Revisit SOHO Bakery on 8th Street!. I visited SOHO for lunch the first time in 2013 and had the Chicken Tortilla Soup. The bakery case is full of other tasty looking goodies but I settled on Carrot Cake. YUMMY! You must visit SOHO again if you haven't lately. BTW, my Americano from Broadway coffee was delicious too. It's OK that you don't have Oddly Correct on tap. THX!
The photos on urbanspoon are not up to date. It looks and smells good like a bakery should!
Mixed Feelings and Perceptions. The first time in SOHO café & bakery, I immediately noticed the ample space and warm décor that made it feel too easy to stay for a while. A previous review stated the identity was hard to pinpoint and I would completely agree. They have good coffee here, but the ambiance was not to the degree of what you would expect from a full-blown 'café'. Bakery items were few and far between, although what they did have (outside of the scones) was excellent. The cinnamon rolls, sticky buns and cookies were delicious; however, the scone was the first that I can remember ever throwing away. The menu looks simple, which is nice and what I would expect from a space like this. I will definitely think of SOHO when I want a pastry but coffee might still be better fetched from City Market Coffeehouse.
SOHO Cafe and Bakery. I stopped in here on a whim. I was craving something sweet, and decided to peruse their selection. While several items caught my attention, there was a majestic looking Mocha Caramel angel food cake sitting on the counter and I knew that I could not pass it up. I ordered a slice and sat down to enjoy. The cake itself was wonderful - everything you would want in an angel food - chewy and light. The flavor was spot on - just enough sweetness, but not so much that the mocha was outshined. The caramel glaze was a bit of a let down. I didn't care for it and ended up picking it off and just eating the delicious cake. I will definately be returning, though, to try more of their (hopefully) tasty offerings.
I travel extensively around the US and find myself in Kansas City about every four months. Every time I do, I stop at this little coffee shop for breakfast. The coffee is first rate, the people working there are sweet and charming, and the food ranges from better than average (the egg sandwiches) to unbelievably delicious (the apple dumplings). The only reason I can imagine for a negative review is that it isn't quite a coffee shop and it isn't quite a restaurant--the identity is a little shaky. Maybe it's the paper plates, which really could go. Unpretentious, occasionally sublime food, and great coffee along with great staff. Try it out! (Did I mention the apple dumplings?)
This was a less good from scratch poptart, it was more dry than others I have had in the past. They have a very limited drink menu as well. Good environment/ambience and a DELICIOUS peanut butter chocolate chip cookie though.
The bakery items are amazing! Recently the music has been terribly loud on Sunday mornings. I used to go there to work, but it is just too loud. Coffee is great and they sell Alchemy cold brew (SO GOOD). Keep an eye out around town because many places sell their bakery items.
Delicious burritos, and huge selection of pastries. This cup of coffee is one of the best I've ever had. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is relaxing. I will definitely be coming back when I am in KC!
First visit. Friendly service. Made to feel right at home. Monster cookie and snicker doodle cookie were both great. Take out cinnamon rolls were outstanding for this morning's brunch. We'll be back!
These are the best cookies I've ever had! They have a great selection and their staff is friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. My only complaint is after arriving 12 minutes before close one day there was only 3 Monster cookies left. The employee explained: "to get a better variety, you must get here early or call ahead". Seems fair enough, so the next day I arrived early and STILL a very limited selection available. So, I guess your only course of action is to call and order in advance. Regardless, the cookies are worth the wait!
Have become a regular for their breakfast burritos which are prepared a day in advance and then heated up with a panini press. Their baked goods are always on point as they provide them for a handful of coffee shops around town... Their scones, cookies, and vegan date bar are to die for. Oh, and not to mention... Their coffee and general service provides itself as a great companion to it all. It's a good place to go alone or simply meet up with others in a relaxed environment. The music is usually on point for giving off the right vibe but it can be random at times. I like the randomness.
The staff is super friendly. They play awesome music, and provide a relaxing environment. Coffee is great, and food is delicious! I love the mornings I make it by Scratch before work.
Amazing, very cool coffee house and bakery downtown KC. Excellent coffee and the baristas know what they are doing. Very artistic. Best coffee in KC, worth the drive. Additionally, the made from scratch original baked goods are so good most of their business goes to high end local restaurants.
I preordered some pop tarts to take into work & my coworkers loved them! Got so many compliments on how good they were! Had multiple people wanting to take the leftovers off my hand lol but I don't think there will be any leftover! LOVE SCRATCH BAKERY KC!! Highly recommend!
Super cute. Hidden gem. Got their bacon potato cheese burrito and shared it with my boyfriend. Not a fan of breakfast burritos usually but this was SO GOOD. also had a juice.
The staff is super helpful and friendly, and they have the best quiche I have ever had in my life. This has become a weekly ritual because we love it so much!
Since I moved to KC, I had been looking for a relaxed coffee shop to meet with friends, and finally I found Scratch. Nice, quite, and hidden from the crowed.
This is my boyfriend and I's favorite coffee place! We go every weekend, friendly staff and great food!
Very relaxing and calm environment. Great coffee great seating, clean amazing baked goods. great place to relax at.
The cookies and almond croissant were amazing! The staff was friendly. All around good place
