. Breakfast all day on weekends and lunch specials during the week. Fantastic shakes from their vintage shake machine. A throwback to a another time with family and friends. Sharing the building is a fantastic little shop called PurpleMooon that has some of the most unique gifts and bargains. Eat and shop in one place. I love it.
This place is absolutely wonderful. An old school style cafe with great food, large portion sizes, reasonable prices, and friendly staff.
They can get a little backed up, but the staff works hard. Take a step back in time and enjoy.
Went for breakfast, sat at the counter. Amazing experience, just very no-nonsense, great food, and service was the perfect balance of attentive and smart enough to let us enjoy our breakfast in peace. Will definitely be back. I also got a great buy at the antique shop.
The food definitely had a home cooked meal taste. There's plenty of tables to sit at plus diner style seating. Food was warm and coffee was good. First time visiting and glad we did. Kids meals are avaliable.
This diner is marking it's 100 the anniversary and most of the customers are too basic diner. The service is adequate for the food good. Parking OK
Great little diner. We had breakfast and the staff was extremely attentive. Lots of regulars and the place was quite busy. I had the waffle and my daughter had the happy face pancake, she loved the whipped cream and sprinkles. The waffle was good the coffee was better than Starbucks drip coffee. It’s very casual. My daughter loved all the 35¢ candy options. We will be back, can’t say I’ll be a regular.
Great place to eat. It’s a vintage place like a trip back in time. This has been a restaurant sine 1923. Part of the building was a pharmacy and then a post office over time and now is an antique store.
Great breakfast menu cooked fresh for you. A real diner experience from history w homemade pies and cakes as desert plus ice cream floats.
Very reasonable prices and good service.
We had big breaks plates and drinks. Our total bill was $22. Minor ding was the biscuits appear to have been frozen over handmade.
Lots of locals eat here. A great place to go. Recommended.
Totally authentic and like stepping back in time - great food for reasonable value with welcoming staff. It’s clearly steeped in history and part of the community identity. Long love Yale Street Grill!
Very cool, and very vintage Dinner it’s like a time capsule! The service was fast, polite, and food came quick! A very cool restaurant, and reasonably priced menu of goodies! The attached stores are very cool too! Definitely come to eat, and bring Freind’s, you all will definitely come back!
Great old school diner at the edge of the Heights (been in operation since 1923). Family-oriented or good for a quick solo visit. Large menu choices. Great service. If your looking for a solid throwback dining experience check these guys out. Parking is limited, but not a deal breaker.
Went on a Saturday morning. food was typical basic diner food which is what I would expect. Most items very well priced, some a little high for the quality. Reason for 4 stars and not five is that it could be cleaner. Would return though.
Found a new gem of Houston in the Heights! The food was delicious, hot, and fresh. The menu had a great selection of breakfast and lunch plates. The service was good. This was our first time here, but I could see that the staff was familiar with the customers. It kind of gave me that small town feel. I also liked the unique layout. It's half restaurant and half antique shop, and they still have the old Yale Pharmacy sign up. Great first experience. We will definitely be returning soon!!
