We were delighted that recommendations we got about this restaurant were spot on. The food portion is generous and the quality was excellent. The staff were kind and helpful. We both loved the Super Loco Moco (we choose hamburger patty, Portuguese sausage, and spam). We also had short stack of pancakes that are really good. Splitting the two dishes between the two of us we still had leftovers which is great because we get to enjoy again!
We were a group of 4, and we all got different meals. Some got brunch, seafood, and a blt. All of us enjoyed our food. My fish and chips were absolutely incredible. The sautéed fish was even better. I highly recommend either one. Our waitress was fantastic, super sweet, and we never had to wait for anything, as she served us faithfully, with joy.

Food is good. Locals and tourists. We were seated quickly. Large portions. Chicken Katsu on the island comes with a BBQ like sauce, not traditional Japanese, just fyi.
I arrived when they opened and was greeted and seated immediately. On my way to the table, I was asked if I wanted coffee, and as soon as I was seated, the coffee met me at the table. I ordered the super loco with hamburger patty, roast pork, and Portuguese sausage. The portions were great, and the taste was very good as well! I'll definitely return here!
Authentic Hawaiian meal, enjoyed trying the teriyaki chicken , kalua pork, macaroni salad, and Coleslaw. Very generous portions at a modest price. And the coconut ice cream pie? Soooo good
Food is very tasty and very fresh. Catch of the day never disappoints. Kailua pork with cabbage and the pineapple coleslaw very yummy. The mud pie is a must, the perfect ending to anything you order.
Great locally owned place. Get away from fancy and expensive restaurants. This is where the locals come. No frills, no touristy vibe. Inexpensive and flavorful food. 5 stars.
First meal on our recent holiday to the island. Super friendly service and fantastic food at a reasonable priced. Felt like this is a place that the locals come to as well. First time having loco moco and I'm hooked lol. Will need to try making it on my own as there aren't any places back home that serve this.
Great tasting food I have the teriyaki steak and it was delicious nice clean restaurant
What a very cool little place! I had the traditional breakfast, and it was great! I have wanted to eat here for a long time, and they did not disappoint!! Very good! The staff was awesome! So welcoming, nice and friendly!! 🤙🤙
Great atmosphere! Quick easy access to parking lot!
The food came out fast and fresh! Great experience!!! 🤙🤙🤙
Again, can’t give enough kudos to the staff, they where beyond awesome!! 🤙🤙
Mahalo Big island Grill!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Ordered the Loco Moco with hamburger…it was phenomenal!!! Way exceeded my expectations. The burger was one of the best I’ve had.
We had brunch at B I G today. My wife had breakfast and I had lunch. Both portions were huge. She couldn't finish and I shouldn't have, but I did. It seemed like mostly local folks eating there, which made us feel good. The wait staff was super attentive and personable. Prices were very reasonable.
We discovered this place and found out they have been there for 20 years. Great staff.
Casual comfortable atmosphere with locals and visitors. Very friendly staff and great flavorful food.
Shrimp scampi is not an omelette option I would have thought of but it was very good. Anywhere else I would have said that the link sausage was very good, but it was definitely second fiddle to the Portuguese sausage. The brown gravy is almost good enough to eat as soup. It is not sausage breakfast gravy, but great on the hash browns.
And I normally would never eat desert with breakfast, but I couldn’t resist the coconut ice cream pie.
Two days later and we had to come back. I went for the super loco moco with kalua pig, Portuguese sausage and katsu chicken.
A very simple interior but excellent food and service.
From our one trip there, I would say the breakfast items were the best. Try three Mac nut Chantilly waffles and pancakes!!
Parking is hard to find but worth waiting for a spot or a short walk to the restaurant.
Excellent service and great food!!
We ordered the "Mixed Plates"
The first photo is a teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu plate with fries and mac salad, and the second plate is the teriyaki beef and Korean chicken plate with sautéed vegetables and mac salad.
We really liked the mud pie at Big Island Grill. This place is always on our list when we visit the big island. The food is also very good, although since I remembered the pie so I only had the pineapple coleslaw this time around before the pie came. The others all had great meals though. If you plan on going they do close at 2:00 so make it breakfast or lunch.
Pretty good. The B.I.G. Chantilly Waffle was really good. Flavors were light and not too sweet. Must try. Super Loco Moco with Portuguese sausage, roasted pork, and chicken katsu. Gravy was good (on the side). New York steak (med and seasoned perfectly) and eggs was great. Wait was about 10 mins. They are a busy place. Saimin soup was popular, it was coming out often. I regret not trying it. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I will be back.
We love Big Island Grill! Especially the Mudd Pie. We try to come here everytime we visit. Always great food and great service.
