They must have a change of management or ownership recently. The fried fish is exceptionally good -- thick white fillets, moist and delicious, unlike previous visits when the fish fillets were over-fried and dry inside. Chicken tenders are succulent and lightly fried; great with the white dipping sauce. My favorites are all the vegetables and, of course, the fried gizzards. The only con on this visit is that it is very hot in the dining room "because one of the A/C units is not working", per one of its employees.
The food was very fresh today. The employees made frequent checks on the buffet to replenish. I recommend removing food trays from the buffet that only have a third of the food left. The presentation of a near empty tray makes the food look. stale. The dining room was kept clean and tidy.
This is the best Hartz Chicken in all of Houston. The food is always hot and delicious. The place is always well kept and customer service is fast and friendly. If you like chicken and want to eat all you can eat this is the place, if you don't want a buffet, that's okay! They have many individual meals to choose from which makes the place even better. They even have a salad bar! What more can you ask for.
This place has come up in quality of food! When I first came here a couple of times the food was ok the first time about the 3rd time I had visited ot just went down hill. I stopped coming to eat then a under new management sign went up and decided to visit again and man its gotten so much better. The quality and taste of the food has gotten so much better. I have always loved Hartz Chicken and since it has gotten better I ve come back quite a few times. Sometimes I come here just for the fish cus its fried real crispy and its always hot and fresh!
Friendly Service. Clean Place. Staff is very good. They served fresh fried chicken to us without asking.
For Muslims: The Katy Location (Singapore Fry Rd) serve few items that are Halal too so good alternative to KFC 😃
Great chicken strips. Great chicken in general. Bathrooms always need a bit of cleaning. The bufffet is decent for the price. Employees are hit or miss. But usually polite. Get the customer card and do not forget to get it stamped for a free buffet.
If you like chicken and simple buffets, you'll love this place. It's down to earth and offers common side dishes and main courses. The setting is clean and set with hard chairs and tables for groups of different sizes. The pricing is also affordable. This chain offers carryout - you can have them put together containers or plates or you can come in and put together a plate yourself.
Went on a Friday at 4:30 P.M. The price is $9.99 and includes a drink (just under $11 after taxes). It was pretty empty at that time, about 7 or 8 customers. The dining room is large, with a TV in the corner tuned to Fox "News." The building is a bit old, but they were doing construction to the sidewalks. The bathroom was dingy, but clean.
You could tell the food on the bar had been sitting around for a little while, probably from lunch. Nothing was labeled, but you can tell what was what. They were almost out of breasts when I got there. The catfish, legs and thighs was also really low. The wings were the hot sauced variety, but no unsauced.
They also have baked thighs and wings, which they had just put out. There were lots of sides: mashed potatoes, bread pudding, corn bread, corn, greens, cabbage, green beans, sweet potatoes, beans, rice, white and brown gravy, rolls, coleslaw, potato salad, cheesy rice. I tried most all of the sides and they were solid.
They also have a cold/salad bar. It had orange slices, carrot slices, salad, various sauces like tartar, ranch, ketchup, onions, etc. The drink station was your typical variety with what you'd expect, like Coke and Sprite. I went with the sweet tea from the machine. They also have an unsweetened tea container. Right next to the drink station is a soft serve machine with small cups.
All the plates, dinnerware and cups were Styrofoam, besides the red plastic tray you get at the beginning. This isn't a big deal, as you just throw the dirty plates away and grab a new one. I grabbed a drink refill and some soft serve to go, although you're not supposed to take anything away.
All the food was exactly what you would expect. It was all good, but not great. The chicken tastes most like Church's. I didn't really like the livers or gizzards, but that's just me. The chicken was juicy and salty. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have crispy unsauced wings.
There were employees there putting out things, but I think they wait til the pan is completely out before it's replaced. I never needed to ask for more food from the back, so I can't speak about that. Like I said, it was very slow, so it's probably better during busy times, like noon. The two employees I interacted with were pleasant enough. The lady putting stuff out had to get the cashier girl from the back to take my order.
Depending on how much you can eat, it's a great deal. It's the kind of place I would go every couple months as a cheat meal to break a 24 hour fast. Overall, a solid experience.
No complaints really some of the food look like it has been sitting for awhile I got there about noon so they've been opened about an hour and a half. Everything that I ate was good and the employees were nice. Also seem to be pretty clean and we'll go back.
We enjoyed five buffets and was completely satified. The food was fresh, fried food was tasty, and the veggies and starches were very accomodating. The restaurant was well kept. The ice cream machine was not working properly but other than that, all was well.
