Checked out Barrelhouse for the first time (FINALLY!) during Social Hour Friday night. Had the tuna poke nachos, pork meatballs w/ Parmesan cream sauce, and the crispy confit chicken wings all with cocktails/beer. The nachos and meatballs were excellent...the wings...not so much.
The nachos plate was overflowing with tasty goodness!! All components tasted great on their own and then above board when combined on the plate. It really is an impressive dish.
The meatballs were delicious! Cooked just right. The sauce was good, though the dish could handle a tad more sauce. Not drenching in sauce, just a touch more so there's a nice balance to meatball to sauce. Honestly, the next time I go to Social Hour I would love to order each meatball option in each sauce option to try all the various combos. YUM!
The chicken wings were nothing special. There was more white BBQ sauce on the plate as decoration than on the wings. Didn't really get to taste the sauce because there was none on the actual wings. Again, I don't expect the wings to be drowning in sauce a la Buffalo Wild Wings, but hoped to have enough to enhance the flavor of the wings. Some drizzled on the top of the wings instead of the plate would be nice. Now, if the taste of the wings was exceptional, I wouldn't mind the lack of sauce, but wasn't impressed by the no-sauced naked wing either. I had hoped to be since they were deep fried in duck fat, but no such luck. Our wings did not look like the pretty wings in the Barrelhouse post today (Saturday, 6/9). Would have enjoyed those yesterday. Will try something different next time, which is always a good thing anyway.
NOW, regarding the cocktails we ordered...all were EXCELLENT! The Cosmo was one of the best I’ve ever had. My favorite is served at a neighborhood restaurant in Metairie, LA, and I would put this Cosmo on the same level. I also enjoyed the Barrel Cat cocktail that was recommended to me by our waiter. My husband had an Old Fashioned and said it was one of the better ones he has had.
Overall, without question we will be back at Barrelhouse! Great food, great drinks, and a great addition to Fondren!
Good service. Ordered the Brisket Flatbread for an appetizer, it was delicious! Will definitely order again. I also ordered the fish and chips. The fries were okay, nothing amazing. But the fish was great, very well done along with their house tartar sauce. If you like Margaritas order their house margarita. Nice twist on a classic.
Arrived just before closing, we were seated promptly and service was excellent. There was great live entertainment and the drinks were well made. I can't recall our gentlemen server's name but very personalable, familiar with menu items and offer insight on choices and accommodating to our preferences, he reads his customers well through brief conversations.
Nice restaurant with a unique menu and great customer service. Michael was wonderful, and he had great food and drink recommendations. The tator tots have a special seasoning like none other I've ever had, and the pimento cheese bits were great. I had a brownie type dessert that was the perfect ending to a great meal. The bloody mary had the perfect amount of spice and tons of goodies in it.
Nice place but they were understaffed so service was quite slow. However, the staff were all friendly. The food was quite good and we will return some time.
