This is our La Jolla favorite. Chef Maeve has a top notch bakery and restaurant. The staff is great and the food and baked goods are terrific. We love that we can dine on the patio with our dogs and still get the best of service. We have never been disappointed with anything on any of our visits. The Guinness stew, the shepherds pie, the chicken little, the BLAT, the brioche French toast, the traditional breakfast and the endless pastries are all amazing. We will stop by and visit on every trip to La Jolla.

Had a lunch meeting here yesterday and it was the perfect place! My client had a dog and they consider themselves super dog friendly! The outside patio was perfect - shaded and warm! I had the best tortilla soup ever and the pastries were to die for! Don't miss this place when you are in La Jolla!

Sugar and Scribe Bakery was absolutely phenomenal! My husband and I went there for breakfast on our first day in California. Everyone there was incredibly warm and inviting. Our waitress was funny, charming, and completely on top of her game! We both ordered the traditional breakfast and it was, hands down, the best breakfast we’ve ever had! This was definitely a great way to start the day!

I never use Facebook but need to for this. This is my favorite place for breakfast in San Diego and I've been coming here nonstop for a few years now, but: PLEASE bring back the Eire Hash! I understand the value and reasoning behind refreshing menus, etc., but this is the one dish that has always kept me coming back and I was extremely disappointed today when it was no longer an option. I tried its replacement, and while it was very good, it does not compare. I don't necessarily see myself visiting less frequently but it will be much happier if it's there.

Love ❤️ this place. We just returned from Ireland so the Irish flag and menu items were a warm welcome. The bakery items are at a whole other level-best croissant and Irish soda bread ever. We are going back for the Guinness stew on a chillier day!

Had a delicious brunch here yesterday. As an English girl in San Diego, the ribena mimosa and full Irish breakfast almost bought tears to my eyes (in a good way). After brunch (the asparagus and goat cheese quiche was divine), we went inside to browse, and I spotted chocolate bars from home! A wonderful experience was had by all. I shall be back very soon :)

We were there yesterday and ordered a cake for my moms birthday and ordered breakfast. Ray- the cake orderer- had asked every question and showed pics of detail for the cake! He was an absolute riot and great at what he does. We brought my pug as well and the chef came over and gave lots of pug love. Maeve was so sweet and kind. And she loves pugs . Food was excellent!! Will be back sooner than later. Thanks!

My wife and I had brunch here and it was great! I'm Vegan so they were able to make me a Vegan Café Mocha and I had their Veg Works Sandwich minus the Dill Aioli and Goat Cheese on Sourdough, with a side salad. Ingredients were fresh. My wife had the Lemon Curd Pancakes with Orange Cardamom Syrup and seasonal berries.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! My husband had the Guinness Shepherds Pie, the beef was sooo flavorful. I had the Veggie Eggs Benedict, Delish! The portions were plentiful. The bakery items are beautiful and delicious as well. A great atmosphere and fun and friendly staff. Next trip into San Diego we are going back!

I’ve been here twice now and love it! Both times I’ve gotten eggs Benedict, once with smoked salmon and the other with lobster. I highly recommend both of these dishes. You can either have them with potatoes or salad, I’ve ordered with the potatoes and they’ve been great! In my latest visit I ordered the cinnamon roll latte which was very tasty! Not as strong in coffee, but I’m pretty picky and don’t expect sweeter lattes to be as strong. Both times I’ve been on a Sunday, about a 30 minute wait for 2 people with a request to be inside (avoid people’s dogs). The waitress was nice, how speedy the service is definitely depends on how busy the restaurant is, as you’d expect. Sitting inside both times, it’s been pretty hot. They keep the door open so it doesn’t really give the a/c a chance to keep things cool. The setting is very cute inside and the bakery items look delicious, though I have yet to try!

Amazing service! Went for brunch on a Thursday morning at 10am with 5 girls and had no wait! The blueberry love pancakes were unreal. The Lobster Benedict had lots of chunks of real lobster and the Southern Love’s shrimp tasted so fresh! We also had dirty chai lattes with oat/almond milk that were 10/10. Already want to go back!

Very Instagram-able place: cutesy with lots of flowers on the walls. The wait can be very long for a brunch weekend (we were quoted 50 minutes but it only took like 20 minutes to get seated). Service was very slow and it took about 30-45 minutes to be served. Parking might be difficult. Prices are not bad (see menu pictures), and the portions are pretty good. The blueberry lemon pancakes were the best pancakes I've ever had! Highly recommend. Fluffy, slightly sweet but not too much, and lots of flavors. The crab cake Benedict was too salty -- I would not order again. Overall, I would be down to come here again if the wait were not so long.

The food here is absolutely amazing! There service was great, and fast. The outdoor seating was comfortable and shady. The coffee was good, and the brad pudding French toast was to die for! The roasted potatoes were great as well. The one thing about Sugar and Scribe, is that it’s quite expensive. But I guess that’s to be expected in La Jolla.

Absolutely love the atmosphere, it’s such a vibe. Loved the indoor tables with the cute seats, rose gold cups and gold silverware. We enjoyed this place so much we came back a 2nd time on our vacation. The 1st visit was great. My Lox plate was amazing and well worth it. My husband really enjoyed his Lox Benedict with the Sriracha Hollandaise Sauce. Service was friendly. However, our 2nd visit was less enjoyable. Our server seemed very unfriendly and annoyed by us. My husband said it was in my head so he decided to try some small talk and it was just so bleak, and confirmed my suspicions. He enjoyed his Lemon Ricotta Pancakes but my food was very salty, and I love salt. I forgot what it was called but it was a chicken, mushroom, and potato bake. If we lived in the area would would definitely frequent this place, regardless of the unfriendly server. Wouldn’t let her kill the vibe.

Visiting the area and found this place. The server was very friendly and was able to recommend a few dishes. Didn't have any wait time on a Wednesday morning for a party of 1. Had the crab benedict and the honey vanilla latte. Cost per person can vary based on what you order.

We hired sugar and scribe for our wedding and we were so happy we did! They were easy to work with and the results were incredible - all the desserts looked and tasted amazing. We were also thrilled to hire a local La Jolla vendor. Thank you for everything!

Sugar and scribe is a place where you have to wait a little extra, but the food is worth it. I’ve had the blueberry pancakes, scotch egg, and salmon Benedict and all were phenomenal. I was with someone when they got a speciality hot chocolate, and it’s perfect for celebrating something, it’s so cute and fun! The staff was great even tho it was super busy. Be patient as a guest because they really are working so hard during the rushes. Keep up the good work.

Love this spot! If you're willing to wait for a table (on Fridays - Sundays), it's a leisurely and decadent meal for sure. Food is always good, consistency is key. If you don't like waiting, stop into the bakery for a tasty treat to go! I had the lox Benedict, so good with capers. The lemon curd pancakes are a must try!

After waiting in line for half an hour at this popular brunch spot, I can confidently say that the experience was absolutely worth it! The coffee selection was delightfully creative. The Bluemoon Latte was a visual masterpiece, resembling a starry night sky. The Strawberry Cloud was equally impressive; not overly sweet, yet bursting with flavor. The food was perfection. We tried the Lobster Benedict, which was fresh and succulent. The Blueberry Pancakes were wonderfully fluffy, and the accompanying jam was exceptional. A special Irish dish recommended by the staff stole the show—crispy bread and flavorful sausage. Everyone was friendly, though the only minor downside was that the place seemed quite crowded. As a result, service occasionally got a bit overwhelmed. After placing our order, we had to wait almost an hour for our food to arrive.
