I took my husband and parents to the high tea at the La Valencia/Mediterranean Room for their 49th wedding anniversary on Friday. We had such a great, relaxing afternoon. The food was amazing, something about a holiday tea is extra special. The sandwiches were tasty, the cucumber mint was surprisingly light and refreshing and my mom loved the chicken salad. The cranberry orange scones were light and paired perfectly with the Devonshire cream and jam. We had four teas to choose from (green or black) all complimented the sweets and savories quite well. I must say though my favorite tier was the sweets tier. The egg nog cream puffs were light and airy and the perfect hint of egg nog. There were also mini gingerbread cupcakes, cardamom butter spritz cookies , and the amazing chocolate mint macaroons. We also enjoyed bubbly with our tea.
The staff was so wonderful, everyone was so nice and very attentive. Mario was great and was always checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Michelle was awesome too (not our table but always super nice as well) and Ryan came by and chatted and asked us how everything was an see we talked about the teas and other things. Everyone was so wonderful. We also appreciated that he mentioned gratuity was included which isn't always told at other teas we've been to. Everything from the view, the food and the staff at the Mediterranean were simply perfect and amazing. Plus a portion of proceeds from the tea are donated to local Rady Children's Hospital. High tea at the La Valencia/Mediterranean Room is $95/pp and is a must whether you are in the area or traveling from out of town.
We walked by this historical hotel and impulsively went in. I'm so glad we did because everything was exceptional from the service to the food. We were checked on often and asked how our time there could be better. There were others sitting near by who wanted to customize drinks, food etc. I honestly felt horrible for the waitstaff and am not sure if they often get entitled customers but they were as professional as professional could gets.
The hummus $17 was outstanding and they offered extra warm nann. Veggie tacos $20 were good and interesting but i could have been just satisfied with the hummus alone. My friend had the turkey sandwich $19 and enjoyed it as well.
If you're in the area, you should stop by even if it's just for a drink.
Magical Christmas Day Brunch! Choosing a place to dine on Christmas Day was a really big deal this year as we were visiting our daughter and had our 2 other kids with us and wanted to have a great experience. I felt
like the place was special from the moment we walked from the sidewalk into the hotel. There was live music and the sky was so blue you could see it shine through from the windows that overlooked the ocean. We were seated in the dining room when you first walk in on the left in front of a beautiful fireplace and even more beautiful picture windows framing up an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. We started with the Cinnamon Roll which I had very high expectations for as it is pretty hard to make a bad cinnamon roll but was frankly disappointed in taste, texture and size (for the money). Around the table we had Chorizo Benedict, Steak & Eggs, Gem Salad and Crab Cake Sandwich. All were excellent and so was the coffee. The drink was beautiful but on the strong side. We were not rushed at all and service was excellent. We finished the meal with Pot De Creme which was AMAZING! Would surely eat here again.
I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday brunch on the terrace of La Valencia hotel and it was well worth the money.
Coming up to the gorgeous pink hotel, we parked in the public parking just nearby. We sauntered into the beautifully appointed Spanish style foyer and passing by the restaurant entrance towards the lounge we greeted the lovely hostess. We had reserved prior to arriving and were given the option to eat indoors or outdoors, and we chose the latter. The view is lovely, and the heaters do well against the brisk sea winds.
I had a Pink Lady— that is, a rose gin cocktail which was exceptionally good, decorated with a single fresh red rose pedal— accompanied by a traditional American spread... eggs, ham, breakfast potatoes, and some greens. I was given a little Happy Birthday card as well which was a nice touch. It is easily the best breakfast I have had, specifically the potatoes which were seasoned very well.
After our meal we took the sun and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. I will certainly be coming again whenever I come through La Jolla again. And hopefully, with a gentleman suitor... Madame D.
Little gem discovered last night. We enjoyed sharing several appetizer and the chicken! I cannot recommend the octopus enough! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Burrata was fresh!
I wasn't intrigued by the olive oil cake and it was a good choice, especially if you look for a dessert that isn't too sweet.
Few tables have a nice view on the ocean :)
We had an absolutely incredible experience our first time at the Mediterranean Room! We were seated on the patio, beautiful views of the ocean, loved being able to hear the live music from the inside, our service (Ryan) was incredible, despite what some of the reviews have said: the food was absolutely amazing! We asked if we could do Limoncello and Lemon Sorbet for dessert and they were accommodating. We had a lot of specific requests and our incredible server, Ryan, never hesitated to say he would do his best... and he always pulled through! We will surely be back. This place instantly became a favorite!!
This place has a fairly limited menu but they do make an effort to have some flare, and fun. We ordered a few items and overall pertains were reasonable, flavors were great, and they had some nice creative cocktails. Not to mention the views aren’t bad!
Incredible location for brunch. Really enjoyed it.
We had the crab cakes and they were delicious! We had a great time relaxing in the hotel lobby lounge listening to the pianist play amazing music while watching the sunset! Love the ambiance there so much we went back the next evening to do it again!
The food is very tasty and the service is great
There is no exaggeration with this comment: this was the best omelette I’ve ever had in my life. We came here for the view and the Bloody Marys, but we’re blown away by the food. I got the omelette with bacon, broccoli, and cheddar and my cousin had the hash. Both were out of this world. The Bloody Mary is also excellent!
The food is delicious, and the view is stunning! All the plates have an extra touch of professional polish, with good quality ingredients. We love this place and the wonderful ambiance.
Met up with old friends for breakfast, cappuccinos and mimosas. We had a wonderful time. Service was great. And food was wonderful.
Really great experience, the food and the service was awesome.
It has a beautiful view to the see.
Try the waffles and the Benedict eggs.
