What a beautiful day to celebrate my Mom’s 71st birthday at one of my favorite restaurants in Indianapolis, Hollyhock Hill. Jim and Kelly made my mom’s day special from the moment we checked in time and throughout our meal. She felt like a special guest from the start to finish. Our servers were as great as the home-style cooking. The iced tea, biscuits and pure apple butter were a great way to start off our family event. Then came the new chicken tenders, fried chicken and fresh sides of corn, mashed potatoes, pickled beets and a bunch of other delicious treats. We ended our meal with the delicious ice cream sundaes with a choice of hot fudge, mint or butterscotch topping to drench the creamy vanilla ice cream. Hollyhock Hill is such a treasure for Indianapolis. Jim and Kelly have kept all of the good traditions from the nearly 90 year-old restaurant and made some improvements too. This is such a great restaurant. Don’t just wait for a special occasion! Can't wait to come back and dine outside on the new patio!

The new owners of Hollyhock Hill Restaurant have done an outstanding job. They have taken a good restaurant (30 years of memories for my family), and made it even better. The vegetables are freshly prepared now (not from a can), the margarine has been replaced with creamy butter, the biscuits are made from scratch (not a powder mix), and the Chicken...oh boy, it's better than ever. It's so tender and juicy - and, we understand that they have upgraded to the top chicken supplier in the state. If you want the best homestyle meal in the midwest, get your reservations made at Hollyhock Hill. It's so good, but it's more crowded that ever! Bravo!

The best family style dining for fried chicken dinner on the north side of Indy, hands down. My mother was a waitress here when she was in high school at Broad Ripple in the 30's, and my grandparents also fixed this meal as their Sunday dinner. So coming to Hollyhock, for me, means coming home. It's comfort food. You cannot go wrong. Enjoy!

Our first visit and I’m sure not our last! Our entire meal was fabulous! From the soup to the ice cream. Not a single disappointment! The beets and the Brussel sprouts were amazing! Our server was great and we never had an empty glass of our soda. All around great dining experience!

We celebrated our mother’s 82nd birthday Saturday evening there. Food was excellent and the service was great. Wait staff always made sure we had all the food we could eat and never had to ask for beverage refills. We highly recommend Hollyhock Hill for your next family gathering!

Had our Easter dinner at Holly hock Hill yesterday. The new owners were gracious and friendly, stopping at our table to greet us. It was elegantly decorated. The food was superb!! We had the fried chicken and it was as tasty as ever! The pickled beets were to die for! The only downside was sitting next to the swinging kitchen door..which I will request not to sit by again!!# But we will definately continue our patronage at Hollyhock!!# It was a very enjoyable luncheon.

The owners Kelly and Jim made us feel very special for my birthday with my family. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and make sure that everything was perfect before we left the restaurant. The chicken was awesome better than any I'd ever had. Real mashed potatoes homemade gravy homemade biscuits fresh green beans and they even have a carrot birthday cake for our family. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for its Southern Country Charm and a comfortable place to eat.

Great place for fried chicken, biscuit and apple butter. One the oldest family owned restaurant in the area. Customer service is great!

I enjoyed the atmosphere. The service was good. The chicken was good, too. But the salad and sides were sad in all honesty. They could really raise the bar by serving fresh green beans, for instance. If you were paying for food alone, it would be overpriced. HollyHock really shines with its family style dining. This place seems best fit for larger parties. I would give this place 3.5 stars if possible.

This is a hidden gem. I went for a client's Thanksgiving celebration and the food was like it was home cooked by granny. Homemade biscuits and apple butter. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, salad, beets and cottage cheese. Everything was tasty. You know when food is good because it's quite in the room. I will definitely be back. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures because we dug right in. You won't be disappointed.

We had our company Christmas party at Hollyhock Hill this year. The staff was all absolutely amazing. The food was great! I think they started a new tradition for us. After such a great experience I will have them do our parties every year.

