This 2-month-old Japanese restaurant has a lot going for it. The decor is nice, the service by the Japanese servers is very attentive, and there's a wide variety of menu items, including sushi, izakaya-style small dishes, udon noodles, and even some pasta! Everything we tried was delicious and well presented with attention to detail. Jinbei is owned by a Japanese company which operates 9 restaurants in Japan, and this is their first one in the U.S. They source their fresh seafood from a Japanese distributor and take delivery every Thursday, so the best days to visit them is Friday and Saturday if you look for really fresh fish. Everything is authentic Japanese. Very highly recommended!

Charlie was amazing and the sushi was outstanding. My favorite of the night was the scallop which was very fresh and delicious! If you want excellent sushi, you must try Jinbei.
Very good... After living in Torrance and in LA, we got spoiled on very high quality Japanese restaurants, and this place is as good as any in LA or Torrance.
This place is solid. No frills. Just good quality sushi/sashimi run by a Japanese team that knows their stuff. Make reservations or expect to wait an hour or so.
My favorite is Uni Pasta! Especial sushi lunch set !
Amazing lunch combos! The quality is great and at an excellent price. To get the limited combos you have to get hear early. We lined up about 15 minutes before opening which was perfect to get in on the first wave for a weekend lunch. The servers were very quick and the presentation is great. I enjoyed my meal and would love to return soon.
People line up here on weekends before they open.
The limited 10 seafood rice bowl is popular and delicious!
You will be satisfied with the appearance and the taste.
There are many Japanese food menus, and it is very close to the taste of Japan : )
Best Japanese restaurant in Irvine and lunch special is genuinely special.
It's in my neighborhood and I was not disappointed. Very authentic and delicious Japanese food that I have been looking for and couldn't find in Irvine. Lunch special is the best. Everyday, 3 special dishes are offered for max of 10 orders. So be there at 11:30 opening time. The rest of the lunch menu items are delicious too. Very reasonably priced. Always a long wait list but the service is fast.
The only thing I feel could improve is the seating, which is a bit cramped and chairs are a bit greasy. Regardless, the food here is to die for!
This place is a quaint little restaurant packed away in the pavilions lot, and the food is good. I like coming here for lunch because the combos are a good price and come with a variety of things.
The sushi is fresh and the presentation is nice. If you get the sushi lunch combos, they usually sell out quickly so try to get there on the earlier side.
The karaage and tonkatsu sets are really good and flavorful.
Overall it had a very casual, but presentable atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly.
Super yummy place. Small on the inside so there is usually a wait. But the wait was not long at all. We came around 1 pm and they closed at 2pm. You just order and write down what you want and give them the paper so it’s easy. Food is good. Seaweed salad doesn’t have as much seaweed as I imagined it would🍙🥗🥒. It has a lot of other ingredients and some of the stuff was a little bitter. But they gave free refills on the miso soup🥣 at the end. The sushi was amazing. 🍣🍱🤤Super good. No complaints. Overall nice place. Would come again. 👍☺️
Went last Thursday on a whim with a friend and can't believe we have such a nice restaurant in Irvine. Service, quality, and presentation were nothing short of amazing. Seems like they're packed all the time.
We ordered the orange clam and seaweed w miso vinegar (so flavorful), split the 5 kinds of sashimi, and ordered two pastas--mentai cream and uni. The fish quality here is extremely good; hamachi (amberjack, nice fattiness) and the hotate (scallops, tasted very clean) were my favorite. I was craving mentaiko cream for the longest time; my go-to place for this is Pasta e Pasta in LA, but now that I know Jinbei's is equally as good I'm happy I don't need to travel as far for it. Portion size for pasta is really good! Pastas were al dente and the cream was nice and light--not heavy; mentaiko and uni flavor was all there.
Total was around $40ish/person splitting the check. Definitely will come back, probably to have sushi for dinner this time.
This was one of my dad’s favorite Japanese restaurants - their sushi and sashimi are fresh and haven’t ever had a fishy bite. Their uni special was decadent - and worth every penny if you’re into that sort of thing :) but the real stars of the show for me are the uni pasta - rich, creamy and unexpected - and the hamachi Kama (yellowtail collar) - which sells out almost immediately so get there early and order it immediately.
craved uni pasta the other and made a stop at jinbei bc how can you say no to $22 uni pasta !! it was super creamy and hit the spot. they also have a bunch of fresh sushi and super well priced udon.
Great sushi place! We came here for lunch a week ago and then back for dinner.
Both meals were delicious. The staff was also very attentive and friendly.
We are so happy to have a local sushi place to come to. We recommend this spot if you are in the area and craving some Japanese food!
I had an amazing lunch with sushi. Chirashi sushi is top level in the state. It was fresh and delicious. Staff here are very kind and professional. I will come back if I have another chance to trip to irvine
It was very good. One needs to be there when they open. There is limited supply of certain foods. The lunch specials are 1st 10 orders. After that one needs to order off the standard menu. The fish was exceptional quality.
The mentaiko spaghetti was 👍👍👍 and sushi good. Fish is solid except they could work on sizing down a bit some pieces were just too big to enjoy. Uni was bonkers and their wasabi is pretty unique.
you had me at ginger and wasabi.
Given a rrasonable price, they're maintaining a decent quality.
Totally recommend for both sushi, bowls, and definitely uni spaghetti!
Had to wait about 45 min due to mix up in reservation. Limited table space so you may have to wait. Food and service was outstanding. Fish was fresh and soup tasty. I'll come back anytime. Nice job.
We love Jinbei for both sushi, great atmosphere and service. It's a small place maybe a dozen tables plus sushi bar seats, so there can be a wait. The food is always great with elegant presentation. Staff are always friendly.
