I'm an Indy native and have been to tons of restaurants....the food here is incredible. Fried chicken is top notch, meat loaf is devine, roast beef is tender and has flavor. Haven't had the ribs yet. The sides?? The green beans are seasoned w/ a little bit of heat, mash potatoes like grandma makes, greens are flavorful and have a little "smoke" like they should. Mac N Cheese is over the top. Lemonade is like the state fair! BTW, this is Tony Dungy's favorite restaurant....enough said. 😊
I'm not from Indianapolis came to visit, and was treated here.. I absolutely loved the food as well as the service, the waiter was really nice. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone
The sweet tea is amazing. The food is so delicious that even though your completely full you just can't stop eating. Was supposed to go to the movies afterwards but had to go home to take a nap. If you've never been here before this place is a must try. You won't be sorry.

Some of the best soul food I've ever had. Particularly recommend the ribs, Mac and cheese, cornbread and green beans.
The best place to eat in Indy! Food was delicious, I mean finger licking delicious. Big portions (if you leave hungry it's your fault) because Mississippi Belle is all you can eat! We will be back.
All their food is very, very good. We celebrated Melissa's birthday there last week and had fried chicken, roast beef, sweet potatoes (a dessert by themselves), fried corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, fantastic mac and cheese, the greatest sweet tea anywhere...and chess pie for dessert. Everyone gets sliced tomatoes, onions and their special southern fried cornbread. Dee is one of our favorite waitresses there and always keeps the food coming. ONE OF THE BEST IN INDY!
This place was delicious! Perfectly pan fried chicken and tasty sides! Fast and friendly service.....will definitely be back!
The food was incredible, it was fresh, and ultimately delicious! Though I live in Dayton Ohio, I will go back just to eat there. Food was on point!!!!!
If you haven't been here, you should. Their signs says you must eat here, and you definitely should.
First, let's talk about the delicious corn bread. I've never had anything like it, and it's one of the most amazing sides I've ever had. Ever. I specifically crave these amazing little corn breads.
The fried corn is amazing, the mashed potatoes are just like grandma's, the cornbread dressing is a great substitute for Thanksgiving, their meatloaf is better than Grandma's (the best I've ever had at a restaurant), the fried chicken is tender and juicy, everything is so great here. I'm sure everything else here is just as amazing.
Cash only, Pepsi products.... tiny little bummer but who cares when the food is this awesome.
Goodness, this is some great food and served quickly. The server and everyone was so nice.
My goodness ,, best comfort food I've tasted in a long time and the hospitality is like Family,, beautifully nestled in Indiana.. thanks Wendy for taking us during our time there
The Family Style Dinner is awesome. You have to try the Pan Fried Chicken and Sweet Potatoes!! The staff is friendly and so down to earth!!! Can't wait to go again!!!
If you ever get down and miss some of them mom was good cooking are you got to go west of the Mississippi bell if you ever get down and miss some of the mom was good cooking are you got to go west of the Mississippi Belle This is real down-home cooking
This was my first visit and I absolutely enjoyed this place. As a southerner, I know how soul food should taste. The fried chicken and fish was straight out of the south and spot on. It was just as I remembered growing up in North Carolina. There were no complaints from our group of 6 people. I thought that was usually, but that tells me that overall the food was well prepared. The staff was friendly and service was excellent. With good food and good service, you have won my respect. Oh yeah , it is an all-you-eat style restaurant, hence the price per plate. They will refresh your order as many times as you would like, only there are no takeouts once you reorder, however, if you do not reorder, only then are you able to takeout food. The group have a choice of 4 sides and each person must choose his/her own meat(s). Finally, the atmosphere is relaxed with a nice dining room that have tasteful art on the walls to accent the decor. Thumbs up to Mississippi Belle.
I was honestly baffled at the taste of the food, the price we paid, and the quickness that the food was handed to us. I could not believe the plate I received was $10, with drinks included. The flavors are not bland at all. The chicken is juicy. The green beans feel like their cooked with BBQ sauce for spice. And the staff was very considerate. What a gem.
Every since reopening from the fire I must say the food taste much more fresher. The fish has a nice flaky breading and always comes up hot and the seasoned ribs are fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, delicious! When eating here you feel an immediate sense of family bonding and togetherness. My favorite waitress is Keisha, Even tho she has been there since I started going, she always greets us with smiles and warm conversation. If you are going to go on a Sunday, get there early because they fill up quick. Or just stop in for lunch throughout the week, either way you won't be disappointed.
