We live close by but had never been to Bonsai Fusion until last weekend. The sushi is very fresh. All of the dishes were served artfully and tasted delicious. The crab wontons and spring rolls are to die for. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was light and crispy. Happy Hour is until 7pm on Saturdays with ice cold beer, $5 martinis, and a selection of sushi and other appetizers. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back very soon! Maybe again this weekend!

Updated: A very lovely restaurant with great food and kind servers! Their happy hour options come out quick and tasty and wonderful for the price point. I also ordered the Copperfield Roll, and I would highly recommend it if the ingredients are to your liking! I'm currently rating 4 stars because I plan to go back soon and try their steak! I got too full on sushi this visit, but there's always next time! Update: I went back and ordered the steak, but the environment was a little different this time. I waited to be seated and the servers looked at me confused for some reason. It took one of the chefs to greet me and let me seat myself. Once seated, the server who took my order was pleasant and polite. I ordered the Bonsai (Kobe steak & lobster). I was pleasantly surprised to find it also came with shrimp which was good as almost every piece of lobster still had some bits of shell still on it. The steak was very good, but for the price point I'd stick with their happy hour sushi.

1st of all props to them for being halal ! What a rare find to have halal hibachi in USA. All their meat is halal , with no pork option so that makes it quite safe. The food was also good. We got a hibachi chicken with fried rice, chicken noodles, chicken fingers with fries for the kids (which was very good) and some sushi rolls . Everything was good. 5/5 for quantity, and 4/5 for taste. Price wise it was just a little bit over but being halal I can understand. Service was good and fast. The chef didnt do much tricks but he was still nice and friendly. The only thing disappointing was the ambience/atmosphere of the restaurant. It smells a little funky when you 1st walk in. Didnt look too clean. Table and utensils werent 100% clean. Bathroom had a weird smell and was very dirty. Hopefully they get to renovate soon. Otherwise good job!

I'll be honest, the vibe here is a little shady. If you're looking to do Hibachi, they take you to the back room which is rather cramped and dark. But once you're in there and sat down, things start to look up. For one, service is great. Our waiters were very patient and responsive, and from the moment our chef Sean came out, he was wonderful. We were sharing a table with a young family and he catered well to both sides of the table, together and separate. I'd definitely recommend you ask for him if he's available. As for food, I came for the halal Hibachi and I would say I've had better flavor and portions at other Hibachi restaurants (in the US). Which is not to say I didn't enjoy the meal, but if you're looking for premium quality meats or fine Japanese dining, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you're looking for a fun night out with a variety of items on your plate and more butter than you should consume in a week, you'll enjoy. tl;dr Ask for Sean and enjoy a fun dinner out!

The staff was nice and so was the food. Tried the hibachi filet mignon entree. The salad came with a lot of dressing on it. It is the only thing that didn't go well for me, but not a big issue as I wasn't there to have salad. The chef was an amazing guy! Showed a lot of passion and skill. Keep up the good work.

I have been here several times. Always fun to see others mesmerized by the hibachi grill experience. My niece and nephew were quite scared of the fire, so take note not to put the little ones so close to the table when “the show” starts. The staff is courteous and fast. The food has been good… occasionally a little salty over playing around with the soy sauce. The salad is and onion soup are very good. If there is anything to improve is that the entrance looks a little dated or cramped, and they serve soda cans rather than refillable fountain drinks.

I have been coming here for 15 years and it still hits the spot like no other! The combo fried rice with yum yum sauce is my go to, but everything is wonderful. Besides that, who else in Houston has two beautiful soft shell turtles, Kobe and Ninja, on display like Bonsai? What are you waiting for? I dare you to try this charming neighborhood restaurant. Bonsai is a gem.

Great place. Loved the Philly beef sushi roll asked them to cook the beef for me and they did. Really good. Would recommend. Kinda on the pricey side but it was still good.

Absolutely loved it. The shaggy dog sushi is Absolutely amazing! The right amount of sauce. I ordered The shogun with is their steak and teriyaki chicken also comes with 2 shrimp fried rice, onion soup and a salad. The onion soup is a good starter. The salad is pretty good as well. However the steak was cooked to perfection and it was really tender. The chicken is flavorful. They added the right amount of teriyaki sauce. The shrimp was packed with flavor. The fried rice was also really good, the fried rice completed the meal. The service was really good the server made sure, I got excellent service.

The hibachi steak and rice is SO GOOD! I got to try this restaurant at Japan Fest and I loved the food! They even ask how you want your steak cooked!

Pretty good halal hibachi option. Smells a bit funky when you first walk in but overall good service. Prices are a bit high.

While visiting my son, he recommended we try Bonsai Fusion. I was definitely impressed. We started with a sushi appetizer, Lobster roll. Very good. The menu choices are extensive. The food was EXCELLENT! This restaurant is very much like Benihana, but a more intimate atmosphere (smaller scale). If you have never been to a Hibachi restaurant- it's very entertaining. The chef cooks your meal directly in front of you, with a lot of tricks and theatrics. They also have nice size flat screen TVs in the room. Great for Sunday football game meals. The Hibachi meal includes: soup, salad, Hibachi veggies, and steamed or fried rice and your choice of protein. I chose Ahi tuna, my son chose rib eye steak with shrimp. The portions are very large. I had to get a "to-go" box to take my meal home. I had it for lunch next day. The The butter seasoning on the Tuna, 🤤🤤 was so good. In all honesty- I could just live on their Miso soup and salad, and be completelysatisfied. The ginger dressing is INCREDIBLE. They also offer a traditional dining room up front. Not everyone wants to sit directly in front of a hot Hibachi grill. Also, the prices in the traditional dining room- are a bit cheaper. Same incredible food. I will definitely be returning- to try more of the menu.

What a fun night at Bonsai Fusion Japanese Steakhouse. Last night we arrived and asked to be seated at the bar so that we could enjoy our dinner and the Astros baseball game. Although the bar was quite full they made accomodations for us. We ordered a really nice bottle of wine and ordered appetizers, sushi and sushi rolls from the Happy Hour (All Day) menu. Service was outstanding and the restuarant is very clean. We were never "rushed out" but encouraged to enjoy our evening. Favorite local sushi/steakhouse restuarant!