Came here to celebrate my cousin's 65th wedding anniversary! The party was from 1:30-4:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was Bryce and he did an excellent job. We loved the vinegar oil dressing, beets, and biscuits as the first course. Then came the corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and milk gravy! The fried chicken was served next and it was beautiful! Everyone ate all they could!

I really enjoyed the food. First time visit. Was very busy and had reservations. No one at door to seat people. Waited 10 minutes. Limited parking. All great till I went to the restroom. Door to enter men’s room was”So Gross”. Like it had not been cleaned in months. Almost made me sick. With that said not sure if I will come back. If the door is that dirty then I worry about the kitchen!!! Sorry I have to be honest.

Finally after many decades of drive bys had family style dinner at Hollyhock. Reputation for the best fried chicken well deserved and in my memory is #1 for its specialty. Thin light batter crispy crunchy lightly properly seasoned skin and for me dark meat chicken meat perfectly tender and moist. Debated trying a different meat but glad I had the top of the menu list. Almost as if each piece was skillet fried exactly the same. The included salad was fresh with a standard light vinegar vinaigrette, apple butter biscuits, fresh cut green beans, beets, and cottage cheese. A menu variety straight from a home kitchen? Also mashed potatoes with chicken gravy if there was any one item that was not a norm as seemed heavily buttered / seasoned a tad much. Ended with ice cream with self toppings of mint, chocolate, or butterscotch syrup. Restaurant interior several ornate partition dividers as photos show and some curtains available to be drawn for private parties. The restaurant is tucked in a tree laden parking lot and driving through the entrance reveals a larger parking lot than visible from the street. Service was quite good and personable with a little shared history of the restaurant and ownership amd knowledgeable on each food item's attributes. Would visit again.

Great food and staff. We were a large group so the room was noisy. I don't know if it was us or the room needed soundproofing 😁 but the facility is very nice. I recommend going here especially if you have a party. The wait staff were top notch.

My husband found this little gem when searching for Amish style food. One of very few restaurants that have true family style dining, and well known for their delicious fried chicken. All of the entrees come with multiple sides, served family style at the table. Our meals started with mixed salad, which comes with their own house recipe vinaigrette.. Which it appears they also sell bottles of.. the vinaigrette had a nice sweetness to it and was very tasty. The salad was served alongside fluffy warm biscuits and apple butter, cottage cheese, and pickled beets. The beets were so good that we got a refill on those. The entrees were served with sides of corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, and country gravy. My husband got the fried chicken entree, and paid an upcharge for all white meat chicken and an upcharge for a side of sweet & spicy sauce. I got the chicken tenderloin entree, fried (grilled is also an option) which comes with ranch dressing. All of the chicken was huge, perfectly cooked, perfectly fried, and delicious. Neither of us could finish our entree as it was so big and filling. Dinner is wrapped up by an included scoop of vanilla ice cream, accompanied by 3 syrups you can add - chocolate, mint, and butterscotch. They do have additional sides and desserts you can purchase separately - but the all included dinner is way more than enough. Our server was Chris - he's worked there for over 20 years and his experience shows. Service was excellent. He was quick to give refills, clear the table, managed our table and a large party flawlessly, brought to go containers without even asking, and was very patient and kind. Even if the food wasn't amazing, the service alone would be a reason to return... But the food and service together makes coming back a no brainer. We did ask if we returned could we share a meal and were told yes, but if you don't get your own entree you are charged $16 for all the family style sides - not a bad deal. The prices are a bit higher than I like to spend on one meal - but the quality, portions, and service made it worth it in my opinion. The decor and atmosphere were very quaint. There is also outside dining.

We had a party of 10 and our waitress did an awesome job, service was excellent! Food was very good, main entree, sides, biscuits and even the ice cream. They bring out butterscotch, mint, and chocolate syrup, and it really added a little extra to the ice cream (recommend using both mint and chocolate) 😋. Atmosphere was nice, but the carpet and restroom could use some attention. Definitely based on everything else I'd give a rating of 4.5 if Google allowed it, this place is a must try! Also, even though it's family style everyone gets to pick their main entree, fried chicken is their specialty, but they have other options if you prefer something else!