Food was great! Tasted like comfort food with tons of flavor 😋
Like a meal at your southern grandma’s house. Low key, great food. Large portions at good prices. This is rich southern cooking. Don’t ask for healthy choices or substitutions. Lunch with iced tea for two was $25. Fried chicken plump and juicy. Sunday afternoon is packed. Best bet is Saturday lunch. Owner often on site. Staff kind and helpful, but busy.
Food was just OK today. Service was great. Sweet potatoes were way too sweet. The dressing tasted like stove top. Not sure if the greens were fresh or canned. Maybe better luck next time.
This is the comfort food we were looking for this day!! Everything was great !! The mac n cheese was so creamy and cooked perfectly not over cooked pasta like some places. The yams were also great and so flavorful! The meatloaf, I decided to order bare and she brought me gravy and the ketchup sauce that they make on the side and I did half and half. It was perfect! The meat was seasoned so well. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good also. The greens were great! The hot water corn bread I was not a fan of and I usually love ANY cornbread... It was just a little too thick on the inside for me but our server gladly brought me some white bread with butter. We had no idea it was all you can eat.. but if you plan to take any home you will be charged for the 2nd helping. One helping is usually enough though ! We got more yams to go..it was well worth the $2 charge ! We will return !!
Best food restaurant in Indy! The atmosphere is amazing! Ms. Dee is wonderful... and the food.... amazing!!!!!
Most important was the fact that my pan fried chicken breast/wing was cooked to perfection, very juicy and flavorful! The cornbread fritters were great! The Mac was good! Greens were a little bland but well cooked as well as the cabbage that was supposed to be fried but steamed perfectly with no taste. The ribs were also bland and boiled a little too long. The Beef Manhattan is huge and delightful. Smothered chicken it ok, needs more flavor in the gravy.
Best soul food I’ve ever had. The fried pork chops and fried chicken were amazing, but especially the corn bread. Ribs were incredibly tender and melted in your mouth with the sweet barbeque sauce. My only complaint would be the slow service, which was understandable seeing how many people went. The macaroni and cheese was decent, and I would not recommend the fried cabbage.
So I went here Sunday for a double date. It was everyone's first time there. It was clear to see that this place was pretty popular due to the long take out line in front of the entrance. Despite the long line, we were seated pretty quickly. The food there was pretty good and overall we had a really good time.
My one issue however, was that we were completely unaware that it was a cash-only restaurant. Apparently there was a small sign near the register, but it wasn't even visible due to the long line. Also it was our first time there, so it's not like we knew to look for it. I just think it should have been the waitress's job to inform us about this, before placing our orders. Luckily they had an ATM there and we were able to get the cash no problem. However, what if it hadn't been working that day? Then we would have just been sitting there looking crazy with no way to pay. I just feel like the heads-up would have went a long way.
Tried this classic Indianapolis staple.
We celebrated a birthday here.
Decent food. Great Fried Chicken and Yams!
So glad to see that this place is back open and way better than I remember!!! I Started out with some really good Sweet Tea and then my girlfriend and I ordered dinner meals I ordered the Smothered Chicken with a side of Candied Yams and a side of Greens and she ordered the Meatloaf half Ketchup sauce and half Gravy with Macaroni and Cheese and Mash potatoes and Gravy…. I really liked that they offered Onions and Tomatoes with the Cornbread reminds me of Sunday dinners growing up… the onion and tomatoes with a bit of Greens is the best… My smothered Chicken was the best really loved that it was Deep Fried first before they baked it baked it and it just fell apart and off the bone but you still got the crispy chicken skin with the gravy on it!! I enjoyed the gravy and how it was made with onions in it!!! And the Meatloaf was so good with both sauces either was fine with me!! And the Yams… the Yams… was SOOOOO good I ordered some togo all and all I’m I was overly satisfied and I highly recommend this to anyone with a family of who just enjoys good food we shall return and next time with our children!!!
Prompt friendly service. Excellent food - the meat is tender and just falls off the bones. The seasoning on everything is wonderful. The atmosphere is fitting. Prices are appropriate for the quality and quantity of food. Absolutely love this place and make it a point to come anytime we're in town.
Excellent staff and the food was great. Very clean friendly restaurant with great selections even at lunch time. Just visited this place again. The food here is just great. This place is easy to find from Google Maps. 3rd visit and this place is just awesome.
I am a soul food fanatic. So as a first time visit I bought a lot. The smothered chicken was amazing. Sweet potatoes amazing. GreenS...not so much. Fried cabbage was very good. Macaroni and cheese. Never again. Didn't like that at all. Fried chicken was seasoned very nicely. Portions were also nice. Lunch special prices!!!! Yassss
